“ARE ONE HUNDRED walking sticks enough to be distributed? Or should it be two hundred?” Cameron asked Love casually as they shopped for equipment for students of Resources for the Blind. Love was shocked. “One hundred? Two hundred? That’s too much already.” “Nah. That’s still not enough, I think. Bham and Sister Mel said there were other more people who didn't have things they could use. Walking sticks helped them a lot. I also want to buy some Braille books. Your kids seem to enjoy reading stories.” She clung to his arm. “Thank you very much. You’re doing a big thing for them. All the things you helped them with will not be wasted.” "Because you don’t want me to buy you anything you can use,” he said with a frown. He was frustrated because he wanted her life to be comfortable but she didn't seem like she needed it. Of all the women he met, Love was the only one who never asks for anything. She seemed to be happy with what she had. And she was very independent. She would have computed everything he spent and given to her if given a chance. While he wanted to give her everything. “What will I do with things you wanted to buy for me? Those were not necessities, just a luxury. You used to be stingy and now you just don’t care about spending.” He was a little taken aback. It was as if he had been kicked in the chest every time she mentioned anything about Mitos. He often felt like he was a big reject. That he could not stand up with this pretense. He didn’t know what Mitos was like when he and Love were still together. And he couldn’t help being Cameron. That must be the reason why he was being paranoid sometimes. He felt like Love was not really blind. As if she could see right through him. Or maybe that’s just the way it was when you were lying because pretending to be someone else was not his expertise. He wanted Love to know the truth as well, but he didn’t want to hurt her. According to Shei, Mitos’ condition was not improving. Cameron still hoped Mitos would get better and recover. And while waiting for that day, he would continue to pretend to be Mitos as long as necessary. “Eron! Oh, gosh! Eron!” He turned to the woman who had called him. "Janice?" He was surprised and couldn’t react when she hugged and kissed him on the lips. He pulled her away from him before the kiss lingered. “Eron, are you okay? I heard about the accident,” Janice almost cried and kissed him on the cheek. "I felt awful." “I am safe, Janice. No need to worry about anything.” She was his ex-girlfriend. Their relationship was on and off for several years. Of all the girlfriends he had, Janice was the closest to his mother. And whenever they met, she still acted as if she owned him. Just like today. She just kissed her in front of all these people. He was just really thankful that Love couldn’t see anything. It would have been hard to explain anything to her, especially since there was also a woman involved when the two broke up before. Janice touched his cheeks and stared at him. “You are not blind, are you? Is the accident that horrible? Did something happen to your eyesight?” “No. I am okay. You have nothing to worry about. I only have scratches and a few wounds. They are all healed now.” Janice’s face wrinkled. “Then what are you doing here?” Janice looked around the store. Her face furrowed even more when she saw some blind people singing in one part of the shop. He touched Love's shoulder. "Love, I want you to meet someone." He gently turned Love to face Janice. “Janice, this is my friend, Lovellia Andrada. Love, this is Janice Barredo.” "We are more than good friends," Janice said with a raised eyebrow, folding her arms over her chest. She looked at Love from head to toe. Love held out her hand with a smile. "Nice meeting you!" Janice stared at Love's face. "Are you blind?" Love nodded. "Yes." “I went with her to buy supplies for the School for the Blind. She’s going to be a teacher there,” he said with pride in his voice. There was a look of disgust on Janice's face as she looked at Love. She backed away and didn't even pay attention to Love's still outstretched hand. "Eron, I must be going," she said and gave him a quick kiss on his cheek. “I’ll just visit you some other time. When there’s no one to disturb us. Bye!” He didn’t like it a bit. Janice was treating Love like she had some contagious disease. He was hurt and embarrassed for Love. She shouldn’t be treated that way. She’s a good person. It was not Love’s fault or anyone with a disability on what happened to them. They should be treated with respect. He grabbed Love's outstretched hand. “Janice is in a hurry. She just really came by because he saw me. I apologize for her.” She just shrugged. "It's okay. I understand.” But there seemed to be something else in her words. As if she knew Janice didn't like her. Love was very perceptive. Like other blind people, their lack of eyesight strengthens their sense of feeling, hearing, and other senses. She might not say anything, but he knew she was hurt. And he wished he knew how to make her feel better. "Have you chosen a book for the kids yet?" he asked to change their topic. "Maybe it would be nice if they also had an electronic book with audio." "Janice is your ex-girlfriend, isn’t she?” Love asked with a sad voice.
