Chapter 43 Mitos saved you

She gave out a sad smile as she held her father’s hand. “I had to do it so that Epong would not force me to work at their club. But they were forced to take me later on because I couldn’t pay the exact money they were expecting. It's a good thing Eron saved me in time.”
"Mitos. Mitos saved you,” he corrected. “I'm so sorry, my child. I never wanted to leave you. I just ran out of luck. Those who were lending me money don't want to lend me anymore because I don’t have a job.
Only Pareng Boy gave me a chance, that one friend whom I had never seen in a long time. I just wanted to forget what happened to your mother. I just wanted to have fun. I didn't know it would end like this. That we will be buried in debt.”
“It was a good thing that Eron was there and redeemed me. We owe him a lot, Dad. I’m feeling embarrassed already. He even gave us a place to stay.”
“Mitos!” he corrected her again. “What is he really? I'm getting confused already.”
"People call him Eron now," she said. "But you can call him whatever name you prefer, he told me."
Her father scratched his head. “I’ll just call him Mitos then. I actually thought he was a different person now because his looks changed a lot. Or maybe my eyes are just blurry because I don’t have my glasses on. I accidentally broke it a few weeks ago.”
So, her father had no idea that Mitos and Eron were two different persons. Good then. Things might get complicated if her father finds out the truth. It would take a longer explanation. When that happens, her father might accidentally spill something that she could actually see. It would be a bigger mess. She would have a hard time explaining it to Eron.
“Let's just be thankful that there is someone like him who helped us. He also treated me well. He’s been good to me.”
“I can see that. That’s why I trust him. He said he had an accident in another country. Maybe that’s why he couldn’t remember some things when we had a conversation.”
So that was Eron’s alibis when he had questions that he couldn’t answer. “He’s okay now. Were you doing alright in Guimaras, Dad?”
"Of course. I have a good job,” her father announced proudly. “But I still cannot take you with me just yet, Love. I need more time. The place we stayed there was just too small for us. But once the hut I was building is completed, you can finally come to live with me. I will ask Mitos to let you stay here for a while.”
“I hope you finish your house soon, Dad. I don't want to disturb Mitos anymore.”
“Maybe it's better if you marry him, Love. That boy seems to love you very much.”
She forced a smile. "No. We're just friends now. Besides, he only likes beautiful girls as his girlfriends.”
"You're beautiful too, you know."
"He also believes that I was blind."
"Tell him the truth. That you are not blind. Why did you have to keep pretending to be him anyway? You should have told him the truth.”
She lowered her head. “Because I don't want to get hurt anymore, Dad. He already left me before even though he said he loved me. Now no man is brave enough to say they love me because no one can fall in love with a blind person like me. Not even Mitos himself.”
Not even Eron.
"What if he really loves you even though you're blind?"
"Nah, that will never happen, Dad." She didn't want to expect Eron to love her. Like her, he would not pretend to be Mitos forever. There was no place for someone like her in Eron’s real world. Only beautiful and wealthy women were suitable for him. "Let’s not push it, Dad."
“Think about it, Love. We would hit the jackpot if you ended up with him. We no longer have to pay our debt to him.”
"Dad!"
"Kidding. I’m just kidding. Of course, we’ll pay for everything we owe him. Relax.”
LOVE LOOKED UP at the sky as she sat on the bench. It was almost midnight and the whole house was quiet now. For the first time, she was able to appreciate her surroundings without worries. She found her father again. They have nothing to fear about the people who would mess up their lives and their relationship as father and daughter was better now.
She could smile easily now that she was able to get almost everything she could ask in life. All of these seemed impossible, but it did happen.
She held out both hands. She would tire herself watching the stars tonight.
"It's late. Why are you here alone?”
Her hands froze in the air. She didn't know whether to turn to him or lower her hands. “Uh…” She slowly put down her hands. "Eron, I…"
He sat beside her. “Yeah! I know you can memorize a place as long as no one changes the place. And I'm not worried. You are not at the pool floating alone.”
"That won't happen again."
