Chapter 52 Even when Mitos is back

CAMERON FINALLY LOOKED UP from his laptop. At first, she thought there was a fire in his eyes that could easily burn her. But in an instant, his gaze became cold as ice.
“Miss Andrada, do we have a business to discuss? I wish you had set an appointment first. As you can see, I am busy.”
“I won't bother you too much. Ten minutes is enough for what I have to say.”
He leaned back in the swivel chair and folded his hands in front of him. “Take a seat. I can give you five minutes. Do you want coffee… ”
"No need. Thank you. I just want to know the arrangement for the payment of what my father owes you.”
“Is that all you’re worried about? Why? Afraid I might sue?” He grinned and waved his hand. “Forget it. I don’t need your money."
“But it’s still our debt. I have no plans of running away from my responsibilities, that’s why I want to know the terms of how I may be able to pay you.”
“Throw away the money, give it to the poor, donate to children with disabilities or go on a tour abroad.
Do whatever you want with that money. Just don't ever give it back to me.”
“Why are you making it look like the money I’ll give you was so dirty that you don’t want anything to do with it? I worked hard to earn that money,” Lovellia said with her head bowed down.
“Why are you still trying to meet me? I already took away any responsibilities you have on me. And you’d do me a great favor if you’d leave. I know you still have a lot of things to do with Mitos.”
“Mitos is…” She took a deep breath. She doesn’t love Mitos anymore. She only sees him as a friend now. It was Cameron that she loves now. He’s the only one in her heart. “No matter what I did wrong, I just want you to know that I am not a bad person. I have no intention of fooling you, Eron. All I knew was that I needed to protect myself.”
Cameron stood up and walked over to her. “Who will you protect yourself against? Me? I've shown you nothing but goodness, and you still think I would do something to harm you?”
“I'm not saying you're a bad person. But with all the things that have happened to me, how can I just trust someone easily? I pretended to be blind to protect myself from the people the father owed to. Then you pretended to be Mitos. You did help me but I didn’t know your real intentions. I thought what if you were just playing around with me.”
“Have I ever shown you anything bad? You know I'm not a bad person. But you still didn’t tell me the truth.”
She lowered her head. “Because I don't want to fall in love with you. While I’m blind, I know you won’t be interested in me. I once loved Mitos but he forgot about me. I don't want another Mitos to mess up my life.”
"And you must have had a great time laughing when I told you that I’m in love with you." He laughed out loud and grabbed her shoulder, shaking her. “Well? Are you happy now that you finally fooled a man like me?”
"I'm not fooling around with you!" She averted her eyes from him when she felt like she was about to cry.
“Believe it or not, I do love you. Do you think it was that easy for me to accept that I love you? That's why I just want to get away from you. But you’re always preventing me, wanting me to stay with you. So when you told me you loved me, I thought maybe this was my chance to be happy. Don't I have the right to be happy?”
"But you still didn’t tell me that you’re not blind."
"I would have told you if only you had told me why you’re pretending to be Mitos,” she said carefully.
“It’s not that easy to confess the truth sometimes, is it? I'm sure even you were afraid to tell me the truth.”
“Love…” He raised his hand. She closed her eyes. She thought he would hurt her. Instead, he caressed her cheek. It was so gentle it made her want to cry. "Do you love me even though you know I'm not Mitos?" its question mixed with pleading.
She nodded. “I know you are not Mitos. You did a lot of things that Mitos would never do for me. And I appreciated all of that. You were trying to be Mitos but the real you always comes out. I just realized that I have already fallen in love with you.”
He brought his face close to hers until their lips were almost touching. "And you still love me even when Mitos is already back?"
She swallowed a lump that seemed to be blocking her throat while their breaths mingled as one. She wanted to caress Cameron's face. She missed him so much. She just wanted to cry and kiss him. She just wanted to melt away all the lies between them. She wanted him to love her once again.
“My feelings won't ever change even when Mitos is already here. You're still the one I love."
She was startled when his appearance became grim and pushed her away. “You don't know who the real me is, Love. How can you love me? Because you know I’m wealthy?”
She was offended by his words. “I have never looked at someone's wealth. If I was just after money, I would have gone with the people my father owed money to. They are also rich. But I'm not that kind of woman. I like you because I know you are a good person. Yaya Rosa told me everything about you.”
He was surprised. "Yaya Rosa knows that you know that I'm not the real Mitos?"
She nodded. “She also knew that I could see. If she never told you, she probably has her reasons. Please don't be mad at her. Yaya Rosa loves you.”
He did not say anything for a long time, as if still thinking what he would need to do. Whether to believe her or not. “You can go back to Mitos. I am sure he is waiting for you.”
"I'm leaving," she whispered.
This might be the last time that they'll meet. Cameron would eventually forget about her too. There were a lot of beautiful women around him like Janice Barredo. While she, on the other hand, has no one else but Cameron in her heart.
If only it was that easy for her to forget about him as well.
