Chapter 49 Moment of Truth

“SEEMS LIKE YOU didn’t just get serious with Miss Love, Sir. Even your new business, you were taking it seriously. A call center that would employ blind people? That was really nice, Sir,” Marvin said after their meeting.
“I have learned that most of them were easy to teach about computers. And they also have language training. So why not help them out?”
His knowledge grew about the people who have no eyesight since he got involved with Love. He used to be too focused on his goal to be successful. Now he had more consideration for his employees.
He also wanted to give opportunities to people who have disabilities. He now believes that a person can be productive as long as he has a dream and determination. Sometimes these people even excel more than those who don’t have any disabilities.
"I'm sure your Dad will be happy," said Marvin, who supported his project. "When will you introduce Miss Love to your parents?"
"Once I told Love about this project, I’ll talk to her about meeting my parents. Do you think she will get mad?” he asked with worry. He had already confessed that he loves her but he lost the courage to tell her about this.
What if she would stop loving him once she found out that he was not Mitos?
“Of course she would get angry. You did lie to her, Sir” Marvin answered in a formal voice.
“Even when I have no ill-intention?”
"She'll understand that, Sir."
He was also praying for that. That Love would understand him. And hopefully, she would put more into consideration the fact that he only wanted to protect her.
His cellphone rang as he was on his way back to his office. "Hello!"
“Kuya! Kuya Cameron!”
His forehead furrowed when he heard his cousin’s crying and trembling voice. “Shei, what’s wrong? What happened to Mitos?”
“He’s already in the Philippines to meet Love. Someone has told him where Love is.”
He was confused. "What do you mean? Isn’t he still in a coma? You just told me yesterday. How can he come here so quickly to find Love? He’s awake now? How did he get the doctor's clearance to leave the hospital and travel immediately?”
"H-he’s been fine for a long time."
“What? And you didn't tell me? What nonsense is this, Shei?” he exclaimed in a high tone.
“Kuya, I don't have time to explain. But you have to find Love before Mitos meets her. Hide her. They just can't meet.”
"You are crazy!" he muttered. He suddenly had a headache because of what he just learned. He tapped Marvin on the shoulder.
“Don't leave for the office. Go to the School for the Blind. I need to talk to Love.”
LOVE HAD A beautiful smile on her face after talking to Eron on the phone.
"He's coming here," she said excitedly to her companion. Bham was having coffee in the school cafeteria.
"He said he had something important to tell me.”
“Was he going to give you more laptops? You’re really lucky to have a boyfriend like him.” Bham stroked her forehead. "Good thing you didn’t pursue your plan on leaving him.”
“I really do love him. But if he didn't love me, of course, I don’t have any choice but to leave him. Anyway, it was a good thing he agreed that Kulas and I would move to an apartment near here. And if I didn’t act like I’m about to throw a tantrum, he would pay for everything.”
Eron was pampering her like a baby. One day, she would want to have a chance to be able to take care of him in return.
"And when will you tell him the truth about your real condition? That you’re not really blind?”
She took a deep breath. She still didn’t know how to Eron that she could actually see.
"I don’t know." She grasped her friend’s hand. "Ate Bham, what should I do?"
“Get on a yacht again, send yourselves in the middle of the ocean, tell him that if he gets angry at you, you will jump into the sea and disappear forever.”
She gave her a sharp look. "I would look like a crazy person if I did that, Ate Bham.”
"Then tell him the truth later when you meet him. I’m pretty sure he will understand. You just wanted to protect yourself anyway, that’s why you had to lie like that.”
She nodded. She’s willing to understand whatever his reaction’s gonna be, just like she was willing to understand whatever his reason for pretending to be Mitos.
A few minutes later, Eron came into the cafeteria and kissed Love on her cheek. “Hi! Can we go out for a moment? ”
"How sweet! Romantic brunch,” Bham said. “Love still has a class but don’t worry, I’ll sit in for her in assisting the teacher in her class.”
“Thanks, Bham. I owe you one.”
“It’s nothing. Just take care of my friend.”
"I will."
"Is there a problem, Eron?” Love asked as they headed to the car park. "You said you had a meeting today, didn’t you?”
His grip on her hand tightened. “What I have to say is important. I will understand if you get angry afterward, but I hope would also understand why I did what I did. Because it’s all for your sake.”
She kept her silence. She already knew what he was going to tell her but she was still nervous. Was there something else she would know about? Would she finally be able to learn what happened to Mitos?
She was about to get into Eron's car when she heard someone calling her name. "Love! Love, wait!”
When she turned around, she saw a familiar man getting out of a car. The real Mitos.
“Love, get inside the car. I’m just gonna talk to someone first,” Eron said in a firm voice.
What was this? Wouldn’t he let her talk to Mitos?”
"You and your cousin can’t hide Love from me anymore," Mitos declared, his fists clenched.
Love knew Mitos well. When he’s furious, he gets involved in a fight. And he would never back down. He would hurt anyone who gets in his way.
She acted quickly. She immediately ran towards Eron and hugged him before Mitos could land a punch on him.
"Mitos, don't hurt him," she said, closing her eyes tightly. She also tightened her grip on Eron, hoping she’s not too late. She was willing to catch Mitos' fist for Eron.
"Love," Eron whispered her name softly. “What…You knew who Mitos is?”
She lifted her eyes to him. She nodded slowly. He stared into her eyes as if it was the first time he had seen her eyes. There was a trace of shock on his face.
“You can see? You’re not blind?”
She turned away from him and let him go. He knew the truth now. There was nothing else to hide.
"Yes. I can see," she admitted.
Anger flashed across his face. “All this time, you were making a fool of me. You’ve known all along that I wasn’t the real Mitos.”
“Weren’t you doing the same thing? You were pretending to be Mitos,” she replied.
His lips pressed tightly together and his fists clenched. “But I did it to protect you. Because I don’t want you to get hurt if you learned that Mitos was in a coma. While you had fun pretending to be a helpless blind woman while making me fall for you.”
She bit her lower lip. His words felt like a whip hitting her in the most painful way. "I…It wasn’t my intention…Eron, please listen to me."
She moved towards Eron but Mitos grabbed her arm to prevent her. “He cheated on you. Him and his cousin.
They intentionally did it so we wouldn’t meet,” he said firmly.
"That's not true!" Eron protested, but he just shook his head in the end. “It doesn’t matter. She’s all yours now, Mitos. I have paid my gratitude to you for saving me. Miss Andrada, good riddance!”
He got in his car and ordered Marvin to drive away immediately.
“Eron, wait! I will explain!”
But it was too late. Eron had left him and she was sure she had reaped all his anger.
