Where is her uncle? “What are you doing here?” He asked her. “Douglas, don't be rude to me.” She cautioned looking behind him. “You do know my name.” He said, touching her cheek. “Do not flirt with me.” She said making him and his girlfriend laugh. “Who do you think is flirting with you?” Douglas asked. “Your cousin?” She looked up at him and sighed. “You should get a boyfriend rather than date your uncle,” Douglas said, moving her aside. “What?” Doula asked, looking at Douglas, who walked away with his girlfriend. “He is crazy, do not worry about him.” Doula heard her uncle say and turned. “Good day, uncle.” She said. “Can you explain what just happened?” Ignoring her question, her uncle sat down on one of his couches. “You do love me?” She asked and her uncle smiled. “I do not.” He said. “Kindly have your sit and let's discuss before you speak to your parents.” Doula nodded, obeying her uncle, and sat down. “Alright, I am all ears.” She said, but her uncle looked at the maid. “Get us some wine.” He said to the maid who nodded. “I do not drink alcoholic wine,” Doula said and her uncle smiled. “We only have fruit wine in here.” He said. “I do not drink alcoholic wine here.” Doula nodded knowing fully well that her uncle was a fan of alcoholic wine. Maybe, he doesn't want his son to taste it. The maid brought two cups of wine and Doula thanked her. “I would like us to be done drinking this before I stay explaining things to you.” Her uncle said. Minutes later, Mr. Claus sat upright. “Your parents left a fortune for you before leaving the country.” He began, “I was told to only give it to you whenever you get a job.” Doula nodded looking at her uncle. She knew her dad trusted him so much like his own brother, but he was her mother's older brother. “Alright Uncle.” She said. “Your cousin got to see it in the evening yesterday and had been trying to own it.” Her uncle said. “Reason he told me that I am dating you,” Doula said and he nodded. “I told him to get off it as it is yours.” He said. Doula closed her eyes as she was grateful for who her uncle was. “There is a reason for this morning's call.” He said, and she looked at him. “What reason?” She asked. “I need to transfer my property to someone else I will be dead.” He said. “Why?” She asked. “Douglas wants it.” Mr. Claus said. “It's his right to own it,” Doula said and he shook his head. “You were once a baby and no more are you.” He said. Thinking about this, Doula could see the reason her uncle would want to give his property out. But is he sure the person he gives is going to take care of it? Slapping her naive brain, Doula woke up to the realization that her uncle chose her because he trusted her. “Uncle, if you are scared that he might kill you to gain the property, I am more scared.” She said, and her uncle nodded. “I have noticed that I was stupid to think of handing it over to you.” He said. “Douglas may attack from anywhere.” “Thank you for understanding, uncle,” Doula said then a thought appeared in her mind. “Why don't you escape the country along with your properties and sell the house to the military.” She suggested. This suggestion of hers made her uncle smile. “Military? You say military?” He asked laughing. “Yes, is there anything too difficult about that?” She asked. “Do you have a crime history?” “I do not.” He replied. “It could have been a good thing to do, but they aren't to be trusted.” Doula nodded, seeing through her uncle's words. “The officers really aren't to be trusted.” She said. “They surely will ask you where you are relocating to and…" “Douglas may know through that means.” Her uncle said. Doula looked at her uncle with a sad face. “When did all this begin?” She asked. “Last week.” He said. “I never knew my son had a girlfriend until I heard through their phone call that he should acquire all his father's properties, in which he promised to get in a month.” Doula's mouth fell open. “Really, she is going to squander it.” She said. “I will look for some connections at my workplace.” Mr. Claus frowned at this. “You do not have to.” He said. “You just began walking there.” “And my package?” She asked fidgeting. “He already has his eyes on it.” Her uncle smiled putting his hand across her shoulder. “Alright, you may inform anyone about your property, but not mine.” Her uncle said. This got Doula curious. “How can you tell me not to tell anyone about yours?” She asked, but he kept quiet. Doula could sense something wrong but decided to change the topic. “How have you been coping without your wife?” She asked. Mr. Claus smiled. He knew everyone thought his drinking habit would affect his physical life. He has chosen to stay away from every woman after his wife died. He could have thought of having one in the later years, but now he had no thought of it as his only son had decided to kill him. “How are you sure he wants to kill you, uncle?” Doula asked. “I overheard him speaking to his friends about it.” He said. “Why didn't you inform me?” She asked, and all her uncle could do was to smile. “I can't let you in.” He said. Doula smiled, remembering that she had thought about changing the topic of discussion. “Uncle, I would like to ask you a peculiar question.” She said. “What question is it?” Her uncle asked. “And why is it peculiar?” “It's about Douglas.” She said. “What about him?” He asked. Before she could reply, Douglas entered the house.
