It was almost the new year... About two hours to it.
Brother and I were both sitting at the balcony half hugging as we stared at the night sky.
It was just so beautiful.. more than anything I have ever seen.
The weather was just perfect and the silence was something I love.
The streets were empty and almost all the lights were out, only the street light was let on.
It was very beautiful indeed.
" What do you wish for the new year, Sis? " I heard Brother's voice.
Without even looking up, I replied to him. " Well, I just want to become the best version of myself and be happy. "
" Um... You do know that happiness is a mind set, meaning : We can always choose to be Happy no matter the situation. "
" Really? " I was indeed surprised by his words.
Happiness mindset, how?
" As you know, Happiness is also an emotion. Just like sadness. So yeah, we can choose to make ourselves happy and content by making the right decisions and staying on the right track. " He replied.
" I see... "
" So happiness shouldn't be a dream... It should be a habit instead. " He said and I nodded.
" And about becoming the best version of yourself. " He continued, " You do Know that you can only strive to be the best of yourself and not the best of somebody else, right? "
" Yeah.. "
" In life, we really don't need to compare ourselves with others, Because we are unique! And also, most of the things we envy in others are actually in us and as long as we work hard on our true potential we'll be able to realize this. "
" Oh... What about beauty? " I couldn't help but ask.
He held my hands in his before replying after a chuckle, " True beauty comes from within. Facial beauty is just an addition, the truth is, I don't think it's a good idea to judge people just by how they look but who they really are as a person. "
" But a lot of people do that... " I Muttered under my breath.
" I Know... And that's one of the reasons why the world is like this... " He said, caressing my hair.
" I really wish more people would realize this very important fact. "
" I do too. "
Then we were silent for a minute.
I was alerted by a bright light and before I knew it I Exclaimed, " A shooting star, make a wish! "
" Oh... "
I closed my eyes immediately and made a wish...
Though I was a realistic kind of person, I still can't help but still believe in stuff like that.
" I never knew you also believe in shooting stars and wish making... "
" Well.. even I don't know I believed so much in it. "
" You don't have to worry... It's okay. " He assured me with a smile.
" Really? "
" Uhh yeah. "
" Alright then, if you say so... " I said with a smile.

New Year's Eve has always been a special time for me.
For a lot of reasons I can't really explain.
Perhaps it's because I often feel a lot of expectations for the new year and so I find myself being happy.
I often feel like the year will end with all my unhappiness and sadness and I'll step into the new year with happiness and joy.
Well, that's what I always thought.
But well, oftentimes it often turns out to be the opposite of what I was expecting.
As the new year days turn out to be not so different from the past days.
So it got to a point where I stopped wishing long and hard for the new year.
Perhaps it's because I had become so used to being disappointed that I find it useless to hope.
Yet, at this time, I felt like wishing.
It really feels like this year will turn out to be one of the best ones for me.
I really am unable to understand this feeling.
But suddenly, I began to hope and be expectant.
I guess it's due to all that happened the months before and also due to the new found life I had got.
The one I find myself getting used to.
That being said.
I closed my eyes and prayed.
* Dad in heaven, Please make the new year an amazing one for me and my loved ones. *
* Lord, be with me throughout. Don't leave me. Please don't let your presence depart from me and my loved ones. *
* Dearest creator, Help me to be the best version of myself in the coming year. *
* Dad, lead me in the right path. *
* Dad, Continue to grant us your wisdom and understanding Like you've done in time pasts. *
* All this I pray, in the name of the father, the son and of the holy spirit. Amen. *
I finished my prayers and when I opened my eyes and looked beside me, I was shocked to realize that my brother also had his eyes closed.
Is he also praying? I thought.
Then, he opened his eyes and his gaze met mine.
" You were praying? " I know this might sound like the most stupid question ever but still, I can't help asking.
" I was... " He said before chuckling, " I am a devoted Christian so of course I pray to my heavenly father. "
" Oh... "
" Anyways, your reasoning is justified since many scientists are atheists. " He sighed.
" Yeah, I guess... "
" Um... I have an idea. " He said all of a sudden.
" Which is? " I inquired.
" Since it's new year's Eve. And almost every new year, why don't we practice the act of reflection. Let's reflect on our dreams and goals in life. "
" Oh... That's a good idea. "
" Yeah... So ready? "
" Yep! "
" Let's do this! " He said as we both closed our eyes again and began to reflect.
