Chapter 3

The next day, Doula woke up feeling happy. She was going for a job interview after all, and also her best friend will be arriving.
Her happy expression turned to a cold one remembering what Kailua told her before leaving the last day.
“What does she mean by that?” She inquired, to no one but herself.
“Anyway, I have an interview to do and if it goes well, then I will be employed.” She said with a smile on her face.
She looked at the clock in her room and sighed.
“It's seven a.m.,” She said. “There are two more hours for the interview, so I need to get ready.”
She got off the bed and went to brush her teeth and take her bath.
“Wow, I look beautiful.” She said looking at her image in a mirror as she packed her hair.
She looked at her clock again and smiled.
Done dressing, she walked out and prepared bread and a cup of tea for herself.
Walking out of the house, she smiled looking at the door once again.
“This is what I want, and I must have it.” She said to herself, remembering Kailua telling her to say any word, and it will come to be.
“I will get the job.” She said and left.
Getting to the place she went to the last day, she smiled greeting the receptionist.
“You may have your seat.” The receptionist said, and she sat on the bench with other people who applied for the position.
Minutes later, she was in the interviewer's office and was being interviewed.
“Yes, those are my credentials.” She said.
“You just graduated a year ago.” The man said and she nodded.
“You may take your leave.” He said, and she nodded, walking out of the office.
She entered a vehicle which drove her to a store. She had chosen to get some groceries just to surprise Kailua in the afternoon.
Getting to her house, she was surprised to see a figure in front of her door.
“Isn't that Kailua?” She asked herself. “Didn't she say she would be arriving in the afternoon?”
She was sad that her surprise had been made null.
“It's no surprise if she is here already.” She said, looking at the grocery bag that was with her.
 Nevertheless, she moved towards her.
“I am sorry I came early,” Kailua said. “I know your surprise to me is ruined.”
Doula looked at her shaking her head.
“How do you know of my surprise?” She asked and Kailua smiled.
“You have been my best friend for the past twenty-three years, so I know virtually everything about you,” Kailua said, and she smiled.
“Yes, you will,” She said nodding.  “I should get my keys to open the door.”
She dropped the grocery bag and left to open the door.
Kailua walked in holding the bag then handed it to her when she was in.
“So how was the interview?” She asked Doula who took the vegetables out of the grocery bag.
“It was great, and I know I will be chosen,” Doula replied.
“That's good. The faith.” She said and Doula smiled.
“My comfort is in the proclamation,” Doula said.
 “What proclamation?” Kailua asked.
“The one you told me of.” She replied, and Kailua smiled.
“You are the bravest friend I have ever had in this world,” Kailua said.
“You also are to me,” Doula said.
They shared a hug, and then Kailua moved back.
“I had to go home because I will be leaving in a week and might not come back again,” Kailua said
Hearing this from her friend, Doula cried out.
“You are my only friend on earth.” She cried.
“I know, but you will make friends when you start working,” Kailua said.
“No one can ever be you to me.” She cried.
“Everything is going to be alright,” Kailua said with a sigh, but she couldn't agree with her.
“I still want to see you.” She said.
Kailua took a deep breath knowing that her friend would never give up on her decision.
“Alright.” She said writing down a contact on a sheet of paper. “You may contact me through this.”
Taking up the paper, Doula smiled.
“This is your new number?” She asked.
“It will only work from next week,” Kailua said.
“Alright, I will save it right now,” Doula said.
Kailua got up to her feet and walked, touching the wall.
“Whenever I leave, do not attach my picture to anything on the wall, and make sure you reconcile with your uncle.” She said.
These words hurt Doula to the marrow. Was Kailua leaving her because of her uncle?
“You do not have to leave all because of uncle,” She said. “He is going to accept you soon.”
Kailua turned her friend's cheek, smiling.
“I am not leaving because of him, but because of my job.” She said.
“What? Your job?” Doula asked and she nodded.
“I didn't let you know because I didn't want you sad.” She said.
Doula looked at her and stamped her foot on the floor like a baby.
“Why didn't you let me know so that we can look for a nearer work for us?” She asked.
“I was scared, afraid that they would choose one of us,” Kailua said.
“Then we would have looked for another one for any who wasn't chosen.” She said.
“I never thought of such,” Kailua said, giving a sincere face.
“It's alright,” She said. “Since I can communicate with you.”
“Also, you can invite me on your big day,” Kailua said and she nodded.
 “I surely will.” She said.
“Let's talk about another thing," Kailua said, and she smiled.
“Let me have fun with you for this few days.” She said and Kailua nodded.
“You should meet your uncle after I am gone,” Kailua said.
“I surely will.” She said smiling.
“Do your parents know about this?” She asked Kailua who only smiled.
“Yes, they do,” Kailua said, though she knew that she was lying, but anyway, all that matters is that she got a job.
