“Wake up, you bitch,” Doula said to her friend, Kailua. “Oh Doula, can you be easy with me?” Kailua asked. “No, I can't be.” She said laughing. “Why can't you?” Kailua asked with a smile. “We need to go on a job hunt.” She replied. Kailua got up from the bed and looked at her friend. “We don't need a job. It's going to appear to us just in a twinkle of the eyes.” She said biting the lower part of her lip. “You believe in those make-believe stories,” Doula said but Kailua didn't utter a word. Looking at her friend, she smiled crossing her hand. “I have known you since we were young, and I know you can make any of your wishes come through just as a fairy,” She said. “Please if you can help, help me get a job.” Kailua looked at her friend as she saw the truth in her. She knew it wouldn't be good for her to introduce Doula to her work. She wants her friend to live normally. “Alright.” She said wearing her slippers. “I should get my bath then we will go eat.” “Yes!” Doula said hopping happily. She had always wanted Kailua to agree to the job search, but her friend always gave her flimsy excuses. “Doula, I am ready,” Kailua said walking to her friend who moved a bit. “What? You just walked into the bathroom.” Doula said. “Let's just say, I had a quick bath.” She said, but her friend, who was in shock, shook her head. “Kailua!” Doula held her hand and called. “Do you have some magic off your sleeve?” “No, I do not, and what makes you think I do?” She asked feigning anger. “Nothing,” Doula answered. “Do not worry about it. Let's go eat some food.” She nodded, looking at her friend. “Does she suspect anything?” She asked herself thoughtfully. She walked with Doula to the breakfast table, knowing that her friend would have made a sumptuous meal. “Let's see what we have here.” She said sitting on a chair. She took off the cover which hid the food. The aroma which escaped the plate filled the air making her close her eyes. Doula smiled seeing her friend being dramatic. “Drama queen.” She said smiling. Kailua opened her eyes and looked at her friend with a smile. “You are so good.” She said, and Doula smiled. “Let's dig into the food,” Doula said picking up a plate and spoon. “I am famished.” “I also am famished.” She said. They dished their spoons into the bowl and poured some spoons into their plates. Minutes later, Kailua watched as Doula washed the plate. “Have you heard from your uncle?” She asked. “Yeah. I heard from him two weeks ago, but he would rather not see you,” Doula replied. “They all have the wrong notion of me,” She said. “Well, not everyone. I do not think that bad about you and some other people.” Doula said. “Yes, you are right,” She said. Drying her wet hands, Doula looked at her friend. “I am so happy that you chose to go with me on a job hunt,” She said. “Oh, well, I chose to go with you today and that is all that matters,” Kailua said and she smiled. “Thank you, best friend,” She said smiling. “Let's go out,” Kailua said when she saw that her friend was ready. They held hands and bounced out of the house. While on the street, Kailua mistakenly stepped on a man's leg and was shocked to see that it was Doula's uncle. “Your uncle,” She said pulling her friend's hand to herself. “Uncle!” Doula called looking at her uncle who also looked at her but left minutes later. She closed her eyes and shook her head. She knew her uncle wasn't happy to see her with Kailua, but for what reason should she leave her childhood friend? “Do not worry, he is going to come around soon,” She said to Kailua who smiled. Kailua could only imagine the look that would form in her eyes when she realized who she was. “Let's forget it and keep moving,” She said to Doula who nodded. They kept walking while they discussed the societal norms. “When I get a man, I will be the happiest person on earth,” Doula said and looked at Kailua. “I am not interested in getting a man,” Kailua said noticing her friend. “But, why won't you?” She asked. “I have no interest in them for now,” Kailua replied. “You said, for now, which means you can still be interested,” She said and they both smiled. Looking at a building, Doula read what was on the gate. “They require an accountant,” She said. “Why don't we go in to submit our resume?” “I didn't tell you that I need it,” Kailua said. “Kailua!” She called. “Let's go in,” Kailua said. “You are full of wonders,” She hissed and walked in. Kailua followed her friend in. She waited at the reception as Doula walked in to submit her resume. Doula walked back to join her friend after submitting her resume. “Kailua, is there anything you are keeping away from me?” She asked. “Why do you ask?” Kailua asked. “We chose to go on a job hunt together but you…" She was saying when Kailua cut in. “I am sorry, but I already submitted my resume since last week,” Kailua lied. “But why?” She asked stamping her foot on the floor. “I am sorry,” Kailua said. “There is no problem,” She said thinking of how her friend didn't respond to her all the time she had been pestering her to go for a job hunt with her. “She had already found a job then,” She thought. “May we go back home?” Kailua asked, noticing that her friend didn't say a word after that. “Sure,” She said getting up. “Are you angry with me?” Kailua asked also getting up. “I am not,” She said. “I am only worried.”
