Chapter 1

Natanie was there, sitting outside and facing a narrow silver varender, which exposed her to the vast serenity of her balcony.
Natanie sighed as her hand hovered over her diary. No one would understand how important it was, she thought. If only the world knows what it held in them.
“Hello Natanie.” Fredrick said with his hands well fixed in the pockets of his dark plain trousers and Natanie tried to hide her diary, Frederick’s blue eyes searched her urgently.
“Hi Frederick.” Natanie said with no amusement.
“What are you doing out here? Feeling pressured?” He asked searching for her eyes.
“Not exactly, I'm just scribbling down a few things.” She responded.
His brows nitted in confusion. “What things?”
She quickly waved his concerns off so that he wouldn't pry further. “Nevermind, and what about you, what brings you all the way up here?”
“Just wanted to check up on you,” he said and tilted his head to her direction. “Isn't that a good thing?”
“Oh it is.” She said as he made his way to sit close to her.
“You know I care about you and I'll be there whenever you need me.” He said smiling. Or maybe not, she thought.
She tried to force a smile. “I know that, which is why I never objected to it right from the start.”
“I am glad to hear you say that, glad to know that you trust me.” He blinked back something in his eyes and she giggled softly. She brought her diary up to her chest and held it closer to herself.
“You never let go of that, do you?” Fredrick stared suspiciously at her diary.
“Of course not, it's my diary and it's personal.” She said calmly but didn't fail to emphasize on the word ‘personal’.
“So, you won't let me take a peak at least?” He said.
“No, no I won't. Like I said, it's personal.” She shifted uncomfortably on her seat.
“Right, I get that. It's ‘personal’.” He said as he lowered his head for a moment and then made to look at her.
“You know I love you, right?” He blurted as Natanie almost rolled her eyes at him. Everytime he says that, she knows what comes next.
“You don't have to remind me every time, I perfectly know that you care about me and you also want me to be happy, right?” She asked tight-lipped.
He nodded. “Of course.” He mumbled softly. “And I also want _”
“Oh my God!” She exclaimed with her eyes glued to her wrist watch and then she quickly rose to her feet.
“I'm late for the dance.” She said as she moved past him, trying to get her stuff in place before leaving.
“Allow me to accompany you today.” He said standing up.
For so long, he had proposed going with her but she had declined each and everytime he made a proposal to go with her.
“No Fred, I'll go on my own.” She said hurriedly without looking at him as she slid her diary into her handbag and then spun on her heels to face him. She noticed he had a worried look on his face much like every other time she refused him.
“Oh Fred, don't worry about me I'll be fine.” She blinked at him, trying to actually convince him.
“I know you will but the way you reject my every offer, worries me.” He moved close to her and she sighed. There he goes again.
“No Frederick, I'm just trying to make you understand that you shouldn't be so overprotective of me. I already told you that I'll be fine and I want you to believe that and respect my decision..” She paused and sighed again. “Fred, please understand that I need to do things on my own, I need that freedom and you shouldn't worry too much about me, okay?”
Fredrick looked like he'd been on the same roller coaster again and again and he was obviously tired of it, if not loosing his sanity. He tried so hard to keep himself controlled because she was making him lose his mind and he hates to pretend. But he has to, all these is just to lure her in to make her completely trust him and marry him.
“Natanie, I respect your decision but doing things on your own is not right _ look, everytime you say that to me, it looks to me like you exaggerate things, that you don't make sense. Trust me, you need a lot of help than you think.” Fredrick finished with wide eyes and his adams apple bumped up and down.
Natanie bit her lower lip at his words, she too was exhausted from being on this rollercoaster with him all the time. He practically thinks she's a dimwit.
“Why's that? You think I'm abnormal or something?” She looked into his eyes and he shook his head in denial.
“Of course not, but your decision has me worried that you might get hurt in your unending quest of doing things your own way and you know I care alot about you and don't want that to happen.” Fredrick said with his voice raised a little and trying not to wreck his nerves as he held her face and stared deep into her eyes.
“I don't want that for you my love.” He added softly.
She slapped his hand off of her.
“Look Fredrick, I'm fine. I'm completely sane even though you think I must have lost several nuts up there just because I like to do things by myself, but you know what, I don't blame you.” She took in a sharp breath and continued.
“I don't blame you for trying to always stop me because it's so obvious that you don't love me the way you say you do.” She said and headed for the door but halted and turned to look at him.
Fredrick just stood there like he was transfixed.
“It's not my intent to make you feel like I'm being difficult, but never in my entire life have I been given the chance to do things for myself, and now that I see and have the opportunity, I can't stop myself for you or anyone else for that matter. So if you really love me like you say you do, then you'd understand me.” Natanie said and hurriedly left the room as the door slammed behind her.
