As the day chameleoned to night, Sharon stood out in the vast space gasping at the rushing wind and pleading silently to be a whole lot stable. “Hey.” Natanie called out. “Hey.” Sharon replied with hushed voice. Natanie made to settle beside her as her eyes darted all over the place. “You okay?” Sharon asked. “I was, until a while ago.” Natanie said weakly. “What do you mean?” “Isabelle.” “Isabelle? What about her?” “We talked and…” Natanie trailed off. “And?” “I don't know, she seemed strange.” Natanie mumbled. “I mean, she approached me saying she wants to patch things up but I just don't buy it.” “What if she's trying to fix things truly? I mean she was your best friend, what if she's actually sincere?” “Best friend's look out for each other but she was against me the whole time. I'm not certain she's sincere. I have my doubts.” Natanie said as she exhaled. “But you know I'll always look out for you, right?” Sharon said to her. “ As your friend.” Natanie pulled up a small smile. “You were always a friend even though I figured it out just maybe a little too late.” Natanie blinked back something in her eyes. “Or not.” Sharon muttered as they both chuckled and held each other's hands. *** “Man, let's celebrate! You succeeded in helping out your girl Na.. Na.. what again?” Harnik furrowed his brows. “Natanie.” Dave corrected and shook his head at his friend. And then it was as if the image of her flashed in his mind. “Whatever.” Harnik blurted and immediately handed Dave a glass of wine. “We should definitely celebrate this notch.” “I'm glad that she's happy to find her real parents.” Dave sipped his drink. “At least, I know that I was of help to her.” As Dave gulped the whole content from his glass, he poured more for himself and gulped it. Harnik observed his friend studiously. “You have really proven to be a good friend to her.” “I just wish that I'm more than a friend, I find myself craving her every goddamn time!” Dave almost choked on his drink. He threw a glance at Harnik. “I need her.” His eyes were dark with obvious desire. “Damn Dave, you're really smitten. If only it'd be easy to get her, I mean you have a girlfriend. Did you forget?” Harnik gulped his drink too. Dave shook his head. “A girlfriend that I don't even love? I don't even feel any connection to Isabelle. It's almost like we're a bunch of highschool kids trying to define our feelings but I damn well know who I'm in love with. I love Natanie.” “I know how hard your situation is but you've got to accept that fact Dave. I mean, you accepted her as your girlfriend, didn't you?” Dave nodded. “Damn right I did.” He said airily. “I thought that accepting Isabelle would at least distract me from what I felt for Natanie but it triggered it instead.” There was an intense pounding of his heart against his chest that crippled him. “Everything.” Dave added. “You really do love her.” Harnik blurted as Dave glanced at him as if what his friend said, further confirmed his feelings. “It almost sounds lame coming from you.” Dave said as Harnik chuckled at his friend. Dave smiled and poured himself another glass of wine. “But it doesn't. It must feel really great to love someone that much but deal with reality first.” Harnik said thickly and gulped his drink as he patted Dave's shoulder in support. “Damn reality.” Dave cursed under his breath. *** The sensation was everywhere but nowhere. The evening air was soothing enough as the heavy scent of dandelions protested to be pervasive. This time around, Dave was out there in the space. He looked down casted, neglected, sidelined, drained, and a host of other emotions that he couldn't quite place his hands on. With his hands well thrusted in his pockets, he grimaced at the fields. “You seem diced.” Natanie said behind him and he didn't bother to look back at her. She moved to settle beside him. “Hey.” She mumbled softly and he finally decided to face her. She looked beautiful, he thought. “Hey.” He responded softly. “Are you okay?” She asked him innocently. In the real sense, he wasn't but something nudged him. “Yeah, I'm fine.” She shook her head. “I'm glad you are.” Her mouth was dry. “Uhm, I never really got the chance to say thank you for the other day, for everything.” He looked away from her and lowered his head. “It's nothing…” “It is something.” She cut in. “At least I know that you're more than a perfect spy for me?” She blurted trying to at least make him smile at her. He returned his gaze on her. His eyes were dark and searching hers and in no time, she froze under his hypnotic gaze. “You look sappy.” She blurted out of the blue, her hands were becoming sweaty in her awkward stance in front of him. “I do?” He whispered. She smiled softly. “A little?” Her gaze became intent on him. He talked less and listened more. He just couldn't understand himself anymore. He filled her with more silence than an actual complete statement and Natanie was starting to feel awkwardly stupid. She rubbed her hands against her dress and finally decided to walk away. “I gotta go.” She mumbled and immediately walked away slowly from him. She walked a bit and stopped on her tracks. He just stared after her, still silent. She turned to look at him as their gaze locked. His eyes burned and her heart ached. Then she decided to take a step towards him, and then another, she finally ran into his arms as he held her tightly like after that very moment, she'd disappear and never return. Maybe this time, she was bound to accept him totally into her heart, her world, and to forever be a part of her. His hands circled her waist and maybe he needed her words to keep him stable, her eyes to keep him going and her embrace to ease him from the burden he bore. They held each other tightly like two long lost lovers. “What's with you that keeps calling me back?” She mumbled under her breath. “And what's with you that keeps crippling my resolve?” He said as she came to face him and look him in the eye. Those eyes of his were still dark and could be the death of her. She slowly brought her hand to touch his face and then slowly, they both leaned in towards each other. Then she kissed him first and pulled back a bit, a little uncertain for her actions. Then he wasted no time and pulled her back in for a deep kiss. He kissed her back passionately and their skin glued against each other.
