Chapter 9: New Book Presentation 2.

I was just taken aback throughout the entire presentation and all that, seeing my mom here wasn't something I saw coming. That has been happening much lately though, ever since Lydia came into my professional Life, she has been doing nothing else but wowing me, not in a negative way though, but rather, a positive way, doing stuffs I believe I should do, but never came to mind, obviously thinking about something else like always.
All it took was a total of two hours for everything to be concluded, I snapped a group picture with all the attendants, trying to fit in to there vibes. They're my people, they have something else to do, something important too, but they decided to keep it aside just to be here, I really appreciate their sacrifices and desire, if I am to show my appreciation, then me too have to bend backwards too blend in with them, that's a sacrifice that worth it.
“ Hey Mom..... I never expected to see you....”, I gave her a hug, standing before her, both my hands resting on her shoulders, really admire the way her dress fit into her shoulders, as a matter of fact, that's just her, always gorgeous and supreme.
“ Why shouldn't I be the last person you expected when you never invited me.....”, she said, looking quite worried, I can see them on her face. “ No Mom, I don't mean it like that actually, it's just that I never found this occasion worth your time, it might be something great to me being here, but wasn't so special to have to send you an invite.....”. I had to explain to her, to let her know that I never wanted to ask her to come to an occasion which I don't see as important to her.
“ Looking by the way you say it, Lydia here might think you ever find anything serious, I have always known you Dave, there's nothing you have a deep connection with, always ready to back away from anything at anytime....”.
I can tell that she feels wronged, her words says it all, even though she wasn't saying exactly what was expected, but that's just me, always reading people like book, even those close to me. I hugged her again, knowing that she wasn't taking this as a joke, she really did want to be here, want to be in every occasion that I am involved in.
“ I'm sorry Mom, that won't happen again, from now henceforth, you'll be invited to every occasion that I am participating on.... I promise ”. That was when a smile began to creep in into her face, like I just happened to resolve the whole issue just by my promise to her right now. I turned to Lydia, “ I sure wasn't expecting this surprise, thanks a lot....”, I greeted her, appreciating her further thinking.
I had to take them to lunch, I am hungry, I know my mom is too, you are hungry when you are bored, and she has been doing nothing but standing with Miss Joseph all this while, watching my book presentation. I would never take myself and my mom to dinner forgetting Miss Joseph, she's having dinner with us too, she's becoming a character in my life, would at least appreciate her for all she did today, running around in helping organize the occasion, helping put things together, inviting my mom to this special occasion, she really deserves some praise, really deserves some rewards for her productivity, buying her lunch is also a way of saying thank you for her deeds.
Sitting on a round table, we were at a restaurant that serves something close to home cooked food, my mom was by the right side of me and Miss Joseph on the left, three of us were facing each other, despite Miss Joseph being nothing else but my secretary, she seems to fit in like it was just meant to be that way. The fact that she's still eighteen and posess a mindset which belongs to women at their late thirties is quite exceptional, I don't know whether she's just being professional or this was just her normal life, either way, I like her presence, we just click, working more like friends, rather than a Boss employee relationship.
“ So, how did you got my Mom here?....”, I asked, trying to focus the attention towards her since she's the one with more interesting topics to share, she's good at sharing details and I do admire the way she handles stuffs which sometimes feels like they're eating me up on some occasions.
“ I didn't actually reach out for her, she reached out to me, I used that opportunity to inform her about your special occasion today, that you would be opening your new book today.....”. My mom was all smiley, listening to Lydia explain a situation that involves her without her trying to intervene out of happiness, like she sometimes do, depending on who she's with.
“ Wow.... I guess that explains the use of first name back at the venue, she called you Lydia, going by your first name, I even seem to wonder, when did you guys got so close for mom to call you by your first name?.....”, I shared my thought with them. My mom and Miss Joseph shared a look, both putting on a smile like they had their own relationship which I never know about.
“ She's just keeping in touch with me after that day she got you lunch, we do speak a few times.....”. I turned to my mom and she looked away, looking at the other side of her shoulder. I know what she's trying to do, I know my mom and something she's capable of, she doesn't want to meet my gaze because she already knows that I am away also.
“ What can I serve you Sir?....”, The Waiter asked, interrupting my thoughts and what I was about to say.
