Ted The drive to the hospital doesn't take up me up to twenty minutes because of how fast I drove. My mind was already imagining worst case scenarios. What will I do if something happened to Beth? I park my car in the hospital parking lot and rush inside, my heart almost beating out of my chest. I tell the nurse at the lobby Beth's name and she tells me her room number. I rush to the elevator and press the button as many times as I can as the door closes The doors open on the floor and I run around looking for the room number when I see Elle sitting on a chair in front of the room, her face buried in her hands. "Elle." I say, rushing to her. She raises her head up, and when she sees me, she runs into my arms. She buries her face in my chest as she cries louder. I wrap my hands around her and comfort her, running my hands up and down her back. "It's okay, it's going to be alright. Just tell me what happened." She moves back and wipes her face as I lead her back to the chair to sit. "Well, I just came home from school when I noticed that the house was unusually quiet." She starts, trying to speak in between sobs. "I looked around the living room, calling her name, but I got no answer, and then I walked into the kitchen and saw her sprawled out on the ground, all beaten and bruised. She had already passed out, so I called an ambulance and had her brought here." I nod, hugging her to my side to stop her from crying. "It's fine, Elle. Beth is going to be fine. Is the doctor inside?" I ask her and she nods. "Okay, let's just wait for him to come out." I say and rest my back, thinking. Who could possibly have done this? Was it Mark? But why? Just as I was about to ask Elle something, the door to the hospital room opens and the doctor steps out. "Hey doctor." I stand to greet the doctor. "How's she? I hope there's nothing wrong." I say as Elle stands beside me. "She's fine. She was brought here in time, so she didn't loose too much blood." He says and is about to add more details when I secretly gesture for him to stop because of Elle. He looks at me and nods before changing the topic. "Are you a relative?" He asks me. "I'm her boyfriend, is there a problem?" "Well I need someone to sign the necessary documents." He says. "Okay, I'll do that, but can we see her." "Yes you can, but you have to be quiet as she's not woken up yet." I nod and go to follow him before I turn back to Elle. "Wait for me so that we'll go in together, okay? I'll be right back." I say and follow the doctor to sign the documents. I sign whatever I needed to and paid the bills before turning back to the doctor to ask for details. "Please can you give me the details?" I ask him. He sighs. "Well, she was severely beaten and has about two broken ribs, a dislocated shoulder and ankle." He says and my eyes widen. "You're going to have to take it easy when you go in there, okay? She really doesn't need any disturbance right now." I nod at the doctor before making my way back to Elle who was pacing around the front of the door. I cleary throat and remove any expression from my face as I walk up to her and gesture for her to follow me in. As I turn the knob to go in, my heart beat becomes louder and faster, scared for what I was about to see. The scent of bleach and antiseptics hit my nose and the fact that what the doctor had told me didn't prepare me for the sight that followed was really heart breaking. Beth is lying on the bed, looking absolutely beaten, her eyes swollen, purple and black discolorations on her face and arms, and these are only what her hospital dress isn't covering. I freeze with my hand on the door handle as Elle runs into the room, the sight of Beth making her cry again. I rush after her to stop her from touching Beth or making too much noise. I hold her back and shush her, patting her hair to calm down as she holds in her cries. I stare at Beth, blaming myself for her condition. If only I was able to protect her, then she wouldn't have ended up like this. I sit Elle down on a chair and walk over to the bed and stand over Beth, staring at her face where there was not one clear spot. Could it possibly be Mark, getting revenge for what I did to him? But that's not possible, because he already did by making Beth go to the news station. I turn back to Elle to ask her a question. "Did you see anything or anyone?" I asked her. "Well." She wipes her face. "I saw a woman walking out of the house with two men, but I thought she was just Beth's friend or at least an acquaintance, so I thought nothing of it, but when I saw Beth's condition and went back out to search for the woman, she was already gone." She says and I place my hand under my chin, thinking about who it could possibly be. Who would hold such a grudge against Beth or me? A name drops in my mind and I gasp and my eyes widen. There was only one woman that knew both Beth and I and could possibly hold such a big grudge. I turn around, my mind set on my destination and what exactly I was going to do to that person. I sure as hell am not going to let you go this time.
