09. The Invitation

It's lunchtime and Astrid was now walking in the pathway with her unusual grin. She didn't go to the cafeteria and decided to go check some books in the library to see what would be the nicest book to read for today. She's not that hungry at all, in fact she is used to not eating much food. While she was walking down the corridor towards the school library's building, she noticed something. She paused for a moment and turned her back to see what's behind her.
Astrid could feel that somebody was following her, she never saw someone when she turned her back to look, and so she continued walking.
While walking silently something got into her mind, "Hmm three men and I'm done for this week." She whispers as excitement begins to arise from her system, her aura today is more different, she's quite happy and in a good mood. The other students were surprised by her change and it made them hate her more.
When she entered the library, she passed by the counter where the school librarian was located. "Hi, Miss Talia!'' She cheerfully greeted but the librarian just raised her eyebrows on her with its usual poker face expression that made Astrid chuckled after showing her school I.D. Like some of the typical librarians, Talia Sanders is strict. She doesn't entertain the students unless it's an important matter, unlike other teachers who are approachable. She doesn't like noisy kids because it irritates her.
One more thing is that she's still young yet she was acting as if she was in her 40's. Her thick-red lipstick really suits her best, it makes her look more strict, Talia has a fair skin tone and she often wears white clothing which suits her perfectly. She has long dark raven hair which she always tied in a bun. She was known to be a man hater too, that made Astrid want to befriend her.
When Astrid finally got her confirmation code, she then roamed around her eyes and was definitely amazed by how huge and classy the library looked. Every bookshelf is located in a higher place, the library is really wide and the building has three floors. Huge glass windows and thick aesthetic curtains were on the side, the library was perfectly designed by the school's very own designer, they purposely designed it so students could have a nice stay even if they don't want to read. Upon entering inside, you will be really amazed.
Astrid went to the very corner of the library where the books that belong to the mystery section were located, she was fond of reading mystery genre books as well as horror.
She already has many collections at home but she wants to explore more. "Nice," her eyes were fixed on a book when she read its title. "Arts of Death, photography and reasons."
Her attention was immediately hooked by it so she hurried and picked it up and brought it to the selected table. Many things were bothering her mind while opening the book. The feeling of enthusiasm-her eyes sparked upon seeing the pictures from the book, trying to focus her eyes to the left page wherein a dead bird being pinned in a transparent window glass was displayed. "Artistic," she commented and read the reasons below the photograph.
All the photos and reasons she read, she imprinted it in her mind. An unusual grin again formed on her lips as she couldn't help herself but to giggle in eagerness, to do something more thrilling, perhaps.
In the middle of her reading, someone approached her. "Hi, Astrid! What are you doing here? It's very unusual to see you around this library."
Hawthorne averted her eyes away from the book and focused it to the student in front of her. She saw the beauty of a young lady in front of her. She has this confident look and tanned skin which would attract anyone else. Her smiles make her appear to be a kind person.
'Hmm, pretty but still stupid.' Astrid thought.
"I assume that you know what I was exactly doing." She answered and turned her attention back to what she was reading, the woman frowned.
In a glimpse, her mood changed again. Her cheerful aura vanished like a thin cloud in the air, and it was replaced with a rude and sarcastic one. For her, nothing is new at all, she is a moody person, it actually depends on whom she encounters or interacts with.
"Oh, so why are you alone today? Where's Mace Leo? She's probably in the school garden, doing her lifegroup moment. I bet she got bored hanging out with you, I think she doesn't like you at all." The lady uttered that Astrid paused from what she was doing.
"You're so annoying, why would you approach me? I don't know you at all, are you one of the insecure bitchs? Are you lacking attention or something?" Astrid forced a smile, she was starting to get annoyed and she knew that she wouldn't be stopping herself from grabbing the girl's collar and hitting her hard using the thick book she was reading.
The thought of disturbance wouldn't make her happy, the sudden approach of the young lady made her irritated. She may be one of the popular girls on their campus but that doesn't convince Astrid to show any care at all. Afterall, she knew that almost everybody in the school campus hates her existence. That's because they envied her for being so good at class.
Her achievements make her a bit proud of herself.
"I knew it, you're very disrespectful. I wouldn't come if it's not important. Anyway, there would be a party at my place. It's exclusive for important people, but since I have one more left of my invitation cards, I decided to give it to you." The lady said and rolled her eyes, she took a pink invitation card from her bag and handed it to Astrid.
"I pity you for always being alone, I am hoping you can come." Astrid Hawthorne shrugged her shoulders and placed her attention to the book.
That made the lady hissed in irritation, Astrid doesn't pay much attention to her and that made her feel unimportant at all. "Remember my face, girl. I am one of the teacher's favorites, you need to learn how to respect. Anyway, you're so boring, I better get going now. Don't forget to attend the party, you better be ready yourself." She said with an annoying tone of voice and left, the librarian scolded her for creating noise and that made her even more irritated.
Astrid slowly shook her head, she's thinking of not attending the party because she has lots of things to do at home, including her stitching routine but perhaps coming to the said party would be a nice try. She knew that there would be guys hanging out.
She glanced at the invitation card and grinned upon what she read.
You are invited to a pool party!
Venue: Sera's house, South Cassinfield, street 013
Time: 9 PM - 12 PM
Make sure to wear your swimwear! Or else you won't be able to be part of the party.
-Sera Lindy
"Why would she be throwing a party? She's not a celebrity or something so I bet this was all just useless." She whispered and continued reading her book.
She seemed to have lost her mood because of the simple approach of that woman, but she's looking forward to the said party.
