11. Forget the Task

The wind was cold and the clouds were still hiding the sunlight, the rain was none to stop. The so-called trained assassins were outside the mansion admiring the nicest set before them, the downpouring of rain. It's their routine to go outside to have their workouts, but Kendall and her partner Hugh Turner seemed so relaxed as they seated their backs on the benches.
"Why does it feel so irrational and unjust?" Their companion, Hase Rutledge retorted and frowned. He then pouted his lips while snorting in disagreement.
He found out that the two had already finished their appointed tasks; idleness seems to have devoured him because he couldn't start the responsibility which was assigned to him.
"That's a stupid question, bro. You should double your time and finish your assignment right away." Hugh answered. He is trying to reassemble the gun which Rutledge assigned for him to use.
"Well, I'm being lazy right now. I think the other dudes were getting rid of me which I find rude. Lucas reminded me to wrap up my task but I think it's too early to do that. My assignment is effortless though, I'll just have to disguise myself as a guest in a resort and whack the owner, Mr. Rios." Rutledge responded and sulked. Kendall on the other hand chuckled because of what she heard, she can't believe she is living with him on the same roof.
"It sounds fun. When will you be able to get your ass off your bed and get started with your task? Can I come along?" That question made Hase Rutledge smirked, Hugh Turner sighed in disagreement upon seeing the guy's expression.
He knows that the lad was now thinking of something else—a not-so-good idea. "Really? You're coming with me? What made you decide to come along? That's a bit unusual of you, Von. But that's a good idea though, we'll enjoy the place."
"Quit it, you are not going anywhere." Hugh interrupted but he received a glare from her instead. He is starting to get annoyed by the presence of Rutledge. Kendall giggled while Hase laughed loudly.
"Your expression is priceless!" He exclaimed.
"So when will you be doing your task?" Kendall Von asked while looking at him straight to his eyes, which made the guy feel awkward and so he averted his gaze.
"Maybe next week? I'll have to reschedule it since I'll be attending a class today and the other day. You know how good I am as a student, I have high grades in academics and I do well with my sports training as well." Hase felt so proud of himself, Hugh started to feel uneasy around him. He doesn't like it when his pal brags about his achievements.
"You sound so arrogant," Turner commented.
"Great, you better do good in class. I'll just have to wait until next week, it will be a nice stay for a quick vacation." Kendall Von stated.
Hugh Turner felt he was out of place, he was listening to their conversation and the idea pushed him to disagree as the opposition could be seen in his face.
Hase Rutledge, on the other hand, is now starting to make fun of him, he is trying to tease him. He knows that protecting Kendall is Hugh's responsibility. Seeing him right now being annoyed, it's more like a thing that he should be proud of.
It's hard to have small conflicts with Hugh Turner, he is tough to fight with, and he enjoys it so much whenever he makes him feel so angry.
"We'll take a bath together and I am pretty sure that it'll be the best thing to happen—" Hase's words were cut off when Hugh interrupted again, he was now glaring at the guy—trying to control his outrage.
"I'm coming with you." he firmly said, gritting his teeth in annoyance. Hase's grin widened, he knew that Hugh Turner couldn't grasp his emotion any longer. He chuckled and observed the dull sky, then a thought came to his mind.
"I bet Lucas can't come home today, what about we go out and bathe in the rain?" he suggested which made the other two look at him with confusion.
"What do you mean?"
"You never attempted it before? Come on, let's go and try it out. I've done it once, and I swear it's so fun!" those words caught their attention, it was as if their memories suddenly came back from when they were young.
Since they were kids, (except for Hugh since he grew up with his family) they never experienced the fun of what ordinary kids do—running all around the field playing outdoor games, building friendships with the other kids, and more. What did they usually practice ahead of time? Training, fighting, and putting their lives at risk. At a very young age, they never felt like a real kid.
Precisely, they never knew what friendship means. They don't treat one another as friends, possibly, 'acquaintance' would fit as a term to what they are right now.
"I think that's not a good idea, Hase," Hugh commented on what made Kendall's brows meet. She's starting to hate his side—being so strict all of a sudden.
"Come on, Hugh. I'm sure it's fun, we've been stressed out giving attention to our tasks, we're human too, we long for happiness, we never get to experience it." She said and Hugh Turner was forced to agree. Once again Hase Rutledge felt so happy.
They were predicting a heavy downpour and so they went inside the mansion to place the firearms back. They shifted their clothes since they got from training and sweats were all over their body, they decided to stand by the kitchen and prepare something to eat. The other party was not around because they had to finalize their assignments and get done with them right away. They were hired killers and they are assigned to kill someone extremely valuable.
"Do you think Lucas won't find out?" Kendall questioned while pouring milk on her glass, which made the two guys stop what they were doing.
They were so excited to the point that they didn’t think about what could happen to them if their boss didn’t like the idea. "Your Dad's a strict man, does he forbid you every time you want to do something you like?" Hugh asked, he is new to the group. The confusion plastered in his face indicates that he knows nothing. Hase and Kendall glance at each other, she shook her head but Hase did the opposite.
"Huh?"
"Dad won't forbid me sometimes, as long as it is not against the rules. He hates it when my life is at risk," she answered.
"Mine is the opposite, Lucas won't hesitate to bury me alive once I disobey him. The last time I failed my task, he almost fired the gun in my face." Hase said worriedly, the other two laughed and Kendall drank the milk from her glass.
"Idiot, that's because you are constantly breaking the rules so you're doomed. Why can't you imitate me? I'm always behaving and obedient." Kendall jokingly said.
"Tss, yea right! You're the good daughter." Laughter filled the whole kitchen room and that feeling was priceless, they knew that for a short time they enjoyed one another's company.
