Drake can't believe it himself. Time travel seems to be banned even in the distant future. If he can't find a timeline when it's legal, Celine can't give birth to their child. He thought that it would be easy to find that timeline. But he's already in the year 2050 now.
The world looks like a wasteland during this time. It's not a good place to live anymore since the law and order are not implemented. People are also more evil during this timeline. As if they no longer believe in being a good person. Everyone wants to harm one another.
He can't let his child be born during this year. Although people around here no longer believe in the law. He has to find a different timeline to bring his family. Drake walked towards a quiet alley so he wouldn't be seen. But the moment he took out his device, someone snatched it from his hand.
"Hey, that's mine!" Drake shouted to the person who snatched his device.
"You want it back? Come and get it!" The teenage boy told him to run.
Drake started running for the teenager because he can't afford to lose his device. It's the only way he can get back to Celine. This place is a wasteland so there is nothing he can work on around this place. Thankfully, he's no longer fat Chad anymore. He can keep up with the teen.
"Hey, Cedrick! What are you up to?" Asks one of the guys from the sidewalk.
"Can't talk right now, David! I'm running away from someone." Cedrick replied but didn't stop running.
Drake can't believe how the teenage boy casually told the other teen that he's running away. Maybe stealing is no longer a big deal during this year. He needs to take back the device but the teenage boy seems to not run out of energy. It's tiring to chase after him!
"Darn it! Kid, please stop. That device is important to me. I'll buy it from you!" He shouted at him.
Cedrick almost thought he heard it wrong but the stranger said it again. He's willing to buy the device he owns from him to get it back. It looks like junk to him but he knows it's worth something. He didn't want to miss the chance to earn easy money so he stopped running.
"How much is your offer?" Cedrick asks and holds up the device to show him.
"I will give you five bucks just to give it back!" He told him his offer.
"Five bucks!" Cedrick exclaimed and can't believe it is worth something.
"Fine, I'll give you ten bucks!" Drake changes his offer when he sees the kid looks unconvinced.
Cedrick can't believe that the offer is getting higher for old junk. Money around this timeline is tight and making an easy ten bucks is unbelievable. People around the area never even see ten bucks their entire life. That means that this guy must be rich!
"Alright, ten bucks for a time travel device. It's a deal!" Cedrick agrees.
"How did you know what it is?" Drake can't believe it.
"Well, I saw a lot of this from the junkyard. None of these models even works!" Cedrick told him and handed him the device.
Drake gave him the ten bucks as promised. But he can't believe that the same device was known around this timeline. Since he's already here, he should check out what happened with time travel. Maybe it's not a bad year to bring his wife to give birth to their child.
"Wait, your name is Cedrick, right?" Drake asks.
"Yeah, that's me! I can't believe you heard David earlier." Cedrick chuckles.
"Do you want to earn ten bucks a day?" He made his offer.
"Sure, why not? What should I do?" Cedrick asks, thinking how lucky he is now.
"I'm not from here so if you will help me and show me around, I'm going to pay you." He informed him.
Cedrick looks at him intently as if trying to see if he's not a bad guy. The more Drake looks at this kid, the more he feels familiar. As if he knows him from somewhere. But that's impossible since he's from 2050. It's his first time on this timeline.
"Fine, I'll help you as long as you're not from the TTA!" Cedrick finally agrees.
"There's TTA still around here?" He asks more of himself.
"Yes, they are all over town! They want to make sure nobody will time travel to escape this hellish place." Cedrick explains to him.
"Time travel is still banned from here!" He muttered to himself.
"As if people have a working device! They destroyed everything. I wonder why you are still keeping that old junk with you!" Cedrick referred to his device.
"Well, I invented it! It's just right for me to keep it." He just told him the truth.
Cedrick suddenly burst out laughing. He can't believe how crazy this guy sounds.
"Why are you laughing? It's true, I made this device and it's working!" Drake tried to convince the teenager.
"Right...sure, I believe you! It's almost dark, let's just meet here tomorrow so I can show you around." Cedrick informed him.
"But I don't have a place to stay! Do you know any hotel nearby?" He asks him.
"Hotels don't exist at this time and age, mister! What year did you come from?" Cedrick chuckled.
"I'm from 2030." He replied.
Cedrick waited for him to laugh and tell him he's joking but he didn't.
"Oh, you're serious! Well, I guess you have to come home with me then." Cedrick told him and started walking.
Drake followed the teenager and stopped asking questions. He needs a place to stay for the night and hotels no longer exist on this timeline.
After a ten-minute walk, they arrived in a not-so-pleasant home. Cedrick knocks at the door and a middle-aged woman opens it for them.
"Mom, he needs our help!" Cedrick told his mother while holding a glass.
"Good evening, ma'am! I'm Dr. Drake Cole." He introduced himself.
The glass slipped from the woman's hand and shattered into pieces.
