Chapter 44 Just need some time of yours

Chapter 44 - Just need some time of yours
Xi Song's POV
Taking off my gloves, I washed my hands. It was tough to focus on the surgery, knowing my personal life was getting ruined by my own hands.
My thoughts were eating me in such a way that I felt restless.
"Dr. Song? Dr. Song?"
I knew someone was calling my name, but it wasn't the voice I was searching for.
"Dr. Song?"
Again, someone called my name as I blinked, shrugging my thoughts away.
"Huh? Yes, Ms. Lu?"
"The water tap is still on." She pointed her finger as I panicked and turned it off. A drop of sweat fell on the sink when she again glanced at me with concern in her voice. "Dr. Song, are you alright? Is there anything bothering you?"
I took out some tissues and wiped my sweat off. Glancing at her, I passed a trembling smile. "Not at all! I'm all okay. Please, pay attention to the patient, and monitor his drip. Change it within 3 hours."
"Noted, Dr. Song."
..................................................
Stepping ahead, I came out of the tent. I was sweating so hard, but it wasn't even hot weather. I could feel my hands trembling, and my knees were getting numb.
Suddenly, my headache also started, and it felt hard to breathe even.
I rested my back on the wall while my hands were on my knees. My eyes squeezed shut, and I could barely hear anything.
Everything seemed to spin as if I was on a ride. I felt as if the veins around my forehead were stretching.
My head was bursting with pain, and I couldn't help but bear with it.
With my half-lidded eyes, I looked at Ling Xiao and Xia Na.
"Xi Song, don't you think you should talk to her? At least, apologize to her."
His words were echoing in my ears, yet I couldn't hear them clearly.
"I..." With one gasp, my body fell to the ground, and I closed my eyes.
................................................
The time had escaped from my hands.
Looking through those drawn eyes of mine, I found myself lying in one of our tents.
I blinked my eyes for a minute and tried to get up when someone stopped me.
"Hey! Don't you dare to get up and waste your energy again?" He shouted at me as I glanced at his face. "Ling Xiao?"
"Who else? Dr. Song, I'm warning you. Eat on time and don't work overtime. See, I have to give you a gluten drip."
"At last, I got some time to rest. But what are you doing here? Don't you have to look after patients?"
"I have to! But our team only has two professionals. If you get sick, we have to arrange another one which seems impossible in the current situation."
My brows pulled together as I stared at him. I knew it exhausted him by working alone, yet he hid it behind his smile. I felt sorry for increasing his worries. After all, I saw him working harder than me.
"Ling Xiao, thanks for today."
"Yah! Is your brain damaged as well? Do we need a thank you?"
My lips curled up into a tiny grin as I nodded. "Yep! My treat after going back."
"That's our thing."
As she came inside, my gaze automatically shifted from this brat to Xingyue. Her face seemed terrified. Did I scare her a lot?
Finding us staring at each other, Ling Xiao slipped away from the side, leaving me alone in this awkward moment.
"I may leave now. Have a pleasant talk, you two."
.................................................
Xingyue's POV
Seeing Ling Xiao leaving us alone, Xi Song seemed a little afraid. Was he now even nervous to talk with his own wife?
But no matter what, I didn't wish this for him. Even if I'm mad at him, I would never want to see him lying on the bed, taking drips for energy.
Playing with my fingers, I quickly made my way and sat beside him while he kept staring straight, not even glancing at me.
His behavior made me feel annoyed, but at the same time, I needed a calm talk with him.
"Is the wall beautiful? How about marrying the wall?"
Hearing my sharp words, he immediately turned his head towards me. Despite that, his eyes were afraid to meet mine.
"Xi Song..." I grabbed his hand gently, which gave him the courage to lift his gaze.
"A-are you still mad at me, Xingyue?"
"I am, and why wouldn't I be? Even If I'm mad, I can't keep myself away from you. I still love you, Xi Song. A minor argument can't break us like this, am I right?"
"Hmm!"
There were creases beside my eyes as I passed him a gentle smile.
"I only wanted to see you safe, Xi Song. It's not that I came here to make you worry about me. I understand your duty is more crucial than mine. In your life, I'm not in the first place. Your job always comes first, and I know that."
I softly took his hand in my hands and put it on my cheeks. "All I want is some time for myself. All I want is love. I want to see you caring for me just the way I do for you. That's all, Xi Song. Nothing more!"
"I know your time is reserved for your patients, and I respect it. But then what about me? Can't you give me some time of yours? I'm not asking for expensive dates and gifts. With you by my side, in our small-comfy home, eating homemade dishes, watching a movie together is enough for me."
My hands moved in sync as I caressed his cheeks as well. "Some cuddling together is enough, Xi Song. Tell me, can you get a piece of time out of your life reserved for me? Can you?"
