Xi Song's POV "Xi Song!" As soon as I turned, I heard my name. For a moment, the entire world seemed to have stopped. I looked back with longing eyes. She was not there. The one my eyes yearned to see made my heart restless; she was not there. I lowered my eyelids with a disappointed face when Ling Xiao put a hand on my shoulder and asked, "Were you expecting someone else? Haha!" I put on a smile. "Of course... Not. You're here already." I hugged him and patted his back. Breaking the hug, I picked up my bag and then went ahead. This time, I knew that even if I looked back, I would find emptiness in my destiny. I moved ahead with my head raised. In just a moment, the flight took off for the US. Maybe I accepted our story as incomplete. ........................................................ Xingyue's POV I reached the airport while running. There was no time to even breathe. I immediately asked an air hostess standing there. "Has the flight to the US taken off?" "Yes, Ma'am. It left 15 minutes ago." I was stunned to hear it, and in a short while, I found myself falling to my knees. It was as if someone had lost the will to live. I saw Xia Na and Ling Xiao running towards me. She grabbed my arm, lifting me up. "Xingyue, are you okay?" A tear dropped down my cheek, but I still had a smile. "I missed him, Xia Na. I couldn't see him for the last time." She gently embraced me. "Maybe because there's still something left for you two. It could be more than just a goodbye." ................................................ Author's POV While walking, she was going towards her garden when her eyes fell on the mailbox. She came inside, sat on a chair, and opened the letter to read. Dear Mom, Reading the first line made her believe it was from Xi Song, but she found herself wrong when she read the letter till the end. Her lips curled into a tiny grin as she took a piece of paper and wrote something. She put it and the letter into another envelope and mailed them to the US. ...................................... Working on his desk, he kept a check on the daily reports when a colleague approached him. "Dr. Song, there was mail for you." He handed the envelope to him and left. It was already night. He returned to his room. Sitting against the wall, he started opening that envelope. It had a folded piece of paper with a note stuck on it. [Dear Son, I hope you are doing great. When Xingyue sent me this letter, I knew you needed it more than me. That's why I am giving it back to its rightful owner.] With his trembling hands, he picked up the letter and unfolded it. Taking a deep breath, he read it. [Dear Mom, I know I am too late to tell you this. Despite that, you were right when you said someday I'd thank you for this marriage. I could not uphold this marriage, but I definitely found love. Maybe it's too late to realise this. Try to live today; you never know when it will be snatched away. I came to know this when I lost the chance to see him for the last time at the airport. I realised how intense our love could be if a little distance bothered us. But you know, Mom, I was relieved of one thing. I was happily watching Xi Song grow up. He could finally have it, Mom. Are you proud of your daughter for letting him go? I am, for sure. Still, why do I still have hope of rekindling my love someday? Will it ever happen? No one knows, yet our fate knows everything. Thank you, Mom, for all those letters. I finally let go of my unsettled guilt and freed myself. You had a proud Son-in-law, but now you need to focus on your upcoming proud daughter too. I love you.] .................................................. Xi Song's POV While making fried rice, I listened to Ling Xiao's chatter. I added a little salt to the pan and sighed. "So when did you plan on proposing to her?" "That's why I called you. You must know it better than me." "I'm reminding you I had an arranged marriage. Don't expect me to come up with anything. Just approach Han Shuo for that." His laugh had me dazed. "Him, seriously? He's even struggling to chase his girl. How come he will suggest me a marriage proposal idea? Stop kidding me." "His girl?" "Oh! You don't know about Tang Xue and Han Shuo, right?" "So, the news was real?" "Nopes. She confessed when Han Shuo tried to clarify the news. Wait, don't change the topic, and help me." "Weren't you known as the romance prince of the hospital? You don't need my help," I added sarcastically. "Yaa! Weren't you the romance king then?" "Just throw a rich rose petal proposal. I think Xia Na likes expensive things." Ling Xiao's POV I was standing on the balcony talking to Xi Song. Later, my eyes fell on Xia Na sleeping on the sofa. She cupped her legs, hugging them like a baby panda. I could not stop myself from adoring her. Doomed at the sight, I grinned. "No, you're wrong. She is the most carefree soul I've ever seen. I can't even explain her. She loves spending time with me gardening together, walking down the streets, and just spending the weekend cuddling each other in a cosy bed." "I'm sleepy enough to cut your loving crap." My face dropped for a moment after listening to him. I pressed the end-call button firmly. "This brat." I rolled my eyes as I walked inside. I got down on my knees and beamed at her. An idea hit my brain as I stood up with a big smile. "Right! She loves peaceful dates." The very next day, I woke up early and started preparing a special breakfast for her. Putting down a heart-shaped omelette, I looked back in delight at the ring. "Perfect!" "What's perfect?" I choked on my breath as I heard her voice. Quickly, I hid the ring and turned to face her. "Oh, Xia Na, you woke up." She carefully examined the breakfast and let out a chuckle. "Is there something special today? I mean, it's not even your birthday or mine. It's not our anniversary either." She suspiciously glanced at me as I gulped before telling her. "Xia Na, I have something to tell you."
