Chapter 43 - Is our love for real? Xingyue’s POV My eyes were wretched, seeing how close my death was. It felt as if someone threw me into the mouth of sleep. My soul was also shivering at the close sight of death. My heart pounded out, ripping my ribs. I had my hands over my ears, and my eyes squeezed shut. I knew a wall had fallen on me, but I didn't really feel anything. Suddenly, I felt pairs of arms around me that covered my back. I was still breathing, and my body was all fine. What was the reason behind it? Slowly, I opened my eyes and stared at the face close to mine. His crumbly voice echoed in my ears. "Xingyue, are you alright?" A tear escaped my eyes when I saw the bloodstained over his white coat. "Xi Song, your back is covered with blood. Did you get hurt somewhere? Why did you hurt yourself for me?" Turning around, I cupped his face, meeting our forehead, and kept asking without letting him speak. I knew he felt annoyed, but I was worried about him. I knew I was panicking, but I couldn’t stop myself. He stared at me while his finger sealed my lips. "Don't say anything. You're my responsibility, Xingyue. We have to get out of it, okay?" "But... That little boy..." "We already found him. He's with Ling Xiao. Let's get out of here first." Holding my hand, he slowly stepped forward as I followed him. ................................................. He held a bud in his hand and treated my wounds. "Xi Song, is your back alright?" Saying nothing, he put a bandage on my knee and stood up. His poker face gave me some worry as if he was mad at me. "Xingyue, why did you come here? I told you to wait for me at home, right? Then, why did you?" I felt a little bothered listening to him. I had come here only to see him, but he didn't care about my feelings. In fact, it irritated him to see me here. "Xi Song, don't you really care about my feelings? I came here all along just to see if you're doing okay or not? But you don't even bother about it." "Xingyue, I care about your feelings. But that doesn't mean you can come here to see me. I'm here as a doctor, and I don't have time for you." "Does that mean I'm coming between you and your work? Xi Song, sometimes I feel that our love is one-sided, where only I'm putting effort and acting like a fool around." My heart clenched. However, I'm a human too. I couldn't stop my feelings as well. No matter if it hurts or not, speaking out would be the best. "Xi Song, do you really love me? Or are we playing around and wasting each other's time? If I'm disturbing your life, I can leave your world. Just clear it with me. I can't see myself being a fool anymore." Wiping off my tears, I stepped back and back, only to get out of the tent. ...................................................... Author's POV Xingyue's words felt bitter, but somehow, they were true as well. He could not even let her go away, and his mind was not ready to give her that love. What did he want, after all? His feelings genuinely showed him the path to her heart, but why did he hesitate to step forward? Why couldn't he let go of his past and accept his present? Today, seeing that pain in her eyes, the wounds of his heart became deeper. His heart pounded to see her state, but his mind won't let him go to comfort her, to give her those warm hugs. With his eyes shut, he stood there alone, fighting with misery. "Xi Song, I know you care about her, but your way was wrong. You hurt her feelings." Ling Xiao, for the first time, believed that the way he dealt with her was wrong. After all, he knew Xi Song wouldn't treat his wife in this way. Then why did he do this to Xingyue? The silence in the room claimed the growing tension. The loneliness was a sign of a storm that could take away their everything. A nurse came running up to them and nervously called out Xi Song's name. "Dr. Song! The patient's health is getting unstable." Turning around, he took his gloves and ran outside. "Prepare for the surgery." ................................................. Ling Xiao saw him leaving until he disappeared from his sight. He could see his worries even if he didn't tell him. A sigh escaped his lips when he turned to see Xia Na. "So... Did you come along with her? You know this place is dangerous, Xia Na." Her lips curled into a tiny pout as she rolled her eyes. "Are you going to lecture like your friend? If yes, sorry, I had enough of him." Seeing her getting irritated, Ling Xiao took a step ahead and pulled her closer. His arms rested upon her waist, and his eyes stared at her with full of love in them. "Why would I lecture you? I know you came here to see me, and I'm glad you came. I was tired, the day before, but after seeing you, I felt refreshed." A smile spread all over her face as she hid her face in his chest. "For real?" Humming, he caressed her hair strand back. "But you should go back now. I don't want to risk your life for me. I'll come back soon, and then I'll take you on a beautiful date, okay?" "Hmm! I'll wait for you at our home." "That's my Xia Na." Leaning, he kissed her forehead as she giggled. Sometimes, dealing with calmness brought a satisfying result. Rushing or getting mad could spoil our relationship. Therefore, the more you handle it with generosity, the more it leads you to beautiful glory. It is because we all have a soft heart hidden in the world's bitterness. It's good to let down your guard and listen to someone else's opinion. Maybe it brought a smile to both faces than tears rolling down to cheeks.
