Chapter 12 The Worst of All

"Jake, where is he?" Isabella asked. She was tired of not hearing anything from Evander except for the constant howls, having her chest being ripped out everytime she heard it, and just sitting there, waiting. Doing nothing.
He looked solemn. He, more than anyone knew what the two were feeling, and in as much as he wanted to sympathize with Isabella, he couldn't bring himself to do it. She has betrayed all of them, and god help them if Evander was just any alpha. They would probably not even have a proper burial.
"Alpha Evander needs his time alone."
He kept the food on the bedside table and turned.
"And the chocolate? Ice cream? Every night, you drop them here."
He shook his head and turned to face her.
"I don't. What? Do you care now?"
"What are you saying?"
He chuckled darkly and sat on the floor, close to the bed. He has thing he would say to her, but had been holding himself back.
"Have you ever, throughout your two weeks here, thought about how things would be, if Evander didn't possess the gift he had? We would all be dead. You would go back to your pack as the powerful delta who conquered the one pack no one has ever attacked. Evander would be dead too. He would rather commit suicide than watch his pack members die. Do you know what brought us back? The love he has for us. You betrayed that love. You took his transparent glass heart,"
he took out a glass figurine from the bedside.
"And you smashed it on the wall and broke it to pieces."
He smashed it on the wall and it shattered, leaving scattered pieces embedded in his bloodied hands.
"Just like these ones, now, its hurting you."
He walked to her and showed her the glass pieces in his hands and she could only see the blood and a shattered reflection of her.
"But, a broken heart can still beat again, can't it? Just like, Evander's shattered, bloodied heart still holds reflections of you."
He sighed and dumped the glass in the bin next the door, and after removing the glasses that were stuck, his hand healed. "
I'll leave the door open."
He said and walked out. That had been the most he had said to her since she met him, and she couldn’t ignore it. She walked out, calmly, checking for Alec. She knew that Jake may be patient, but Alec could strangle her if he saw her out here. She carefully took the flight of stairs towards the main room, then turned towards the other flight of stairs, leading to his office and his room that they had shared.
She opened the door calmly, stepping in. She had expected into be a mess, the way men usually took out their anger and smashed things, but it wasn't. The room looked just as beautiful as it had always been, and even her own closet was there. Just that there was nobody in it. She turned, closing the door behind her.
She opened the office. She didn't really bother coming in here, then, but just like the rooms, it was white too. No one. She was about to step out when she heard a low howl. She turned to search, her wolf fully awake.
There was no one. She decided to check the shelf and there, just hidden from view, behind the shelf was a white wolf. Evander. The wolf's eyes held a tint of silver in its blue, and was so sad, her wolf actually cowered.
"Hey"
she said. The wolf withdrew. She sat on the floor, close to him, and tried to force a smile, a smile that would have been easy, if only she didn't feel this violent tug in her heart. She reached out her hand to touch it, and with one swift movement, it jumped away, out of reach and bounded out of the window, leaving her to herself.
She withdrew her hand, letting it fall on her lap and her head fell too, along with her hair.
" this is all on you. You did this to him."
Yes, she thought. This is all on me. I did this to him and I have to fix it, no matter what. She walked out of the office, feeling better and resolved.
"Why did you let her out?"
"Whether you accept it or not, she is the only one that can help him. You know he still wants her."
Alec glared at him.
"You're being irrational."
"I don’t care. As long as Evander is okay, I don't care who it is."
Alec left, going for a run to calm himself down, and Jake simply tucked his hands into his pockets.
