Chapter 16 Broken Again

The sound of shattered glasses reached her ear as she stood in front of the closed door of his office. She didn't attempt to go in or stop him. He had to let it out. This was the first time he ever did something like this, and she had to allow him. Things reeled in her mind.
She was part of the problem. She was one of those people who he loved and had hurt him. She had taken advantage of his kindness too. She fell to her knees, all the things she had buried deep inside, overflowing. How could she do this? How could she hurt the only person who ever ignited and emotion in her so bad?
She remembered the way he fell when he heard the gunshots. She remembered the way he looked at her when she touched his cheek and called him weak. She allowed herself to go down on her knees.
"Evander. I'm...I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. Please...please forgive me."
She mumbled, her hands clasped to her face, her mouth open, trying to stop her tears. Why did she hurt the person she loved? The realization wasn't shocking. She knew she had. She had always loved him. Now she had to show that to him. But. He had to forgive her first.
Out of the corner of her eyes, she saw Alec open the door to the office and go in, and she could see the broken figurines and vases on the floor, most importantly, before the door blocked her vision, she saw Evander, sitting on the floor, his blonde hair in a beautiful mess, his face in between his elbows...and just like the cases on the floor, he looked shattered.
Their eyes met for a micro second, and blue flashed in his eyes, before the door closed. Maybe....just maybe...he would be able to forgive her..maybe..just maybe..he could still love her.
"Evander. I will stop her. She won't leave."
He raised a hand and stood up, supporting himself by holding the wall.
"Just let nanny Mel go. I don't care about who she wants to run away with. Its okay."
"Are you sure?"
He nodded.
"I loved nanny Mel, and I didn't do much for her, even though she helped me then. Consider this the last tribute of love to her."
Alex sighed.
"You've been going through a lot, Evander. You should rest"
he nodded.
"I think so too. Why don't we get a drink?"
He said, his face lighting up just a bit, his cut hand healed. "Yes. I'll tell Jake. Bills on you, Alpha"
he laughed, a rich sound no one had heard in a long while including him.
"Okay. Hit me up when you're ready. I will just clean up here"
"cool, man."
Alec gave him a friendly pat on the back, and left, acting as if Isabella wasn't there. She didn't exactly care for him to notice her, so she just stood there for a bit, hearing him clean up, then sigh, then laugh a little, then cry a little, before she heard his levelled breathing. He was asleep. She turned and left, her mind blank.
"He had no choice. That deepest part of him that still aches up till today, that, I used against him. He's too kind a soul."
Nanny Mel smiled at the red head. The red head was average, and really slim. Her face too was average, but her black eyes made her look like a raven.
"Are you sure he won't ever find me?"
Nanny Mel stopped to think.
"That's if you don't run to him first. It could be too strong for you to handle."
The red head shook her head vehemently.
"No way. I was really lucky that I found out first. I am still on that luck, since he read your mind but didn't find me out. If I’m going to run anywhere, it will be to split moon."
Nanny Mel looked at her.
“When we get out, I will cause a distraction. It might be in the night, since we are leaving late, I heard."
"I'll get ready."
Nanny Mel nodded and left to pack her things.
"Another round! Another round!"
Alec said to the waiter, and she ran over with a tray carrying three big mugs of strong beer. Evander looked whipped out as his head was dangling from his chair. Jake was singing off key, and Alec kept hollering and laughing like a mad man.
"Hey, wake up."
Evander shook his head.
"Let me sleep"
Jake laughed.
"He's whipped. Let's take him home"
Alex sighed dramatically and hauled his beer. It was a good decision to bring a driver, if not, they would have crashed into Evander's home. He got out, hugging them and laughing, before letting them go home. He staggered to the door, fondled with the knob for sometime before opening it, then walked straight to the couch in the living room. He rarely sat there, and he just sighed, adjusting, before standing up and heading straight to his room. The room he had given to Isabella.
She was standing in front, wondering why he was there. It didn't take her long to know that he was drunk, and she knew it wouldn't last long. It had happened before. Two hours, and he's sober.
"Hey, there."
He said, sitting on the bed.
"How are you doing? I'm so concerned about you."
He laid down, his eyes drifting close.
"I love you so much, Bella."
He said finally and closed his eyes, asleep. She just stood there, watching him sleep. The pink in his cheek, ears and nose. How he looked peaceful, yet so troubled. She sat next to him, smoothening his hair, and smiling to herself.
"You're so graceful"
she said, still arranging his hair. She stood and leaned forward, kissing his forehead.
"I love you too, Evander. I'm sorry it took so damn long."
She knew he wouldn't hear her, but at least, she could say it loudly now. One day, she will be able to say it to his face.
