Chapter 17 Mate

She fell asleep by his side, patting his forehead, before the grogginess of sleep made her drop the hand to her side.
"Hi."
The moon was behind her, and her hair was flying with the wind. She was biting her lower lip, and there was a slight sadness in her eyes.
"You still haven't found me, Evander. I'm hurt"
He was standing, his blonde hair covering his eyes as the strands flew with the wind.
"I am your mate, Evander. Please find me."
He looked at her, his heart besting fast
"what's your name?"
She smiled and turned, and suddenly she was nowhere. The moon was bluish and bright and he stood alone, the wind and her strong lavender scent hitting him with every breath he took.
Isabella woke up, her eyes blurred from sleep and she saw him still sleeping peacefully. So peacefully he was hardly breathing. She stood up and went to get water, took a glass and dropped some on the bedside just in case he would want some.
She clutched her bag tight, running madly through the shrubs. She had tripped and lost her phone in a pool of mud and now, she only relied on her eyes. She ran fast, chanting one name as her breathing faltered and picked up again with every strain.
"Please....let me reach there."
She wasn't even praying. She was mostly just talking so she would get the fear out of her mind. She had never been left alone before, always with her grandmother. Now, she had to do this. The strain on her heart was nothing compared to the physical fatigue she felt. She was a werewolf. She was born to run. But to run from her destiny? To run from....him? No. Even she didn't think so. But she was going to do it. She had run past full moon and she knew with enough perseverance, she would reach split moon. She had to. And she was sure it would be worth it. He knew she was coming.
He knew she would risk everything for him. After all, he was hers. He was made for her and she was made for him. Both of them knew it. She didn't belong to full moon and despite everything, she never will. It wasn't long before the noise started. Quick run that matched her own, sounds of hitting shrubs, whispers and hisses. She swallowed hard, and picked up the pace, in the process throwing her bag away. They could be rogues or strays. Doesn't really matter which one, they were dangerous and she had to run. No matter what.
She ran with everything she had, covering long distance, before she saw a building entirely made of wood. It was lonely and just what she needed at some point, since she couldn't afford for whatever was catching up to her rapidly to actually catch up with her. She ran to it, opened the door, closed it behind her and shuffled into a corner breathing hard. Her heart was beating silently in her chest, her heart felt like it was going to be torn apart, but she tried pay no heed. She knew why, and she would ignore. She heard the footsteps come closer, and she tried to breathe quietly, just so theywouldn’t hear her. She listened anxiously as the footsteps came close, so close she felt as if they were in the house.
Clasping her hands tight on her mouth, she prayed fervently for them to not find her. She didn’t care who they were, she didn’t want to be found. Much less, by seemingly dangerous people. The footsteps suddenly dispersed, and she could hear different footsteps in different directions. She waited , as the footsteps grew more distant and faint until she couldn’t hear them anymore. Poking her head out of the small slit she had opened in the door, she scanned the place, making sure the coast was clear, before taking a deep breath to calm her beating heart.
But how deep did she have to take that swing of air to stop the tearing pain in her heart as she ran in the opposite direction from the person who was destined to own it? She shook the thought from her head and started to run, a bit slower than before towards the trail she had followed to the house, in order to retrieve her bag. When she found it, a good mile from the house, she picked it up, dusting, saying a small thank you. She turned around to continue her journey, but instead came eye to eye with three pairs of vicious looking green eyes, in faces that didn't look like they personally knew the meaning of kind.
She gasped and tried to run, but was tackled roughly, her mouth gagged with what seemed to be an impromptu gag, her hands tied behind her tight, and the only sounds she could hear was of their triumphant laughter and the dragging sound her body made on the floor as they dragged her along the trail, to what she assumed and somehow already knew would be the house. Maybe it wasn't a safe forte after all.
"Wake up."
Isabella said to Evander's sleeping form. She had woken up to him thrashing and gasping, gripping his chest, but somehow unable to wake up and open his eyes or move. She shook him hard, but all he did was calm down, then continue after sometime. She contemplated calling Jake, but was hesitant since they still had up to at least, two more hours before dawn breaks.
When he started again, this time mumbling words she couldn’t understand, his hand on his heart, his face wrinkled, she gave it up and turned on the lights, took out a coat to go out and call Jake. She had almost stepped out of the room before he opened his eyes and sat up, breathing hard.
"Hey, I was going to call Jake. What's wrong with you? Was it a nightmare?"
He turned to her, a bit absent mindedly, before regaining focus and staring straight into her eyes. Even though taken aback, she still held the gaze, looking at the blue specks that tinted his silver eyes. He broke into a smile, grabbed her waist, pulling her to him in a warm embrace. Her heart stopped for a second, as the excitement and confusion hit at once and she was going to open her mouth to ask him if he had forgiven her, if it was all okay between them now, but before she could, he released her, still smiling and stood up, his hand in his hair, laughing like a lunatic.
"Evander?"
She said, making it sound more like a question and he turned to her and smiled again.
"She's really great, that moon goddess. She made you cause me pain, that i still haven't healed from, and then brought her to me."
he smiled again and she gave him a look.
“who?”
“My mate.”
