5 days later
It was Saturday and the sun is above the sky when I woke up. But sadly, the room is still a little dark in view of the fact that there are quite few of trees surrounding the mansion. I look around before I decided to get up. I look where I put my phone, and when I found it, I called Claudine immediately.
“Hello?”, the person said on the other line. She sounded like she was still half asleep.
“Are you still asleep?”, I asked.
“It’s still early, Pauline. Let me sleep”, she yelled on the other side of the line.
“I want you here at exactly 10 o’clock”, I demanded. She sighed and she sounded annoyed. It was still 7 anyway so she still has 3 hours to do what she wants to do for the day.
It was 10 o’clock and I was just sitting on the couch waiting for her to arrive. Minutes later, the doorbell suddenly rang. I got up and went to open the door. And as expected, it was Claudine.
“You’re late”, I said but in a joking tune.
“I was just a minute late, gosh”, she said like she was annoyed.
“Still, you’re late”, I laughed,
“Whatever! Your place is really huge, I don’t think we can finish cleaning this before sun set. So, I asked someone to help us”, she said with a smile.
“Who?”, I asked and raised one of my brows.
“Unfortunately, no one agreed to help”, she frowned.
I can’t help but do a facepalm. I was really hoping someone could really help us.
“Let’s start or we’ll definitely not be done cleaning before the sun set”, I commanded. And we started cleaning in a rush.
We were cleaning just fine. We took a break for a while and eat lunch. After we finished eating, we continued cleaning and it went well. Claudine went upstairs to clean the bathroom there. I was startled when she suddenly shouts. I went to her hurriedly to check what happened. When I saw her, she was on the floor and here eyes were wide open as she was looking inside the bathroom. She was shaking so I went closer and I grab her shoulder. She was astonished, and when she saw that it was just me, she hugged me so tight. I took to the first floor and sat her down on the couch. I gave her water to calm her down.
“What happened to you? Why are you so frightened?”, I asked. she took a sip from the water I gave her. After taking a sip, she looked at me and I saw how pale her face was
“C-can I-I g-go h-home?”, she stutteringly asked.
I can’t say no when she was talking that way. I can see that she really wants to go home and she don’t want to spend any minute here anymore. And she looks like she was about to cry. Even though we haven’t finished what we are doing yet, I let her go home. I don’t know what she’s up to and why she was acting that way. We were really fine and then she suddenly acts that way. Is it really true that she has a third eye? I don’t think so, there’s no such thing as ghosts. I think she was just stress, and she was just having an anxiety attack. That was maybe it. I hope she’ll be okay.
Claudine’s POV
“What happened? Why do you look like that?”, my mom asked. My mom approached me and assists me. She sat me down on the couch and calm me down.
“Every girl in our family can see ghosts and have third eye, and no one can run away from that. No one in our family can’t see ghosts and things that others can’t see. Every girl, young and older ones have that ability that we can’t figure out if it’s a curse or a blessing”, I murmured.
“What are you talking about?”, she asked again. My mom was confused and worried at the same time. It all shows in her face as she was asking me what’s wrong with me.
“Mom, you know that Pauline moved to her mansion, right?”. My mom nodded as a response. “The first time I went there, I saw a headless lady holding her own head, and now I saw a hanging lady in her bathroom mom”. I stated. “Her face was decaying, and they are full of maggots, while her voice sounds like the voice of an evil. I don’t think I can go back there, mom”, I continued.
My mom hugged me tightly and comforted me. It isn’t my first time, my whole life I’ve been seeing ghosts, but those ghosts in that mansion was different. They have different aura, and they somehow look like devils.
“You must be very scared. Just tell her that you won’t be visiting her there anymore”, mom said. Her voice was so calm and soothing, I can’t help but calm down.
Pauline’s POV
Since that day, Claudine never dares to come into the mansion. And every time I invite her, she would always say no. That was strange because she would never say no to me.
“Are you mad at me?”, I asked her one day. She looks at me with a confused look.
“No. Why would I be mad at you?”, she asked. She was raising one of her eyebrows while she was asking me.
“Well, because you never visited me at the mansion anymore and, each time I invite you to come with me, you’d always say no”, I stated.
“I am not mad at you, okay?”, she assured. “I’m just scare because your mansion is really creepy, you know. I know you don’t believe in ghosts, but I can see them with my own two eyes”. She continued.
“Okay then, I’ll believe that there are ghosts for you”, I said. I just said that so she’ll cheer up.
“You’ll going to sell that mansion now?”, she asked with excitement in her eyes as she was looking at my eyes.
“Nope”, I declared. “That mansion was my parents’, and auntie really treasure what my parents own. And she won’t agree that I’ll sell that mansion, I asked her already and she said no”. I continued.
Claudine let out a sigh and continued what she’s doing. She stayed quiet all day and I did not annoy her so she won’t get mad at me. When the bell rang and it was time for me to go home, I hurriedly went home to relax. But when I open my bedroom door, I saw my belongings got messy and was on the floor. I checked if there’s something missing, but strangely, there was none. I don’t think someone got inside the mansion since the front door was locked and I checked every window and the back door but those are locked. I locked them before I went to school, I am sure I did.
