It was almost 4 'oclock in the morning but I can't sleep. I was just closing my eyes while holding my stomach, but I can't take it anymore. I get up and was about to open the door, but I heard a loud footsteps coming from the other side of the door. I froze and listen to the footsteps. I don't know where it came from but the footsteps become louder and louder like it was getting closer, and then it stops. I let out a sigh and thought that was it. But suddenly there was a loud knock on my door. I was startled and I took a step back.
"Pauline", a soft voice calling out my name. "Pauline", it called out again, but this time it was a little louder. The door knob started to twist on its own and thankfully it was locked. I tip-toed towards my bed and covered myself with my blanket. It called out my name nonstop as it twist the doorknob continuously. I prayed for it to stop but it took hours for it to stop. It was exactly 5 'oclock when it stops. I did not went outside my room until the sun completely rises. I'm scared because if ever I'll open the door and went out my room, someone or something might have waited for me outside. Someone unknown and scary.
7:30 in the morning when I decided to get out of my room. It was monday and I don't have enough sleep so I came up with a decision that I'll skip class just for today. I went to the kitchen and made breakfast. After eating, I went back to my room and get some sleep. I don't know how long I'm asleep, but when I woke up, I saw the tv was on.
I got up and turned off the tv. I decided to take a bath because I already have enough sleep. When I got out from the bathroom, I saw the tv was turned on again.
"You're really quite stubborn aren't you?", I murmured out loud. "If you want to watch tv, why can't you choose a nice channel. Your choice really sucks", I said even though I saw no one and I'm all alone. I acted calm even though in the inside I am really scared.
I dress up hastenly so I can leave the house as soon as possible. I don't think I can stay calm for long, I'm afraid someone might show up with some scary face. Today I'm going to the place I planned to go yesterday. I took a cab on the way there so I won't tire myself.
The cab took me in front of a building. One of the rooms belongs to that former caretaker of the mansion. I paid the taxi and I didn't hesitate to go inside the building. I ask people if they know Mr. Villamin because the details are not complete and I forgot to ask the lawyer.
It took me a while to find his apartment. Only few people know him so its kind of tricky to find him. I knock twice at his door and he immediately opened the door. When the door opened, I saw a man standing there. He wasn't old looking yet he's like in his mid 50's but his hairs are white. He stand so straight so I can say he's not old looking.
"What can I do for you, young lady?", he asked while his brows lifted.
"Good morning Mr. Villamin. I am Pauline Smith, the new owner of the mansion you used to look at", I introduced myself. He look fascinated as he looks at me. "I just want to ask something, if its okay with you", I continued. His brows were lifted again, looking confused, but then not a second past, his facial expression changed. He looks like he knew what I am here for.
"Come in, Ms. Smith", he invited. I went in and thank him for letting me in. He offered me a chair to sat down on. He himself sat down on the chair opposing to mine.
"I think I know what you are here for", he said with confidence. "It was about the mansion isn't it?", he asked me. I just nodded, letting him know that he is correct.
"I am sincerely sorry, Ms. Smith, but as much as I wanted to tell you about it, I am forbidden to tell anyone any formation about the mansion. The spirits will come and haunt me to death if I'll share any information", he said. He look down but at the same time, terrified. I think he experienced what I experienced.
I may not have any information but I did not force Mr. Villamin. He sure looks terrified, and I don't want him to be in trouble because of my curiousity.
"You'll find the truth yourself someday, Ms. Smith", he said before I left. I just smiled and left. I was disappointed a little bit because I got none, and I was really excited to know the truth. But I guess time will come and I'll uncover the deep secret that lies beneath the mansion. Even the slightest and not important information, I'll find it.
I walk and came across a new opened coffee shop. I stopped by to have some coffee, what I experienced these past few days or months I think makes me stress. I just want to rest my mind even if its just for a minute or an hour. I think I deserve some rest too. I think I'll sleep at my aunt's place just for tonight. And tomorrow, I'll investigate about that damn mansion.
After I finished my coffee, I left the coffee shop and went to the bus stop to wait for the bus. The bus came really late and I got bored of waiting so I just took a taxi. When I got to my aunt's place, she was happy to see me. I hugged her and went inside.
"Can I sleep here just for tonight, Auntie?", I asked her while sitting on the couch and leaning my back to it. I took the remote from the table beside me and change the channel. Aunt Cherry sat at another couch opposite to mine.
"Why? What happened to your house?", she asked. I didn't face her as she asked the question and focused my eyes on the tv.
"I just miss my old room. You didn't change anything in there, right?", I asked and still not facing her.
