As they rested at the shore, the cool breeze from the bamboo trees made them fall asleep. Only Mata was awake treating his bruises, wondering the kind of journey they have embarked on àand all the mysterious experience they have been having. They passed a night in a lonely jungle at the foot of a hopeless sea. And there’s no assurance that the next day they will be returning home. They were not sure anyone could remember which direction leads home. Their mother will be worried as much as they are. Who knows what she will be thinking or doing? Definitely she won’t think positive because they have never stayed out so long and on this very trip they didn’t tell her it was going to take more than a day however, she must be worried. blames were imputed on those that brought the idea and also to themselves for accepting such a plan. They felt lost. Sometimes he would wonder if they will ever find their way home before death meet up with them. Their food too was remaining very small. “This two days feels like a month” Dylan said standing behind Mata, facing the woods. Mata sat In the white sand facing the sea, throwing pebbles in it but his mind was far into the world roaming over things. “I miss mom and Jennie” Dylan added. “You brought this idea” “No, Rickie did” “But you persuaded us” “Yes, that’s because it’s not a bad idea. It was for our good. It’s unfortunate it turned out this way. I never expected this” “Tomorrow we will try find our way home. Even with nothing” “Hey! Over here! Antelopes!” Nazi called them. He and Rickie were awake already and from their looks it seemed they have been awake for half an hour. They didn’t look dull as one who slept would look. “Wait! Don’t go after them” Dylan advised. Looking at how they were eating grasses feeling less concerned. “They will flee when they see us coming” “There are plenty of them” says Mata. “Calm down. I believe that ff the sea doesn’t favor us the forest will” Rickie said. They carried all the necessary items needed including a machete, spear and knives. They crouched and moved slowly but the animals were too vigilant. They sensed menace and dispersed. They went after them. It wasn’t a single direction the animals ran into therefore, they also got separated and each of them was determined not to miss his target. So that mindset made them go very deep into the forest. “Those things can run” Dylan said when he got tired of chasing thinking he was with somebody but looking around he saw no one. No sign anywhere. He started calling on his brothers but the forest remained lifeless unless for the birds which wouldn’t let him know whether his brothers were answering his call or not. It wasn’t getting funny anymore. No one on sight no voice to trace. Finding his brothers was becoming a serious case.
He started wandering in the bush looking for his brothers. He had a focus with no direction. “Where could they have been? Did those antelopes go with them? Those must be evil antelope sent to separate us” Dylan said after an hour of search. He was becoming anxious and tired. As he was going, behind him he heard dozens of birds fly from a tree in a rush as if they were being chased. He turned fast and headed the direction. Someone must be there. He went as fast as he could, on reaching there it was an elk standing, just staring at him and shortly it started walking towards him. Actually the giant animal wasn’t his fear but being alone in such a weird wilderness. He began to run, the animal went after him. He was very fast yet the tree-horned animal kept getting closer. The more he realizes it’s closeness the more he was terrified. An idea came to his mind that animals with hooves doesn’t climb trees. Immediately he leapt up to one of the tree. With fear he climbed very fast and was not stopping. As he was climbing he was thinking that what if the elk remains at the feet of the tree and refuses to go? he too will remain on the tree. Even with this thought he kept climbing with fright until he got to where he was certain to be safe. He looked down, the elk was not there. He spun around and saw it diminishing into the bush. As he was panting and resting he saw a boy in the bush, very far, wandering. That was surely his brother. But why just one? Where were two? He wondered. He tried calling but the figure couldn’t hear him. The trees waves away his voice. As he was still calling he started feeling sharp bites that were almost like stings at every part of his exposed body. He looked at the branches, every part of the tree was infested with black ants. How has he not been able to notice them until he got up there? He have never seen that type of ant. He became scared and tried to climb down. That was when he discovered the height he had climbed. He didn’t believe he got up there by himself. He was very far and going down was going to take much time and effort. The ants didn’t stop coming towards him. Their bite pains a lot that sometimes he almost free the branch. He couldn’t run from them for they were everywhere and wouldn’t stop coming to bite. The minutes he spent coming down, to him was like hours but on a normal expense it was half of what he spent going up. The ants did all they wanted to do with him before he could step down for as many as could enter his clothes at the course of escape were biting him relentlessly. As soon as he got down he started undressing himself quickly to shake them off. He have never been bitten by anything like this. The pain made him forget he saw his brother. He didn’t remember to go search for him. It was as he was resting, waiting for the pain to subside it came to his mind and that was after about thirty minutes, but then he didn’t remember the direction he saw him. He went close to the tree to mark the direction he was sitting but knowing where he was taking the view became more difficult than locating which direction he saw his brother. He just chose a particular direction and ran off. He would side his mouth with his hands and call loudly. But there was no echo, no answer neither was there a sign of anyone until after about thirty minutes he started hearing voices calling from another side. He too, his shouts became louder and more frequent. He traced the voice until he got to where it was coming from. It was Nazi and Mata. “Where is Rickie?” he asked impatiently. “We don’t know. You can’t find him too?” Rickie must be the person he saw while on the tree. Finding him will be very difficult now. He felt like crying for him. Rickie was his closest brother. There was something stronger connecting them. Even people says that. That they both have one face, resembling their mother and does things same way. “Why is your face so rough?” “Not only my face. Look at my hands and legs. If I remove my clothes you will see them all over” “What is that?” they asked. He began to narrate his experience after which they brought theirs up.
