Dinner was ready. Patresiah's parents were already awake after a short rest. They were tired from the long trip. Patresiah was in the bathroom, showering with Zhian. "Honey, hurry up! I need to shower too," Mom called from outside the bathroom. "Just a minute, Mom! I just finished bathing Zhian. I'm just started talking bath" Patresiah yelled back. "Okay, I'll wait for you," Mom replied. While waiting for Patresiah, her parents talked and cuddled. A few minutes later, her Grandma knocked on the door and her mom opened it. "Yes mama" her mom said. "The food is ready," Grandma said. "Everyone's waiting." "We'll be down soon. I'll take a bath after Patresiah is done," Mom replied. "Okay, we'll wait downstairs," Grandma said. "Yeah sure" she replied. Zhian and Patresiah were finished showering. Her mom get her towel to take a shower, but Dad said he wanted to shower first so her mom went downstairs to the family bathroom while her dad used their private bathroom. While waiting for her parents, Patresiah was drying Zhian's fur with a hairdryer. Suddenly, someone knocked on the door. She opened it, still holding the hairdryer. It was Grandma again. "Hi grandma wanna come in?" She ask with a smile of her face. "No thanks palangga her, pakisabi sa mom mo na nag-antay na lahat sa baba". She said. Patresiah didn't understand Tagalog so her grandma repeated herself slowly. "Pa ki sabi sa mom mo na kain na tayo ha una na Ako langga" "Okay, Grandma. We'll come down soon," Patresiah said. After Grandma left, Patresiah finished drying Zhian's fur while she mumbled to herself, "I don't want to go back there. I couldn't understand them anyway Why are they not speaking English?" I understand you better than them zhian, even though you're a dog. How can I make friends here if there's a language barrier? This is so confusing! I'll just focus on you, Zhian. My head is spinning trying to figure out what they're saying. While Patresiah was dressing Zhian, her dad finished showering. He said he wanted to go home. "Why, honey? What's wrong?" Dad asked. "Daddy, I don't understand them. Even Grandma. She just left, and I couldn't understand her. It's like she's angry." "Honey, you just need to adjust. I'll tell them to speak slowly since you're confused," Dad said. "Thank you, Daddy. You always find a way to make me happy," she said, hugging her dad. "Didn't I tell you before, I'll do anything to make you happy?" her father asked. "Yes, Dad, that's why I love you so much," she said, smiling sweetly. "But I don't want you wishing for bad things for yourself. Is that clear, honey?" he asked her. "Yes, Dad, I understand. No worries, Daddy. I'll be good, no matter what. I love you," she said, kissing his cheek. While Richard was comforting his daughter, Amelia entered, saying, "love it! My lil family are so sweet! I love you both. I'll just change clothes here because we have to go; they're waiting downstairs." "She's a little sad because she didn't understand their language," her husband said. "Honey, smile. That's okay. At least you were honest." Her mom said in a lovely voice. "They haven't eaten yet?" her husband asked. "No, they waited for us. You know how Filipinos culture are when it comes to food," she replied. "Mom, can you bring Zhian?" Patricia asked. "Yes, honey. She already has a seat there. My mom went to the venue earlier while I was showering because they were already waiting us. I told her to get chair for Zhian, your dad, and then you." After Amelia changed clothes, they went downstairs to eat. When they reached the table they great everyone and almost all of Amelia's siblings and her parents were offering food to Patricia. "Thanks everyone, thanks Mamala, Papalo, and Aunts. There's so much food, I can't finish it all!" she said while smiling. "Kain ka Ng madami lang para mabusog ka Wala to sa new Zealand" her grandma said. "She didn't understand you, Mama, because you were talking too fast," her dad said. "Para ba Yan sigi nalang di Kuna bilisan" she responded. "You should speak English, Ma," Amelia's older sibling said. "Oh, dudugo ilong ko nyan kakaluka hahaha!" her grandma said jokingly. While they were eating, her aunt asked, "Don't you have any plans to study here, Patricia?" Amelia's older sister said. "No, I want to continue my study at New Zealand. I don't have any friends here," she replied. "My son wants to be your friend, but he's too shy to talk to you. Look at him, he's so quiet! Hahaha. He's in his own world when you're around." Said of Amelia's second older sister. "Hahaha, but I'm a good friend, right, Daddy?" "Yes! wait. What's your name?" her dad asked Amelia's second older sister's son. "Brian, Kuya," Amelia's second older sister's son replied. "Brain you can get a long with patresiah if you like no worries she's not grumpy" patresiah's dad said. "Yeah that's right" her mom agreed. "Eh bakit Sila lang dapat Silang lahat para matutuo SI patresiah mag bisaya o Tagalog" here grandpa said while continue eating. "Luh naka sabot d I ka pa? Hahaha" Amelia joke her papa. "Oo eh langan bright pako Kay sa ni mama nmo awa ero ni patresiah kasabot Gani niya Ako pa" he answered and her wife slap her while laughing. "Pag hilom pa dunlan ta hahaha" her wife said, akuah nani inyong ero lang." She added. But patresiah didn't understand her so her mom response and said " gidala JD n niya ma wa niya byaeh mao nay always niyang gina dala² hahaha di JD na niya e hatag." "Mangayo pakag ero dli mana kasabot ug bisaya" her papa joke at her wife. "Hahaha kuntrabida kaau ambot lang JD hahahah" she said while laughing hard. As she watched them she keep smiling even she didn't understand, she was smiling and laugh with them too because of their action, reaction , and laughters, as she's watching how happy they were while eating, Patricia thought to herself, "So this is what it feels like to be together." She felt a sense of joy and wished it could always be like this.
