Chapter 8: The Truth.

Following the officer with my hands cuffed, another officer was behind me, probably making sure that I don't try any stupid tricks. They took me to a dead end, a door, opening the door, I was directed to step inside, obeying their instructions, I did as ask, my hands still in pain because of what Drew did to them, almost crushing them to pieces.
It was a dividend, a glass dividing the two ends of the room, I have seen this place quite a few times in movies, so I did know how it operates. The policeman that had followed me in stayed by the door, while I moved close and sat down on the chair, the glass dividing me and my lawyer who has come to visit me on my first day in here, maybe to say his goodbyes because I possibly might not survive the pressure of prison.
“ I never knew that one can get a visit on his first day in here....”
I said to him, the telephone placed in my ear, as well as him holding his across the glass division. He put his hand into his suit pocket as if he was trying to show me something. “ Let's just say this thing can get you a pass in most situations.....” he said, his ID placed on the glass so that I can see them clearly.
“ Yeah....” I said, nodding my head, he's my lawyer and can possibly get the opportunity to see me on most cases than my family members, if they're ever going to come see me.
“ I could also say it's because I told them it was really urgent, something that involves your law case, that's why I probably get the pass....”
I know we don't have a lot of time in our hands, and the fact he wasn't diving to the point despite having something to probably keep him occupied shows that he's here with a bad news, I can feel that. “ So can you tell me why you're here?....” I requested, both of us looking into our eyes, probably trying to confirm whether I am sure about my request.
“ Okay here's the thing Jerome, I think it's about time we abandon the case, since it's no longer in our favor, all I could request from you is you spend your months here patiently and get ready to dive on into life on your release.....”
“ What the fuck do you mean?, We should be fighting this, not running away from it, you can't just tell me to abandon my family, to abandon my children and relax here, you should be the one encouraging me, not pulling me down, do you think I am on vacation here?.....”
I freaked out on him, the phone placed on my ear but I was pointing at him with my index finger as I speak, he just looked down, released a deep sigh before getting his head back up to look at my face.
“ About that.... That's why I'm here.”
At least, now he's about sharing the information that got him here, the fact that I am here is a damage of its own, as well as the struggles on how to get back my family that seems like they doesn't want me in the picture again, having another damage wouldn't be that bad, would it?.
He was still finding it hard, what's he doing?, He's making me desperate and curious, he was not always like this, he's a very close friend of mine and we share stuff, we speak formally with each other, but his actions now is giving me that creepy vibe like this is really too strong for me, but I'm never going to leave without knowing it, would I?.
“ Daniel and Marie ain't your kids.....”
He said it, sounds more like he threw it away from his mouth, spatting it out like it was a red hot sauce in his mouth. I automatically went silent, my lips were wide and separated, but there was no word coming out of it, my heartbeat was increasing as each hand on the clock ticks, I was staring him into his eyes, his eyes never departing my face like he was trying to console me with those stare.
When I could no longer hold the stare, I looked down, looking towards the floor, averting his look. I can now feel the pounding, it was hitting hard on my chest, sounding loud in my ear and feeling like an electric shock in my brain.
“ Are you alright?..... Please answer me Jerome, don't sit silent, are you still there?.”
He pressed. I can hear his voice, but I just can't find words of my own, the shock was too strong that it triggered something in my brain, he was still there, his free palm placed on the glass dividing us as the other hand was holding onto the telephone. I already left my telephone to fall, standing up and trying to stand on my feet. I can see his lips in motion, speaking something, but because of the glass was sound proof, I can't hear anything coming out from his mouth. I can see the policeman behind him, rushing to grab him from behind as he started struggling just to stick around, just to get over to me.
I was trying hard to hold onto myself, the voice in my head trying to encourage me, just overlook this Jerome, try to get past this, you're more than this Jerome, you know you're, find a way to get past this tunnel, there's always a light at it's end, just try not to let go.
I was now facing the door, the cuffs still on my wrist, my head becoming heavy for me to carry, like my brain was foggy and was trying to shut down on its own. All I did was try to take a step forward and I saw myself on the floor, being rolled to lie on my back, the figure of the policeman has already become blurry, before I passed out.
