After fifteen years... Emilie Albreicht took a deep calming breath as she awaits for the facilitator to reveal the last word that she needs to spell out. If she gets the right spelling, she will be this year's grand winner of Saint Therese's High Spelling Bee. She has been the winner of this prestigious Spelling Bee ever since her freshmen year, and now that she's in her last year of high school, she wants to win the grand price again. She doesn't want to mess up with her winning streaks, so that's why there's no room for any mistakes. Emilie lets out a small smile towards her parents, Mr. Emmett and Mrs. Lara Albreicht. Her two sisters are also at the event. Her family looked so excited and hopeful, while her sisters are giving her a "thumb's-up" sign. Her parents' and her fraternal sisters's support means a lot to her. They are her number one supporter and she feels more confident. "Here is the final word that you need to spell, Miss Albreicht... The word is--- "Staphylococci." the contest facilitator announced. "Can you please repeat the word?" Emilie inquired. "Staphylococci." "May I please have the definition?" Emilie did a follow-up question. "A genus of non-motile spherical eubacteria that occur singly, in pairs or tetrads and comprise a few parasites of skin and mucous membranes..." the facilitator gave her the definition of the word. Emilie tries to think hard, and after a few seconds, she looked at the audience. "S-t-a-p-h-y-l-o-c-o-c-c-i... Staphylococci." she spelled the word, in a confident manner. "That is correct!" The 10-something audience, including the other contestant's family and her own started clapping. Emilie lets out a big smile towards her own family who were all cheering and clapping for her. "Congratulations, Miss Emilie Albreicht, you are Saint Therese's Spelling Bee Winner for 2023!" the emcee happily announced on the microphone. The school's staff gave her a medal, a trophy, and the reward money as part of her prize. While they are doing a photo op, she then realized that only few Theresian students watched the Quiz Bee. And because of that, Emilie forces herself to smile at the camera, eventhough she's feeling disappointed and irritated. She should be in the clouds, while feeling happy because she won the History Olympiad Quiz Bee, but only five people from her class attended the program, much to her annoyance. She is utterly frustrated because only five people from her class supported and cheered for her! Emilie already has an idea on where her classmates are. Today is the the Inter High Basketball Finals, and she's betting on her money that all of the female population in their school are watching the basketball game. She can imagine that all of the seats inside their school gymnasium are all occupied. Once their program officially ended, she ask for her parents' permission to go somewhere. And once they said yes, she immediately walks away while carrying her trophy, and she's wearing a gold medal on her neck. She grimly marches towards the gymnasium to check all the students there... "Why did the basketball match and the Spelling Bee has to happen at the same time? And what the heck is so special with this basketball game that everyone's going crazy about it?!" she whispered to herself, while looking and feeling irritated. She quickly enters the school gymnasium, and she was suddenly startled by the loud screams coming from the students, especially girls. Emilie was able to find a seat and she decided to watch the basketball game. She doesn't have any idea about this sport, but based on the scoreboard, their school is way ahead compared to their competitor. Her school, St Therese's High is at 85, while St. Matthew's School is at 70. Her eyes followed Jayden Doe's every move. He is the Star Player of the basketball team... She held her breath in suspense when Jayden did a little jump, as he tries to shoot the ball unto the ring. And just like magic, it went perfectly inside the basket! And because of Jayden's three-pointer shot, everyone went crazy again. The girls were screaming at the top of their lungs as if there's no tomorrow... Every audience are looking so excited because of what Jayden did. She can hear the girls chanting his name, and the audience roared with so much excitement. And it made her more annoyed. Because of Jayden's three-pointer shot, their school's score went up again, and in the end, their basketball team won the Inter High Basketball Competition. It was almost like a sure win... She can't really explain why, but she just couldn't take her eyes of him. They've been in the same section since their freshmen days, up until now. Emilie considers him as her rival, especially when it comes to their school's academic rankings. Jayden became the President of their class, and at the same time, he was on the top rank. And when they finally reached their second year in highschool, she became the Class President, and she became the number one student in their class. And now that they are on their last year of high school, she can no longer allow this man to beat her. She will do everything and anything within her powers to defeat Jayden, and she will definitely emerge as the Valedictorian in their batch. And that's why she needs to study extra hard. Going back to Jayden, she is also fully aware that almost all the female population at their school has a huge crush on him. Well, it's hard for her to admit it directly, but Jayden is a real looker. He's tall, dark, and handsome. In addition to that, he's really smart and extremely athletic, that's why lots of girls are attracted to him... But she's very lucky because she is not affected by his charm. That's why she can live a peaceful and stress-free life. Her train of thoughts stops in a halt when she heard everyone shouting Jayden's name. Emilie saw many people going towards Jayden to congratulate him. And all of the girls are looking at him with so much admiration in their eyes... Emilie wanted to cry because of too much annoyance.
