Chapter 13: Field trip

Today is the day! I waited for Annie to finish changing inside the bathroom while I tied my hair into a braid before checking my bag once again to make sure that I don't forget anything.
I also brought a small sling bag to put some emergency things on because I can't carry my heavy back pack anywhere.
Once I was done, Annie walked out the bathroom, just in time. The two of us walked down the cafeteria to have our breakfast, Sam and Liz was already there but Loraine was no where to be found.
"Where's Loraine?" I asked them.
"She's with her other classmates, they were talking about some project" Sam answered.
"I see" I nodded understandingly before falling in line to get our meal.
"Oh that reminds me, I need to go, I need to catch up with Luhan for our project" she suddenly exclaimed.
"Well sure, make sure to eat breakfast" I tap her back, she nod her head obediently before running off.
I released a deep sigh before taking my tray to our table, the two look so tired yet they are still smiling while chatting to each other.
I sat on the other side and started to eat while listening to their conversation.
"There's 12 girls and boys and we only have 8 tents, therefore, we should seperate into 3's" Liz concluded, how come I didn't know about this?
"Who told you that?" I asked with my eyebrows raised.
"Icer, he emailed me last night while I was checking my things" she replied, I nodded.
"Anyways, we'll still be working with our partners on research so we can finish up our activities, James and I also discussed a few things so I bet we can still have a fun time before we go back here" she finished her speech.
"I'll deffinately finish our activities in no time, I miss having fun!" Sam cheered, I chuckled and finished my food.
We still have an hour before leaving so we decided to go back to our classroom to meet up with everyone, Troy was checking the attendance, the three of us signed over our names indicating that we are already here.
I sat on my seat and set my back pack on my desk, argh! I haven't asked Liz about the games that they approved, it's kinda unfair, Ace, Icer, Liz and James were the ones who planned the whole trip- they are literally showing off to the teachers to get the bighest rank, I'm not lossing!
"Tik tok people the bus is here, is everyone present?" the teacher knocked on the open door.
"Yes sir, alright everyone form two lines, one for the girls and the other one for the boys" James intructed and we followed it immediately.
"Everyone is present, let's go" Troy said and we all walked out the classroom.
The bus was already in front of the main building and our teachers from both science and research are there together with a few school staffs to watch over us.
I turned my phone off to save some battery, my phone is also waterproff so I don't have to worry about it getting dropped by the ocean or spilled by water.
One by one of us started to climb up the bus, I chose to sit on the back part and while walking towards there I bump on Sam purposely making her sit with Icer, she glared at me but I gave her my innocent face before mumbling a simple 'sorry' before taking a seat next to the window.
"Mind if I sit here?" I look over my left and saw Ace, I nod then he took my backpack then settled it on the compartment on top of our seat.
"Sorry, it's heavy" I apologized.
"Well girls are pretty much materialistic so no problem" he smirked.
"I'm not, my bag is full of emergency thingy's not make ups" I rolled my eyes on him then he put up his hands for surrender.
"Alright sorry" he chuckled and turn to Pierce who is sitting with Liz.
"Hey Pierce, you're really not saying goodbye to Xiena?" He asked him.
"I don't care about her" he coldly said and Ace sighed.
"Normally it's his fault why she is distant towards him" I placed my head over my palm.
"He's a playboy, what should I expect?" Ace groaned, I smirked.
"Not bad, you're concern about other people now, wow dude you're upgrading" I teased, he glared at me.
"Not because I'm being too generous doesn't mean I like you, I still hate you to the bones Belfour remember that" he cooly brushed his hair with his hand and I clicked my tongue.
"Ouch, okay fine" I dramatically said and look out the window then I heard him chuckle deeply.
Ahh so manly! Why does he do it better than Icer? A lot of girls could have faint by just hearing him laugh- he may be a bully but seeing him this way- I found it childish but I still prefer this side of him than being a snob.
After a while the bus moved, I look at everyone, they are all excited and stuff. I wanted to tell my cousins about this but I considered no because who knows? Maybe they'll fly all the way here to watch over me?
I yawned and decided to take a nap for a bit. I suddenly woke up when I felt the bus driving over some rough road making my head bump on the window, I hissed and rubbed my eyes.
Everyone was starting to wake up as well, I look outside the window and saw the beach and a lot of trees beside the road, I guess we woke up just in time.
"Ooh sweet, that's where we'll be camping" Ace pointed out towards a distance where a big house on top of the hill is built and below it is the beach where we'll be setting up our tents.
"Who's house is that?" I asked him.
"It's a rest house, the academy owns that, the headmaster said that we can use it in case of emergencies" he answered then the bus stopped.
"I'll carry your things, you head out first" he grinned.
"Why thank you mr. Salazar" I said in a joking way while rolling my eyes.
The teachers are not with us because they took a private car with them for emergency purposes like we need to be taken to the hospital or stuff like that.
Ace stood up first so I can walk over the exit, Liz immediately clung into my arms while Sam was glaring at me from the other side, I gave her a peace sign before hoping off the bus.
The sound of the waves crashing through the surface can be heard from up here, we still need to walk down the hill to get over the camping site.
The cool breeze was blowing a few strands of my hair away from my face as I witness how the birds fly over the horizon, the sun is also shinning brightly since it's still morning base on my waterproof watch, so we still have time to prepare our tents and catch something to eat for dinner.
"That was so not funny Cursetine!" Sam complained then Liz grinned.
"You enjoyed it Samantha I can tell that" I stated then her cheeks turned pink as she shook her head hesterically.
"Okay students let's head down and start our activities after settling the tents" our teacher called and we nod.
I wonder what's taking Ace so long, I excuse myself to the girls and went to look for him- he didn't toss my bag to the sea right? I frowned and walk back to the bus.
I jaw dropped when I saw him and Icer glaring at each other while arguing over my back pack, Pierce and Troy on the other hand are minding their own bussinesses, are they gonna just let these two fight?
I rushed over their place and took my bag, catching both their attention.
"I'll take it, thanks" I flashed a shy smiled before running back to Liz and Sam.
The two looked at me as if I did something wrong- well I didn't but those two did, I ignored them and walked down the hill first, the pathway is steep so we all took our time to look for something to grab on and it's really wasting a lot of our time.
"Anyone got a rope there?" I asked them.
"Well I have one but it's not long enough, why?" one of our classmates answered.
"Anyone else? Can I borrow it for a minute?" I asked once more and Liz handed me her rope, I also took the other rope from our classmate and tied the two ropes together.
I made sure that the knot won't break before tying it on a tree before throwing it down, I pulled the rope to test it's capasity before turning to them, they have this impress look on their faces like I'm an alien or something, again, I came from a military family and camping requires a survival mind and class which I learned from my family.
"Okay, I'm not sure if the rope could hold on so many people so let's do it by 4's" I instructed and they seperated their selves.
"Ooh, nice thinking- but how are we gonna get the rope back?" Liz asked.
"I'm going down last" I winked at her and she gave me a horrified look.
"Now, now, Lizelle Quin Zamora, your turn" I push her towards the rope and she had no other choice but to hold onto it.
"Are you sure about that? We can stay here to untie the rope" Icer asked, I shook my head.
"I can do parkour, no worries, you guys need to prioritize yourselves sometimes" I spoke unwillingly to accept the offer.
"But-"
"I'll be with you in 1 minute, if I still haven't got there then you can fetch me up here" I told him, he sighed before giving ms a serious look.
"One minute" he repeated and I continiously nod my head.
I watch him hold onto the rope and skipped down the hill, well I can't help but getting worry as well, I'm the last one to go down and what if someone is going to kidnap me once again?
"I'll accompany you" Ace suddenly spoke on my other side.
"Oh come on people, I can handle myself" I insisted.
"You look pale just now, stop acting brave enough and let me accompany you" he said seriously, I sighed and nodded.
Once the rope fell- meaning that the last person already got down, I untied the rope and Ace was the one who carried it for me while we jogged down the steep hill.
I skipped from tree to tree to avoid getting slipped, I jumped on a bigger tree and manage to step on it's large roots then Ace suddenly slid down pass me, my eyes widened.
"ACE!" I exclaimed.
"You're boring, come on!" He yelled, I sighed in relief, I thought something happened to him.
I slowly step off the roots and slid down until I reach the bottom, I held onto a tree to stop myself from sliding before walking towards where the others are.
"You should change you clothes" I laughed at Ace, his clothes are dirty and yet he still manage to look so handsome, Icer grinned.
"Is rolling down the hill part of the parkour you were saying?" Sam chuckled.
"Shut up Morgan" Ace hissed and walked away with Icer tailing behind him.
I settled my bag on the side for a moment and sat on the sand, later on, the tents were distributed to us, we immediately fixed our tent the same goes for the others.
"We need your rope Liz" I told her, she nod and tied the ends of the tent to the ground then we're done.
"Attention please! Okay students once you're done with your tents, kindly fix your things as well before heading out to get some food for your lunch and dinner" one of the teachers said.
I didn't hesitate to throw my bag inside the tent we'll be sleeping in and rushed over the forest, there's no way I'm catching the fish on the sea, they smell disgusting.
What should I get? I look around to see some fruit bearing trees like banana trees, coconut trees, mango trees, there's also a lot of berry bushes and poison ivy, great, welcome to survival land people.
"Woah, there's a lot of food here" James suddenly appeared with his two other friends.
"Careful, poison ivy is around" I grinned and took my multi-purpose knife on my sling bag and carefully walk past the poison ivies until I get into the berry bush.
"It's black berries, anyone got something to put on these treats?" I asked them.
"I have a spare bag on the tent, let me get it" one of them said and dashed off.
The four of us gathered some berries, mangoes, bananas and a lot more fruits before heading back to the camp.
"Woah! Where did you guys ran off to?" Sam cheered when she saw the food we were carrying.
"At the forest obviously" I chuckled and turn to Icer's group who just came back as well.
"We found a hot spring behind the hill we stopped by a while ago" Troy said.
"Guys! We caught 15 fishes" Liz interrupted.
"That's okay, we brought fruits" I said.
"Wow, that was fast, anyways, lunch will be up soon, do you guys have any lighter or something to produce fire?" She asked.
"I have a matchstick on my bag, here take this to the table" I handed her the green mangoes I took earlier and walk towards our tent.
When I got my matchstick, I helped the others on making the fire to cook the fish they caught.
"Where did you guys get the salt?" I asked.
"Sea water of course, Death put up some tray and settled a magnifying glass on top of it to dry the water immediately and make salt" one of my classmates answered.
How impressive of him, I smiled quietly and went on checking the others, some of them are not use to this things but they manage to learn how to adjust to the environment.
Well unlike our past field trips, we would always go through hotels near our activity areas and everything is provided to us so I'll say that this is kinda new to everyone.
"D*mn it I forgot my tumbler" I heard someone said.
"That's bad, I also can't share my water to you cause it's just enough for me for three days" the other one said, I frowned mentally.
Sometimes, I kinda regret having a very soft spot for them, I really can't help myself but to help them even if it means I'll get tired.
"Anyone of you who knows how to climb trees?" I yelled, everyone stopped working and all of them turned to Pierce.
"What?" He asked irritately.
"You like climbing trees" Troy smirked and he groaned.
"Great! Come on!" I dragged him towards where the coconut trees are found.
"I need 4 coconuts" I told him.
"And why should I follow you?" He complained irritately.
"Would you rather see your classmates gets dehydrated?" I asked him seriously.
"That's their problem, it's not like this field trip is planned instantly" he argued back.
"Get up there now and don't try my patience" I said calmly.
"And if I don't?" I smirked, I smiled brightly and st*bbed the tree next to me.
"Now I can't pull it off" I mumbled embarassingly and pulled harder but it won't budge.
"You still have time to change your mind" I told him, he sighed and started to climb the tree.
I took my time pulling the knife off the tree then the coconut's suddenly came falling, he got five, well that's good, now we have more coconut water to share to everyone.
At last I finally pulled my knife off the tree, which really hurt my hand so he carried all five coconut's alone while we walk back to the camp.
It's a good thing that James brought a bigger knife so it's easier for us to cut some holes on the coconut and pour it's water on a pitcher, it's so refreshing actually.
Everyone thanked us- mostly Pierce for saving the day and I rolled my eyes, if it wasn't for me, you guys would have died in heat and dehydration. I walked back to my tent to fetch a few snacks of mine, I closed the tent to make sure that no one would see me eating my snacks.
I should be selfish in terms like this, the calories of the snacks I brought is no joke so I only ate half of it so avoid feeling too much hunger because we won't be having rice for three days and we only get to eat fish, other sea foods and fruits.
After a while Sam called me for lunch, great timing, I hurried out the tent and walk over the long table where everyone is gathered.
We prayed to bless the food we have today before eating up with our bare hands, we did wash our hands earlier so no need to worry about germs.
"This may be survival, but I kinda enjoy it" Liz smiled.
"I know right? This is worth remembering" Sam chuckled while peeling off the banana.
"Oi! The fish! Icer, what the heck?!" James suddenly exclaimed, we all look over the grill and laughed when the fish got burnt because Icer was too busy eating and didn't notice the burning fish.
"This is so funny" Troy took out his camera and started recording Icer who is currently running away from James who is holding the burnt fish.
"You eat this you little sh*t, you burnt this!" James scolded him with his filipino accent making us laugh harder.
Well it seems like everyone is showing their true colors because of this field trip, I look over Ace and caught him looking at me, I choked on my food and Sam immediately rubbed my back and Liz handed me a cup of coconut juice.
Once my system calmed, I look over Ace and he's laughing so hard but eventually stopped when he saw me glaring at him.
Evening came, we just finished having our dinner and we are gathered once again infront of the campfire because of the cold night breeze, I warmed up my hands before hugging my jacket to myself and left the campfire.
I walked towards the shore to spot an unexpected person laying on the sand while looking up the stars in the dark pitch sky.
"Leave" he coldly said.
"Woah there, I thought you were dead" I chuckled he sighed and look at me.
"Why are you here?" He asked calmly, it's really soothing and it warms my soul out of nowhere.
I sat next to him, keeping my hand inside the pocket of my jacket to keep them warm, he also sat up and both of us stayed silent.
"I witnessed another Twilight earlier" I hummed and look up the sky, it's pitch black the moon is shadowing over the ocean and it was a moment to remember.
"Twilight... Do you want to witness another one?" He asked, I turn to him with a smile and nod my head continiously, he chuckled.
The academy has a lot of buildings around it so it's almost impossible to witness the darkness taking over the daylight.
"Alright, let's meet at the back of the rest house tomorrow before sun down" he said before standing up.
"Okay" I muttered in a low voice.
He then offered his hand to me and I accepted it, the warmth of his palm pressed against mine feels like I'm safe at all cost, he pulled me up and I brushed off the sand on my shorts.
"I'll wait for you then" he grinned and walked away leaving me flustered.
Death Jaxen Ace, what are you doing to me?
