Chapter ninety four

While waiting for Eddy to meet me up at the bar, after Stacy left some minutes ago, I took my phone and decided to surf the internet instead of looking around as people came in and out of the bar.
I got interested in a page I saw and started following up immediately. I saw some interesting posts in the same that got me intrigued and took my mind off whatever was going on in the bar at that time.
Some minutes after, my phone rang and when I checked the incoming call, I saw that it was Eddy calling. I picked up the call and spoke.
"Hey buddy. What's up? Have you changed your mind about coming here already? I teased.
"I'm outside the bar already. Just parked my car, I'm heading inside now. Where exactly are you? Eddy asked.
"On your right, from the entrance. At the extreme to be precise. Just walk down when you come in and you will see me sitted, I'm on a blue shirt."
"Okay, copy that. You will see me inside very soon." Eddy replied, after which he ended the call.
I looked up to see him walking towards me, looking all gloomy like he had a serious issue with someone on his way here.
"Hey Eddy. What's up with you? I asked, getting up from my seat. We shook hands warmly as old buddies do, before I sat down back and he joined me also.
"Men, I am okay. I see you ordered a cool wine here. Are you sure you can drink all that up?
"I guess that's why you are here. By the way, that aside. You don't look okay. What's up?
"I messed up big time bro. I really messed up so much. I don't know what to do about it. I'm confused, totally confused." Eddy answered in sorrowful manner.
"What's the problem? What happened? I asked, now curious and concerned to know what he was talking about, but was not so serious about it.
Eddy wasn't the kind of person to always show his emotions, even to me as his best friend per say. Now, it is so obvious that he is not alright, so I know that it must be a big deal.
"What I talked to you on phone about." Eddy said, frowning at me.
"I don't remember, you know I was actually talking with someone when you called, so I can't really say that I was focused on what you were saying." I answered, trying to excuse myself and at the same time not let him get annoyed over it.
"Really? Eddy said, giving me this ridiculous look of disappointment.
"It won't be bad if you atleast remind me okay. Tell me, what exactly is the problem? I asked, this time no longer jokingly.
"It's about my wife." Eddy answered in despair.
I looked at him closely and I noticed that he was actually telling the truth.
"Eddy, what happened? I asked suddenly. Realising that two shits happened in our family just in one night. Now, I'm wondering if it was only coincidence, or it was master planned by someone.
"Well, I know I fucked up. Yeah, I really did fuck up. I don't know what came over me. I just acted like a fool and now I'm regretting it." Eddy confessed almost amidst tears.
"You are still not telling me what is going on? How do you expect that I know without telling me anything? I complained when he refused to open up to me.
He bowed his head like he was ashamed of whatever he was done, before he started to speak up.
"I fought with Jessica this night. We have never fought before, but we did today and It was about Juwie, the nurse lady I met some months back." Eddy answered, his head still bowed.
"You are kidding right? I asked, looking intently at him. Then, I knew he wasn't kidding at all. "Are you being serious right now? Come on man! So why did you two fight huh?
"Well, uhm. My phone was ringing earlier today, yeah. Jess went ahead to get the phone for me. Unfortunately, it was she calling me. Jessica saw it, and got pissed off at the moment. Started questioning me, asking who she was and why I saved her name that way."
"How did you save her name? What did you use to save it on your phone? I asked.
"That's not the point. I have never seen Jessica get annoyed like she was today. I know we haven't been in very good terms lately, but she doesn't get so angry. She was furious and I couldn't stay in the house again." Eddy continued to explain.
"Man! To be honest, I really don't know what to say to you. But then, this nurse lady you're talking about, did anything happen between you two? You know what I'm talking about.
He didn't hesitate to answer. "No no, not yet. I just made it look like uhm, I was the good guy who hardly have time to play around, but mindful of business. I know that was a risk I displayed there, but she is a nice girl and I couldn't resist her." Eddy answered in details.
"You couldn't resist her, but you did same to your own legal wife! Eddy, what is wrong with all of you"
"Yeah, I know that was a very very crazy thing I did. I couldn't help myself and now I'm in two trouble. I just don't know what to do."
"As far as you admitted that you didn't do anything with her, that's safer. It would have been worse if you had something with her. Personally, if I was Jess and you did that to me, I won't forgive you."
"Yeah, I know. You have sounded that in my head time without number and I haven't forgotten it either, so don't bother so much about it."
"Oh I see. I wonder why you didn't remember tt when you first went to meet the girl." I scoffed.
"Come on man!
"So about this nurse lady, do you like her? Do you think you have feelings for her? Like you do your wife?
"I like her and I think I kinda have feelings for her. But, I haven't told her that though. So, uhm, does that mean I'm safe for the meantime?
"For the meantime, yeah. Does this girl know that you're married? Is she aware that you are married with kids? I asked.
"She has no idea about that. I refused to tell her that. I was having issues with Jess almost every single day and I needed someone to lean to. I met her and loved her. I knew I was likely to lose her if I had told her about it. So, I felt it was better I kept mute."
"You only put yourself in more danger, you know that right? This nurse lady is not in love with the married Eddy, she is in love with the single guy." I paused to catch my breath before I continued. " What do you will happen when you lied to her from the beginning? I asked.
"I didn't lie to her. I just didn't tell her that I was married, but I didn't lie to her." Eddy defended.
"I wonder what the difference is. So, what will you do about it? I asked.
"Tonight? Nothing. I'll go find a place where I can lodge this night. I can't go back to that house, not tonight."
"Mmm. I think I support you on that. I will lodge with you then. That's a very great idea." I remarked.
"Lodge, with me? Why will you do that? Eddy asked, quite confused.
"It's a long story and I really don't wanna talk about it."
Eddy looked at me and frowned. "you find a way and say it however you wish. Come on, spill it out. What's going on?
Now, this time, it was my turn to feel awkward and dejected about my life. Though, I couldn't say any of it was my fault as I didn't do anything.
"I had a quarrel with Sonia this evening. We didn't exchange words though m something came up and I was forced to leave the house."
"What happened Alex? I am listening to you. Stop keeping me in suspense man, talk to me."
I sighed deeply and looked at him. How do I tell him that the children I call mine aren't mine at all and I have been deceived the whole time.
"I will tell you the full story later. But, I think Sonia has been cheating on me." I narrated.
"Oh my! That doesn't look true. Damn! Are you being serious right now?
I opened my mouth to reply, but then my phone started ringing. I took it and checked to see who it was.
"Talk of the devil." I said and dropped the phone back on the table.
"Sonia? Eddy asked.
"Exactly."
"Jessica doesn't believe that Sonia would ever cheat on you. I don't believe this story." Eddy said.
"It's not for you to believe. I don't care if you believe it or not. I just want the truth.
My phone rang again and it was Sonia again. I didn't pick up. I was not ready to answer or listen to whatever she had to say.
"I can't say anything now yet. But, pull yourself together. Perhaps, you will have to prove that yourself so as not to make mistake." Eddy advised.
I nodded intentionally whilst holding my phone at the edge of it, allowing it to dangle a bit.
That could happen, but not tonight. We will find a place to keep our head down for the night." I answered.
"Well, yeah."
My phone rang for the last time. I ended the call and sent her a "can't talk now" message and after that, she didn't call again.
