Chapter 26 - Ling Xiao’s birthday party
Sitting at her desk once again, Xing was trying to focus on work when her phone buzzed. "Beep-beep!"
Shifting her gaze, she ran her hands through her hair. "Why doesn't the world let me focus on the work?"
Extending her hand, she took the phone but frowned when she noticed the person's name who called her.
In a moment, her anger calmed down as she mumbled his name. "Xi Song?"
Swiping it right, she picked the call.
Xingyue: Hello, Xi Song?
Xi Song: Xingyue, are you free tonight?
Xingyue: Yes, why?
Xi Song: Ling Xiao wants to invite you to his birthday party. I can't refuse him.
A smile appeared on her lips as she thought of spending more time with him.
Xingyue: Sure. I'm up for the party.
Xi Song: Really? Well, then can you help me with something?
Xingyue: What is it?

While holding two cups of coffee in her hands, Xingyue went to Xia Na and handed her a cup. "What are you doing, Xia Na?"
Smiling at her, she replied. "Nothing much. I'm researching a doctor's life."
"Well, are you free tonight?"
Clueless, she shifted her gaze to Xingyue and asked. "Umm... Yes, why?"
"Will you come with me to a party tonight?"
Her eyebrows furrowed as she crossed her hands. "And why will I come with you?"
"Just me and Tang Xue are going. We don't want to leave you behind."
A smirk formed on her lips as she moved her head back to the computer. "It's your friend's party. Besides, I don't know that person. How can I tag along with you both?"
She knew it wasn't that easy to persuade Xia Na. And so she played her master trick.
With her puppy eyes, she held her arm, making her look into those desirous eyes. "Please, come with us... Please?"
No matter what Xia Na did, everything was ineffective in front of Xing's cute act.
Accepting her defeat, she agreed. "Okay! I'll come with you guys."
A smile appeared on her lips as she pulled Xia Na into a hug. "I love you for a reason."
Hugging her back, she replied. "I know. I love you too."
Finally, the mission of pursuing Xia Na was successful. Moving back to her desk, Xing took out her phone and messaged Xi Song.
Xingyue: Success.

Both were just looking at that phone with hopeful eyes. Hoping for a message from Xingyue.
While staring at the phone, Ling Xiao asked in his clumsy voice. "Xi Song, do you think I'll have a chance?"
"I believe in Xingyue, but not in you."
"You are such a devil."
Both were busy bickering when a notification sound came from the phone that gained their attention.
In an instant, the room became silent as both glanced at each other.
"Let's do it."
Xi Song took the phone in his hands, whereas Ling Xiao closed his eyes.
"Don't tell me it's a no."
His lips curved into a tiny grin as he tapped on his shoulder. "Ling Xiao, I think you have a chance."
Hearing this, he immediately opened his eyes, and Xi Song handed him the phone.
"Success?"
A smile reached his eyes as he jumped excitedly. "Yes!!"
"Don't be happy too fast. She only agrees to come, not to be your girlfriend."
All his happiness vanished in an instant as he glared at him. "You're truly not a good friend."

In the evening, all gathered at Ling Xiao's birthday party.
The golden light was shining all around. All seemed busy talking to each other.
Some enjoyed the wine, sitting in the bar area, while some on the dance floors may be seen dancing with their partners.
Glancing at his watch, Ling Xiao peeked at the entrance. "Where are these girls? Still not arrived."
"Let me call Xingyue then."
Taking his phone out as he was about to dial her number, they heard their voice coming from the entrance.
Shifting their gazes, they stared at them as they were looking exceptionally gorgeous tonight.
Xingyue was wearing a slinky black long-sleeved dress. She left her hair open as her light makeup was the finishing touch.
Whereas Xia Na wore a short wine-colored dress with a gold chain on her neck.
Their jaws were left open as it was the first time they noticed their beauty.

Glancing around, she finally shifted her gaze to Xingyue. "So... your friend is none other than Ling Xiao?"
"I just want you to accompany me, Xia Na."
Pouting with her lips, she rolled her eyes. "You betrayed my trust for him?"
"No way, Xia Na."
While they were talking, Tang Xue came in between them and calmed them down.
"Xia Na, we didn't lie to you. Ling Xiao is our friend. If we said his name, you wouldn't come."
"Huh? Why would I not come? We're not enemies. Just..."
Holding her hand, Xing cut her words off. "Okay, we got it. We will tell you next time. Now, let's go and enjoy."
Grabbing her other hand, both dragged Xia Na towards the guys.

Beaming a smile at Ling Xiao, Xingyue wished him.
"Happy birthday, Ling Xiao."
"Thank you so much, sister-in-law."
As they were talking, Tang Xue got a call. "Umm... Sorry guys, it's urgent."
Picking up the call, she walked away towards a corner while others remained there.
Ling Xiao was looking for a chance to talk to Xia Na. Xi Song noticed his hesitation and grabbed Xingyue's hand.
"Xingyue, let's go and have some drinks."
"But..."
Without even letting her say further, he dragged her towards the bar area while Xia Na and Ling Xiao stood there.
Scratching his earlobe, he tried to speak but failed. The awkwardness felt weird to Xia Na, and so she decided to break the silence.
"Happy Birthday, Ling Xiao."
"Huh? Uh! T-thank you, Xia Na. Well, would you like to have a drink with me?"
Flashing a tiny smile at him, she hummed. "Sure. Why not?"
Finally, he gasped in peace. Slowly, the awkwardness was starting to fade away as both seemed to enjoy each other's company.
