Chapter 22 Born between two Alphas

“Alpha?” He heard someone called him and he opened his eyes. He looked around and saw his mother was walking towards him. “Are you okay?” his mother asked when she reached him.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I was just thinking about Iris,” he replied.
His mother nodded, “Iris is a strong woman. She has been through so much, and she has been hurt so many times. She doesn’t trust easily, so you need to be patient with her,” she said.
Dawson nodded. “I know, mother. I’m trying my best to make her happy, but she always pushes me away.”
His mother put a hand on his shoulder, “You need to be more patient, my son. She will come to you when she is ready.”
Dawson sighed, “I hope so, mother. I don’t want to lose her.”
His mother smiled, “You won’t lose her if you keep trying. Just be patient and don’t give up on her.”
Dawson saw Iris running towards his mother’s room, looking devastated. He could smell the sadness in the air around her. He immediately followed her into his mother’s room.
“Iris?” he called her, but she didn’t respond to him. She was crying, her knees buckled, and his mother helped her sit on the couch. Iris was shivering and sobbing in his mother’s arms.
“What happened to you, child?” his mother asked her with concern.
“I… I…” Iris tried to say something, but she couldn’t form any words. She was too upset, and her voice was muffled by sobs. Dawson’s mother looked up at Dawson and motioned him to come closer.
“Dawson, come here, child,” she said. Dawson walked closer to Iris and his mother.
“Iris,” his mother called her again, “Tell me what happened.”
Iris tried to calm down, but her body was shaking. She wiped her tears with her hands. “They said… they said that Jonathan is dead,” she said between sobs.
Dawson’s heart sank. He couldn’t believe what he heard. He knelt in front of Iris. “What? Who said that?” he asked.
Iris looked at him with her teary eyes. “I’m sorry, Alpha, I’m so sorry,” she cried out. Dawson was confused. He didn’t understand why she was apologizing to him.
“Who told you that Jonathan is dead?” his mother asked her gently. Iris sniffled. “Someone in the pack. I was… I was walking in the garden. He approached me and told me that Jonathan died because of me.”
Dawson growled. He was furious. “Why would anyone say that? I’ll find out who that bastard is and punish him,” he said angrily.
“No, please don’t,” Iris begged. “He’s already suffered enough. He… he was the one who raised Jonathan for three years. He lost everything when Jonathan was gone.” Her voice was shaking.
Dawson’s mother held Iris’s hand. “What did you say, child? Who raised Jonathan?”
Iris wiped her tears. “I’m sorry. I didn’t want to lie to you. But… but I was scared,” she admitted. Dawson and his mother looked at each other with confusion.
Dawson felt like there was something off about the situation. “Iris, what are you saying? What do you mean someone raised Jonathan for three years?” he asked gently.
Iris took a deep breath. “I… I gave birth to Jonathan, but I couldn’t raise him. So I asked my friend to raise him for me.” Dawson and his mother were stunned. They didn’t expect to hear that from Iris.
Dawson was angry. “So Jonathan is your son?” he asked with a cold voice.
Iris nodded. “I’m so sorry. I lied to you and the Alpha. I didn’t want anyone to know. I… I was so ashamed,” she admitted.
Dawson stood up. He was furious. He felt betrayed by Iris’s lies. “You lied to me? You let me believe that you’re a widow?” he yelled.
Iris flinched. “I’m so sorry, Alpha,” she pleaded.
His mother stood up and held his arm. “Calm down, Dawson. Let her explain,” she said to him. Dawson took a deep breath and looked away. He was trying to calm down, but he was still furious. His mother turned to Iris. “Explain yourself, child. Why did you lie?”
Iris sniffled. “I was scared. I thought… I thought Alpha would hate me if he knew the truth. He would hate my son too,” she said.
His mother looked at her with confusion. “Why would Alpha hate you and your son? Because you have a child out of wedlock?” she asked.
Iris shook her head. “No, Alpha’s mother. It’s… it’s more than that.”
“Then explain it to us,” his mother urged.
Iris looked down. “Jonathan… he’s not an Omega. He’s an Alpha,” she admitted. Dawson looked at his mother in disbelief. He didn’t expect Iris to say something like that.
“What? How is that possible?” his mother asked.
“I… I don’t know,” Iris replied. “I was told that Alphas can only be born between two Alphas. But Jonathan is an Alpha, and his father… his father is an Omega.”
Dawson felt dizzy after he heard what Iris said. He sat on the couch beside his mother. He needed answers. “Iris, who is Jonathan’s father?” he asked.
Iris didn’t answer him. She kept her head down, avoiding eye contact. His mother noticed that Iris was scared. “It’s okay, child. We won’t hurt you or your son,” she assured.
Iris slowly lifted her head. Her eyes were filled with fear. “His father… was you, Alpha,”
Dawson didn’t know how to react. He looked at his mother for answers, but she seemed just as shocked as he was. “That’s not possible. How… how did it happen?” his mother asked.
