Chapter twenty
As entered the class, Alissa and her cousins where already sitting at their regular sit. She winked at me as I passed her making me to blush deeper.
“Good morning”. I greeted Ashley as I seat next to her.
“Morning to you too. What’s up with you smiling so much since yesterday. What are you not telling me?”. Ashley turned her attention fully on me.
“Nothing!”. I quickly said making it seems as though am telling a lie. Ashley gave me a look that says “I don’t believe you”.
“Am serious nothing for real!”. I defended myself trying to make my voice seems believable. I don’t want to tell her about Xander and I. Not that anything is going on between us.
“Yeah right and my name isn’t Ashley. Anyway, I saw the little exchange between you and Alissa do you mind explaining that?”. Ashley point out sounding like a mother who caught her child doing something wrong. I didn’t know that she saw when Alissa winked at me. Hopefully, she didn’t see Xander escorting me to the class.
“Miss Hudson and miss Johnson, do you mind telling the class what you guys are talking about?”. The chemistry teacher called out from the front of the class just as I was about to give Ashley answer. It was perfect example of save my the teacher although that means another trouble.
“We are sorry”. We both said at thesame time. And the teacher returned back to teaching after giving us a warning. I decided to pay attention this time around because I won’t want to go to the principal office just in my third week of school.
Soon it was break time and I was hoping for Ashley to forget about our conversation earlier on but I guess luck wasn’t on my side. Because as soon as we start down, she brought up the topic.
“So about what we discussed earlier on”. Ashley blinked her eyes at me.
“Hm? What discussion?” I tired to pretend like I don’t remember
“Haha! That’s not funny at all. Anyway since you decide to act like someone who is suffering a from a lost memory, am talking about the unspoken exchange between you and Alissa Gray Alissa this morning in chemistry class.” Ashley stated stressing out Alissa’s name. I don’t even know why she has to call her full. Truthfully, Ashley likes to act like a mom way too much. At the mention of Alissa’s name, that drew the attention of everyone at our table and they stopped what they where doing and paid attention to us. Everyone at this table is always hungry for some gossip.
“Well it’s wasn’t nothing!”.
“Nothing! Did you just say it’s was nothing? Do you know what means for Alissa to acknowledge your existence?”. Aisha sharply spoke.
“No offense but how did she even notice you among all other students of this school?”. Becky questioned in a voice that seems as if she is jealous. I don’t know why. Maybe because this is the second time they are hearing of me talking with Alissa while she has never gotten the opportunity to that even though they have been classmates for long.
“Well my dad dropped me off at school yesterday quiet early so I decided to get a book from the library. While coming out of the library, I collided …”
“Yeah yeah! You told us the story yesterday we don’t want to hear it again. The question is that how comes she still acknowledge you? I personally think that yesterday was a one time occurrence but now we are hearing about you and her sharing looks and smile at each other”. Becky explained her own point of view of the question.
“I personally though my foot. Keep your personal thinking to yourself.” I mocked at Becky in my mind and gave her deadly stare. I personally don’t really know what her issues with me. I don’t even owe anyone an explanation on what I do or who I speak to in my live. We aren’t even friends. I have just known them for three weeks only.
“Ladies calm down! This is not a fight please!”. Aisha said and tired to lighten up the table when she noticed the tension in the atmosphere.
“We didn’t say anything, we just wanted her to explain..”
Becky started saying but I cut her off because I had enough already.
“Explain what? Eh? Explain what? Who are you that you think it’s your right for me to explain myself to you. I owe non of you an explanation of what I do or who I interact with.”. I charged at Becky whose eyes grew wide open now I guess she didn’t expect that I should react this way.
“Wow Claire that’s kind of rude!”. Ashley came to Becky’s defend. I didn’t expect her to pick sides.
“Oh! Am being rude but she isn’t?” I fired back.
“You think am being rude, you are my problem. You came to this school recently and out of no way you are trying to be among the school’s elite. You think I don’t know people like you? Newcomers pretending to be sweet and innocent just to get the attention and lobe of everyone so that you can easily manipulate them.” Becky screamed and all the table near us turned to look at us. All this, me sitting with them and laughing, I didn’t know that that is what they have been thinking of me.
I cleared my voice and address the whole table; “I never knew that all this while, that’s what you have been thinking of me. Thank you for accommodating me at your table for this three weeks but I think that I have overcome my welcome”.
And without waiting for any of them to say anything, I picked my bag and left the cafeteria. As I pass by the Avila’s table, I saw them all looking at me with concern. Since our tables are close to each other, they must have heard the conversation. I need to leave the cafeteria immediately because I the type that easily cries. When am angry, sad, frustrated, I start to cry. And right now, I feel like crying but I didn’t want to give them a satisfaction and cried in front of them. That’s why I left. I thought of the only place that I can cry without anyone disturbing me. The rooftop. So I decided to go there.Download Novelah App
