Claire POV~
When it is time for lunch, Alissa invited me to seat with them for lunch but I declined. I don’t want to be the subject of conversation in the cafeteria today.
“Are you sure you don’t want to seat with us for lunch. I know that the rest will not mind.” Alissa stated.
“Yeah that’s right Claire! Come and join us.” Ivory imputed.
“Thank you guys but maybe next time. I have a book I need to return to the library.” I came up with the excuse. The truth is, I don’t want to over do things and make people think I am actually a social climber. Moreover, I don’t think I want to face Xander after yesterday incident.
“Are you sure that is the reason and nothing else?.” Alissa ask looking directly into my eyes. Both she and I know that is not the reason but I am not going to back down at all.
“Yes!.” I silently answered.
“Okay if you say so but you are definitely eating with us tomorrow.” Alissa finalized. I know there is no way I will get out of this one.
“Okay!”. I sighed.
“Good then. See you in class after lunch.” Alissa said as she and Ivory head to the cafeteria.
I went to the library and drop off the book I borrowed last week. Before I borrowed another one. I can’t help it. The school library is full of interesting science fictions. I think I am becoming addicted to it.
After I left the library, I subconsciously went to the roof top. I want to spend the rest of the lunch period there. The rooftop is actually very quiet. No one comes here except for Xander and me now.
I sat down and brought out my book and started reading. I was so deep into reading the book that I didn’t notice that someone have entered into the roof top.
“I knew I will find you here.!”
I turned to see Xander standing in his glory. He is wearing the school uniform without the blazers and his sleeves was rolled up. He paired the outfit with a black Nike sneakers. He look as if he is modeling for the school magazine or something like that.
“Hi!” I dumbly waved at him as I close the book I am reading.
“Hi to you too! I have been standing for over three minutes and you didn’t even notice someone is here.” Xander said as he move close to me and sat down.
“Sorry! I was Carried away with the book”. I sheepishly said as I waved the book to him.
“Yeah I notice. You are always reading novels all the time”. Xander commented.
“Yeah! Reading it’s actually my hobby. I can’t do without it”. I emphasized with so much energy causing Xander to laugh out loud. I stood still and watch him laugh. He has the most beautiful laugh I have ever heard. He laugh sound like music to my ear.
He stopped laughing after some time and pass me the package in his hands.
“Here! Alissa told me you where not coming to the cafeteria for lunch. I guess you will be here so I brought you something for lunch”. Xander nervously said as he runs the back of his neck.
“Thank you. That’s so kind of you!”. I appreciated him. I opened the package and found two sausage rolls and an apple juice.
“Here eat with me!.” I pass him the package.
“No thank you, I have already eating!.” He politely declined. I was slightly disappointed. I wanted us to share a meal together but I guess that will happen only in my wild imaginations. I kept forgetting that Xander is here and being nice to me probably because he pity me or something like that and not because he likes me.
We both sat there in silence as i eat my food. It is one of the most awkward moment in my life.
“Em.. so what is the book you are reading all about?”. Xander try to make small talks with me as soon as I am done eating.
We sat for about eleven minutes with me explaining the book to him before the bell rang. And just like yesterday, Xander escorted me to the front of my class room before he left.
“Hope you had a wonderful lunch time”. Alissa asked me with a glimpse in her eyes.
“Yeah I did”. I answered keeping my voice neutral. I don’t know if she knew I was with her brother or not. Talking about Xander, I really enjoyed his company this past two days. I don’t understand why people say is not nice. Contrary to that, I think I enjoy his company the most In this school.
“O I am sure you did”. Alissa winked at me and smile as if she is sharing a secret joke with herself. Before I could ask her what her deal is, the teacher entered into the class.
