Chapter 1

Author's note: This story is a work of fiction.
Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam...
At Saigon Lane Apartment...
11:10 AM...
Linh's POV...
I'm sitting on my desk as I continue to edit my videos on my phone. My siblings insisted that I could just edit my videos on my laptop so it would be easier, yet I prefer to make my edits simple and by that I chose to edit on my phone. Using my laptop might be a good idea, but in a time of rush, I wouldn't want to be interrupted with someone entering my room without even bothering to knock when I'm on my laptop editing some stuff. Well, it's like a daily routine for me, to edit videos in private. What can I say, my mom doesn't know that I'm a lowkey content creator, since I wouldn't want her to mock my work since I haven't got much followers or even got one of my videos viral on the internet.
"Sister!"
I shift my gaze up from my phone. From my study desk, I spot my younger sister, Minh, standing in front of the door. She looks like she's ready to run 42km, while having her neon blue t-shirt and her workout shorts on.
"What?" I ask her.
"Brother asked if you wanted to go to the gym with us?" she asks.
"Not now, I'm kinda busy," I say. Speaking of gym, I remember it's been three years since the last time I worked out. After my parents' divorce three years ago, I haven't had time to workout since I got busy trying to find a job, and also deal with some issues like trying to get away from my abusive dad who still tries to stalk us every now and then, to trying to distance myself from my mom whenever her anger issues starts getting worse. Little did I know, after my parents divorce, not only did my relationship with them got more distance, yet I completely stopped working out for three years now, and to be honest, it kind of made me feel guilty.
"Oh, come on, Sis. You ain't getting stronger if you keep skipping workouts," Minh says. I have to admit, her statement was true, that staying in my room all day isn't gonna gain me any strenght or inspirations.
"Come on, it'll be fun," she adds. Well, she's really trying to convience me, and well, I'm starting to consider it since I do realize that I don't want to stay in my room all day just because I'm stressing over creative blocks. A part of me actually missed working out. And who knows? Maybe after a good workout, I'll eventually get some inspiration for my contents.
"Ok, just let me change my clothes for a minute," I say as I get up from my chair.
"Sure, I'll be outside with Brother," Minh says, before exiting my room and closing the door, finally leaving me alone to change my outfit.
A few minutes later...
At the gym...
"I can't believe you actually came down looking like that," Minh says as she comments on my t-shirt, which has a design of a teddy bear on it.
"So? It's comfortable," I say. My sister never really like it when I go around wearing t-shirts with cute designs on them which she found immature. Funny because I'm literally the older one yet she often behaves as if she is more mature than me. Well, she just turned 17, but here she is behaving like a woman and not a teenage girl.
"Says the girl who is 23 and has zero fashion sense," Minh states.
"Ugh, whatever," I say. Man, she can really be a big mouth at times.
"Well, I'll be doing some leg extentions over there. If you need any help just tell me," Minh says.
"Sure. Thanks," I say as I watch Minh walking over to the leg extension machine, while our brother, Hoang, is doing some shoulder press.
My vision starts to study the gym for a while. It's the first time I ever walked in to this place, though it's already been a year since my family and I stayed in this apartment. Before, we were staying in a different apartment, but my mom figured that this apartment is more convenient since it's connected to a mall, which makes grocery shopping a lot more easier. Besides, this place is quite far from my old home, in which we're just trying to avoid my abusive dad.
Yet I gotta say that I'm quite impress with the gym here, since they have tons of machines for a good workout, bringing back my nostalgic days when I used to workout at home before my parents divorce. It's a bit crowded today, with many people working out. Another thing I noticed, is that other than some local Vietnamese, there are also a few foreigners from different countries, which I found to be interesting. Being at the gym today, though I'm quite excited to workout, I also feel a bit lost, and that I'm a bit confuse about where to start.
Yet, I figured I had to start somewhere. In the corner of the gym, I see a bunch of yoga mats rolled up. I walked over to the corner and grab one. For a start, I thought I could do some mountain climbers, knowing that it was the first thing I learned when I used to workout at home. I get into position and start doing it, for a start, trying to make it to 20 reps per leg, with a goal of 4 sets. As I start doing it, I feel like my body just got awaken by a ray of energy. That refreshing workout feeling I get starts coming back after 3 years, which felt good.
Minutes eventually passed, and I'm now taking a short rest before I finish my final set. I'm planning to do some planks after. Well, at least one set for a start, if I could survive for one minute than that would be great.
"Sister!"
I turn my head up from the pink yoga mat to see my sister standing in front of me who is sitting on the mat.
"What is it?" I ask her.
"Can you please help me ask that guy if he's still using the smith machine?" Minh asks as she points to the guy who is standing next to the smith machine, looking busy with his phone.
"Oh, sure," I say. I knew well how my sister often gets nervous after talking to strangers, by that she always asked Hoang to ask people at the gym about whether their still using a certain machine or not. Well, Hoang is now running on the treadmill, so Minh wouldn't really want to bother him.
I get up from the mat, and along with Minh, we walk up to the guy who stood beside the smith machine. His eyes didn't bother to see us since he still look busy with his phone.
"Excuse me," I say, clearly trying to get his attention for a few seconds.
He turns his head up to see me, where our eyes meet for the first time. For a second, I feel like the moment has paused, since my vision got enchanted by his stunning brown eyes. From his face, I could tell that he doesn't look like a local. From his features, I think he looks Chinese. I almost lost my words when I see his vision also looks lost while staring at me.
"Yes?" he answers.
"Umm...I was wondering if you're still using the smith machine?" I ask him, feeling a bit nervous as I can feel butterflies starting to dance inside of me. Man, this sensation makes me feel like I was reborn.
"Oh no, I'm actually done. You can use it," he says.
"Oh ok, thank you," I say. Wow, that wasn't so hard, though I was really getting nervous with the butteflies getting wild inside of me.
Hearing my answer, the guy smiled at me and walks away, leaving Minh and I to stood in silence near the smith machine, with my heart still trying to calm down after the exciting feeling I got after my encounter with him.
To be continue...
