Chapter 33

Six months later...
Linh's POV...
It's been months since I've been staying home, but I'm glad to say that since my mom has been visiting and staying at grandma's place more often, this actually gives me more freedom to go back to the gym. I've been hitting back to the gym for almost a month now, and I'm currently on a bulk. Having a fast metabolisme made me realize that gaining weight my not be the easiest thing for me, but it's worth trying if I want to have more visible muscles.
Since I returned to the gym, there were times when I saw Nar. Sometimes he's alone just working out like usual, sometimes he's with his girlfriend, and other times, he can be seen entering the sauna room. Sometimes alone, but at some points, with different girls. Honestly, it wasn't easy for me to deal with that. But now, I'm grateful to say that I am starting to accept the fact that I simply cannot expect him to behave in a manner where I would be happy about.
But on the other hand, I am grateful that I have gained a lot of new friends since I returned to the gym, with all of us coming from different ages and genders. We became a group where I consider them as my "gym family", where we would help each other out with our workouts and literally just have fun together. In this state, I am beyond thankful to God for giving me so much love. Despite losing a lot in life, God blessed me with so much love which I will forever be thankful of.
Friday...
9:17 PM...
At Linh's apartment...
"You haven't sleep yet?" I ask Minh as I enter her room to see her still on her laptop.
"Nope. Maybe I'll go to bed in about 30 more minutes," I state. "Hoang already fell asleep though."
"Yeah. He was very tired today," Minh says, with her vision still focusing on the screen of her laptop.
"I see," I say. "By the way, what are you reading?"
"Random life posts from a random blogger," Minh states. "This guy wrote some pretty interesting stories."
"I see," I say. My vision starts to focus on the screen as I begin to read the post from the blog. Somehow, I feel like there's something familiar about the way blogger writes in his blog.
"What did the blogger wrote about?" I ask Minh.
"He's been writing about his dramatic life issues. Work, and complicated relationships. He said he broke a girl's heart at some points by getting into a situationship with her," Minh states.
I paused. I didn't answer, my eyes widen for a moment. Why does his story seem like he is linked to Nar?
"I personally think that this guy has Main Character Syndrome. His posts can be quite dramatic, but well, sometimes they can also be funny," Minh states, eventually letting out a small laugh.
"Oh," I say, my vision continue to read the screen of my sister's laptop. Deep down, my mind is wondering hard whether these posts I'm reading are written by the man who once broke my heart, who is none other than Nar.
Meanwhile...
At Nar's apartment...
"Mom, I'm ok. It's just another work-related matter," Nar says on the phone.
"I'm just concern, Son," his mom says on the phone. "It's been a while since you've stayed in Ho Chi Minh. Next week you'll be going to Taipei.
"Mom, I'm fine, everything is fine," Nar states. "I'll only be there for about 2 years. Relax. Besides, I have Lita here with me."
Slowly, Nar's hand starts to reach out to touch Lita's, who is sitting next to him on the bed while listening to Nar's conversation with his mother.
"We'll be sure to visit often," Nar adds.
"Ok, Nar. I just care for your safety," his mom says. "Say hi to Lita for me. You kids stay safe."
"Of course, Mom," Nar says. "Well, it's getting late. We will be going to bed soon. You should also get some rest, Mom."
"Ok, I'll go to bed now. Goodnight, Honey," his mom says.
"Goodnight, Mom," Nar says before ending the call.
"Your mom really misses you," Lita says with a soft smile on her face.
"She misses us to be exact," says Nar, before turning his vision from his phone to Lita.
"I can't believe we will be staying in Taipei for two years," Lita says. "How do you feel about that?"
Hearing that, Nar paused for a second as he replay the question from Lita in his head. On one side, though he misses his family Bangkok, he knew that it's part of his job that he has to travel to Taipei for business matters. Yet, on the other side, he knew that he was also gonna miss Ho Chi Minh. Other than the comforting food and friendly people, one thing he is also gonna miss about the city, is the girl who has left a special place in his memories of Ho Chi Minh. The girl he realized he could never date, yet he knew at some points, he knew there was a time he had feelings for her. That girl, is Linh.
"I'm fine. Well, it's part of the job," Nar answers. "And and as long as we're together, I believe everything's gonna be ok."
Despite feeling agitated inside, Nar managed to let out some comforting words to Lita. Even though he knew that it's not gonna be easy to forget about Ho Chi Minh (and Linh) in an instant blink, one thing he realized is that life must go on, and now, he has to step into the future together, with the girl he just married a month ago. The girl who knew would always be there for him, Lita.
"Then let's get through this together," says Lita as she gives Nar a warm, comforting hug, in which he hugs her back. Despite being a person who struggles to be honest about his own feelings, Nar learned that in life, even though you don't always get everything you want, it is important for us to find our own safe zone. In his case, he found Lita, someone who would always be there for him, in which he is thankful of.
Five years later...
1:30 PM...
At Bangkok, Thailand...
"Where are we going again?" Hoang asks as his eyes continue to study the map he is holding.
"I asked the lady who sells Thai tea about a place to buy some fashionable clothes. She told me there's a market around this area," says Minh before she takes another sip of her Thai tea.
"Well, one thing, the market is surely crowded," Linh states.
Hearing Linh's statement, Hoang and Minh moves their vision to the market in front of them which is very crowded. They were a bit surprised to see the market so crowded, especially since they are literally visiting the place on a random weekday for a one week vacation.
"Well, we can always wait until it's not too crowded," Linh states.
"Yeah right. I'll be moving to another place to get another Thai tea if I have to wait for too long," Minh states.
Linh lets out a small giggle as her vision continues to watch the amount of people slowly exiting the market, each one of them at least holding one shopping bag which she assumed they just bought some clothes from the market. Yet, while watching the amount of people exiting the market, her vision stopped when she saw a tall figure exiting the market while holding the hand of a small boy. Her heart almost stopped when their eyes accidentally met for a few seconds, before a familiar woman walks up to him with a little girl holding her hand. The sight of the familiar man gave her an instant flashback in her head, unlocking both sweet and bitter memories. That man is Nar, who she has not seen for five years.
"Sisters, I think I found another place for us to go shopping. What do you say we go there?" Hoang asks as he stares at his phone after doing some research about where to shop at Bangkok.
"Oh good, let's go," Minh says, but then she notice that Linh is still standing still, with her vision seem like she's just staring at someone.
"Linh, are you ok?" Minh asks.
"Oh, I'm fine. Let's go," Linh quickly answers. Hearing Minh's voice gave her a quick reality check from her little "eye contact" moment with Nar, which almost made her got lost in her own flashbacks.
Minh smiles, and she grabs her sister's arm gently.
"Let's go," Minh says as she drags Linh away from the market, and away from the sight of Nar.
Meanwhile...
Lita decided to go to a nearby ice cream stall to get some ice creams. She told Nar to just wait in front of the market along with their son since he could be a handful at times whenever he gets too exicited for ice cream. By that, Lita thought it would be better for Nar to just watch after him so she could peacefully get ice cream for all of them.
"Dad, I saw you staring at something before. Did you saw something scary? What were you staring at?" his son asks in a curious yet innocent manner.
Nar hesitated for a second. He didn't know his son would notice how frozen his vision probably was after accidentally seeing Linh from a distance, who he has not seen for five years. He knew he had to play it safe, he didn't his son to know about things he thought he doesn't need to know. Especially, since he is too young to understand.
"Nothing," Nar answers. "I was just thinking about ice cream."
"Ah, I love ice cream too, Dad," says the little boy excitedly.
Nar smiles at his son. But deep inside, his heart knew well that it wasn't the thought of ice cream that got him excited. It was the sight of someone who he thought he had forgotten after five years, only to eventually realize that he never really forgot, yet he only learned to accept the fact that she is a part of his past. This made Nar realize something...that in life, some people are only meant to become memories, bitter or sweet. Maybe they have left your life, but sometimes, the vision of them remains in your heart.
I was looking at the girl who once loved me, and who I once fell in love with. Nar thought.
THE END.
