Chapter 3

A tall guy with messy black suddenly approaches Linh and Minh, out of the two girls surprise. He bends down as he tries to set up the bench of the shoulder press, which somehow succeded, making the two girls even more surprised.
"There, all set," the guy says as he gets up from his kneeling position.
"Oh, thank you," Linh says to the guy as she stares into his eyes, feeling a bit amazed and the sudden help she just received from the gentleman standing in front of her.
"You're welcome," the guy says as he smiles at the two girls, before walking away and heading to his yoga mat, in which he plan to do some stretching.
"Well, that was nice of him," Linh says.
"Yeah," Minh says, with her eyes still focusing on the tall guy who just set up his yoga mat on the corner of the room.
Linh turns her head to see her younger sister staring at the guy with a mesmerized look. From one look she already knew that her eyes are speaking differently than usual. For a moment she wanted to thought that it's impossible to see her sister in a state where she actually stare at someone in a different type of way.
"Did your eyes got enchanted all of a sudden by him?" Linh asks her younger sister in a playful tone, in an attempt to tease her.
"I would say it's like getting starstrucked," Minh says. "It seems you've finally saw my gym crush."
"Him? Your gym crush?" Linh asks, almost seems like she found it hard to believe that her arrogant sister could actually find a guy at the gym to look attractive.
"Yeah," Minh says. "It's been months since I've been stealing glances at him."
Hearing that, Linh turns her attention to the guy who her sister just told her that she's been crushing on, who is minding his own business doing some stretchings in the corner of the gym. Linh starts to study the guy from head to toe, from his messy black hair, to the white socks he is wearing at the moment. While studying his other features, deep down, Linh had to admit that her sister surely has a good sight to spot a charming guy. The guy has a calm yet charismatic look, complete with his beautiful exotic tan skin. His body is build perfectly, making him look like the perfect image of an idol.
"Nar from Thailand," Minh states. "For now, that's the only information I know about him."
"Woah, and how did you even know his name?" Linh asks in surprised.
"I heard him and Mr Tuan vibing at the smith machine some times," Minh states, which didn't surprise Linh too much. She remembered how Minh told her that the personal trainer, Mr Tuan, is literally a social butterfly who socialises with almost the whole gym.
Linh smiles. "You should try to approach him."
"No way," Minh states. "That would be too awkward."
"Why?" Linh asks in a bit of a playful manner.
"You know how I get awkward talking to others," Minh states. "Just hell no."
"Well, you're not gonna know more about him if you don't try to approach him," Linh says. Figuring out that her younger sister is crushing on someone, she feels both happy and supportive towards her.
"I know," Minh says. "Yet I don't really want to approach him directly. At least I need to know a few things about him first, before approaching him directly."
"I see," Linh says. "And do you have any plans on how to do that?"
Minh smiles. "I'm thinking about it."
Hearing her sister's answer, Linh smiles as she turns her head back to stare at Nar, who is still stretching peacefully on his yoga mat. His face looks so in peace as if he's really in tune with what he's doing, which Linh thought to be very fascinating. In a busy era like today filled with headache hectic, it's rare for her to see someone who is still able to have a bit of peace in a moment where he needs it the most. She found that to be quite attractive.
"Ok, let's continue with our workout," Minh says as she sits on the bench to do some shoulder press. Her voice quickly breaks Linh's stare from Nar, as she quickly snaps back to reality.
"Oh, yeah," Linh says as she moves her head to see Minh starting to do some shoulder press. Realizing that she almost lost her gaze while staring at Nar, she attempt to search for something to do at the gym. Catching her attention, she sees the cable machine being empty, hence she heads over to give it a try. Right now, Lihn just wants to focus on her workout and nothing else, and not even a peaceful guy on the yoga mat could get her attention away. At least, that's what she told herself.
Three months later...
Linh's POV...
It's been three months since I started going to the gym consistently. I'm happy to say that I've gotten so much better in working, that now I could even add up more weight when I do low row or shoulder press. Not only do I feel so much stronger, yet it also gives my body such a positive vibe.
Other than that, I've also had the chance to see "Mr Smith" more often. At least, that's what Minh and I decided to call him in the mean time. Often times we would exchange glances at one another, though he would eventually turn his gaze away whenever he realized that I noticed he was glancing. One thing I realized, was the fact that he's surely a shy person. Yet, our encounters honestly made me feel more drawn to him, maybe it's because I found his presence to look more familiar. By that, there were times that I actually hope he would make the first move and strike up a conversation. Who knows, maybe we can exchange numbers after. However, for as long as we've been sweating like crazy during our energetic workouts, he doesn't seem to show any signs of having the courage to do it, despite often times he would throw shy glances at me.
Saturday...
6:30 PM...
At the dining room...
"It's been three months and he still hasn't make the first move," I say as I take another spoon of my pho soup, waiting for it to cool down a bit since it's still hot.
"And you actually thought he would have the guts to do that?" Hoang asks in a rather sarcastic manner.
"Nope, since I'll agree that he does look like he's too shy," I state.
"He's more of a coward if you ask me," Minh states as she walks into the dining room with her bowl of pho, before pulling out a seat next to Hoang.
I sip on my soup, while in my head I'm thinking of a way to actually approach that guy without looking too awkward. Knowing that he doesn't seem to have the courage to do that even after three months of glancing at one another, I figured that I might as well just approach him on my own. I'm not really the type that would mind making the first move if the guy is more shy than me. Well, yet that doesn't really makes me confident. I have insecurities and believe me when I say that it often gets the best of me.
"I'll try to talk to him tomorrow," I say.
"Woah, and that's a fast move," Minh states before she drinks her glass of water.
"Well, can't hurt to try," Hoang adds.
"Since he is such a coward, at least I'm gonna have to be the one to make the first move," I say.
"Enough with all these nonsense and start eating," our mom suddenly says as she storms into the dining room. She pulls out the seat to sit next to me, as she puts her bowl of pho on the dining table. Her presence made my siblings, and me, all went silence in the room. We knew well that when mom walks in, it means it's not the time to talk about anything she would figure to be annoying.
The next day...
At the gym...
I walk inside the crowded gym, going solo since Hoang and Minh are gonna play badminton with their friends. Yup, it's no surprise that today would be crowded since it's Sunday. Today I already prepared myself for a good upper day, but other than that, I already got my mind set to approach Mr Smith and just give him my number. Yeah, as cheesy as it sounds, at least that's how I planned to approach him, yet of course I'm gonna add some good old fashion talking first, before giving him the small paper which I already put inside my gym bag.
My eyes start to study the whole gym, yet I don't see any signs of him. Yet, I did notice another familiar face I've seen for a while. From a distance, I can see Nar lifting weights at the smith machine, looking all consentrate. Man, I never noticed how serious he looks when he's lifiting, but he surely does have some good strenght. Well, that prettymuch explains his big muscles.
I just realized I've been staring at Nar for a bit too long. Damn it, I must have lost my focus. I quickly snap back to my reality, and still Mr Smith is no where to be seen. I assumed he might be running late, but that didn't really matter. Now it's time for me to focus on my workout, and I'm gonna start with a good low row.
To be continue...
