42: Chapter Forty-Two
It’s been two weeks and I’m back modeling. Cameron is staying home since he still can’t work because of his condition. His mother, with Clarisse, stays with him and Via while I’m away. Today, my schedule is at the Morgan’s company. I’m expecting to see Irene or Jackson today and I’m ready for it. I’ve been digging a lot on Jackson’s background and it just gets more interesting. Turns out he had records of assault and stalking back in America but, of course, his father cleaned it for him. Just like I expected. Irene and Jackson are approaching my direction. I just kept walking until we are now facing each other. “The audacity to show up here after what you did to my father-in-law?!” “You mean future father-in-law? Also, it’s not my fault to be hired by your clothing brand as a model to their newest collection.” “I can kick you out, you know that, right?” “It’s not my lost, you also know that, right?” “Irene, let’s just go. We’ll be late on our appointment.” Jackson tried to pull Irene away from me but she didn’t move. “Be thankful that my father-in-law and Jackson did not file a case against you.” “They won’t have the guts to do that. You want to know why?” I turned to Jackson and glared at him. “Because I might have something that can destroy them in an instant. I’m like a ticking bomb for them, right Jackson?” I smirked at them before walking away. I just need evidence against Jackson. I don’t know if it’s possible to open the case again but I won’t let him get away with it like he did years back. Hours later, it’s almost night time, when I finished my schedule. I went back home and was about to enter but the door opened and Stefano came out. Behind him is Cameron carrying Via. “Stefano? What are you doing here?” “O-Oh, you’re back?” “Obviously? What are you doing here?” “I came for you but I was told you were away. I didn’t know you are back at modeling.” “Yeah, why? Is there something we should talk about?” “No, I just came to check on you and give you something. I left it on the coffee table at the living room. I have to leave now. I still have a meeting.” He left the house but I’m still confused. I went inside and saw a box on the coffee table. I think it’s the one that Stefano mentioned. “Did he tell you anything?” I asked Cameron as I unwrap the box. “No, he just told me to give you that one. I’ll just put Via to sleep.” He went upstairs with Via. I opened the box and was about to bring out the box’s content when my phone started ringing. It’s from an unknown caller. I was hesitant to answer but I still did. “Hello? Who’s this?” [It’s me. Jackson.] “Jackson? Why are you calling?” [I know you’ve been doing something that involves me. If you want to know, why don’t you come and visit me at my house?] “Your house? Do you want Irene to kill me?” [She’s not around. She has to leave for an out-of-town business. Will you come?] I paused for a few seconds before answering. “I’ll see you in a bit.” I didn’t bother telling Cameron and I just left the house. I drive to Irene and Jackson’s place and it didn’t take that long to arrive. Before exiting my car, I left a message to my brothers telling my location. I actually have a bad feeling about this but it’s now or never. I rang the doorbell and Jackson immediately opened the door to let me in. “Do you want something to drink?” I softly chuckled and smirked as I face him. “I won’t drink or eat anything in a possible criminal’s house. I’m just being careful. I hope you don’t take it too personally.” “Then, should we go straight to the point?” “Okay.” I sat down and he did the same. I crossed my legs and stared at him as I speak. “Are you the one who attempted to rape me back in America?” “No.” “What did I expect?” I leaned back without removing my eyes on him. “No criminal confesses their sins that easily.” “I don’t know what made you think that I was that person, but sadly, for you, I’m not.” “I did a background check on you, I hope you don’t mind but even if you do it has been done anyway. I saw that you had a stalking and assault case before. Is that enough to say on why I suspect you?” He leaned back and smirked. “I’m not that type of person. I don’t know what you found but—” “Facts don’t lie. Records don’t lie.” He stared at me for a few minutes before answering. “Okay, I did all those. I did the stalking and assault, but that was all. It was some stupid decisions I made when I was young and immature. I’m not someone who can rape any woman.” “Why should I believe you?” “Look here, Savannah.” He leaned forward as he continues to create eye contact with me. “I am doing you a favor. I get it, you’re suspecting me, but don’t you think that focusing on me might be your lost? There’s a lot of people around you, it’s not only me.” “You liked me before, didn’t you?” “I did. I’m the type of person who gets what I want, but not in a way you’re thinking.” “But you failed to get me,” I said as I chuckle. He chuckled too and stands up. “I have some documents that can help you. I used my connections to get you those. I’ll just grab it upstairs. Can you wait here?” “Sure, go ahead.” As soon as he left, I immediately stood up and quietly searched around the house. I was on a hallway, I think it leads to the laundry room, when I heard the floor squeak. It wasn’t a normal sound and it sounded like it could break or open—open! I lifted the carpet and saw a handle. It was a secret passage door! Skyler was right, there is a secret room, a basement. I looked back to check on Jackson before carefully opening the door. When I opened it, there is a staircase leading to a dark room. I breathed deeply before starting to go down the basement. As soon as I reached the last step, I tried looking for a light switch by touching the wall. I finally found it and lights opened and what I saw shocked me.
