61: Chapter Sixty-One
We are now inside the van on the way to the hotel, and I still feel anxious for unknown reasons. Why do I keep feeling that something bad would happen anytime? “Babe, are you okay?” Cameron asked me as he holds my hand. I turned to him and smiled. “I am okay. Don’t worry.” “Are you sure? You look anxious.” “I am okay. Don’t worry about me.” I tried to calm myself down and change the topic. “Look at my shoes. My brothers gifted it to me earlier. Do you know how much this is? It’s more or less fifty-million! They bought it from an auction! I still can’t believe they did that.” “Really? Well, I can’t blame them. They would, of course, prepare the best gift for their only and older sister. Fifty-million is a just a cent for them compared on how much they love you.” “Love me? Tsk, they could have just given me a simple designer shoes and I would still appreciate it. They literally participated in an auction just for the shoes.” “Fifty-million is still cheap considering it’s from an auction.” “It’s more or less fifty-million. I would be glad if it’s less but be hysterical if it’s more.” My anxiousness slowly disappeared as me and Cameron happily chat. We didn’t even realize that we already arrived at the hotel. I changed my gown first into a simpler one. I can’t really move freely with my wedding gown so I had to change to another one. Also, I have to change my shoes. I even placed the shoes my brothers gave me in a small vault because, obviously, I can’t afford to lose or misplace it. We went out on the garden and we were welcomed with congratulatory. “Thank you for everyone who attended and became part of this remarkable day for us,” Cameron said as soon as we reached the mini stage in the front. “This event has been postponed multiple times because of unexpected circumstances, but what matters most is that we’re here... we finally made it to our happy ending.” Cameron passed me the microphone. “Thank you for taking your time in joining us for this special occasion. It means a lot for the two of us. It hasn’t been an easy ride but we had people around us who helped us, and we finally made it. Thank you again.” Me and Cameron sat on our designated sit, down the stage, to watch some performances dedicated for us. Skyler is one of the few who performed. At the middle of a performance, Stefano approached me and pulled me to the side. “Why?” “I don’t know if I should say this at your wedding day—” “Just say it! You already pulled me here.” “Jackson’s father is dead.” “What?! How? When?!” We made sure to lower our voice to avoid people hearing our conversation. “Ten minutes ago. An employee of mine told me that his car fell off a cliff which caused his death. It was concluded as an accident.” I wanted to know and ask more but our pre-wedding video started playing. I went back beside Cameron and acted like nothing is wrong. After watching the video, we went back to the stage for the cake cutting. “Now, it’s time for our lovely couple to cut and take the first bite on the wedding cake! Are you ready Mr. and Mrs. Zach?” Mrs. Zach, I feel like I blushed when I heard that. I’m finally and officially Savannah Harris-Zach. We started cutting the cake, when I suddenly noticed something strange from the crowd. I saw a person, dressed as a server, pushing a cart, walking towards the center at the back parallel to where Cameron is standing. I don’t know but I started to have a bad feeling about it the moment I saw him. Everything went too fast. I saw him taking something out from the cart, and I just instinctively jumped to Cameron and hug him. The next thing I knew, everyone was panicking after a gunshot sound, while I’m laying on the floor at the arms of my husband. “Savannah! B-Babe! S-Stay with me. Don’t close your eyes! Can you hear me?!” Suddenly, another set of screams was heard. With all the energy left within me, I turned my head to the side and saw Jackson laying on the floor with blood coming out from his head. “Babe! Don’t move and stay still. Stay awake!” Everything around me started spinning. Cameron carried me and brought me to the car. He kept telling me to stay awake but I feel like I could fall asleep anytime soon. I started to hear ringing in my head. A blurred picture of Cameron’s crying face is the only thing I could see. “Babe! We’ll be in the hospital in a minute. Stay with me, okay?” he said as he cups my face. I tried my best to reach for his face and smile. “I-I could finally call you m-my husband. D-Don’t cry... my h-husband. I-I’m sleepy.” Suddenly, everything went black. -- Cameron’s POV “Savannah! Wake up! Don’t sleep! O-Open your eyes!” I keep shouting as I try to shake her body. Her eyes closed, while tears keep escaping my eyes. “Drive faster! DRIVE FASTER!” I keep shouting at the driver. Soon, we reached the hospital. Savannah was immediately placed in a stretcher and was brought to the operating room. I was left outside the OR. Few minutes later, the rest of our family arrived escorted by a dozen bodyguards. “Why are you all here? It’s not safe! You should have stayed in the house!” “H-How’s my daughter?! Where is she?!” My mother-in-law asked while crying. “She’s inside the operating room. She will be fine, don’t worry.” I barely said the last words. I can barely calm my self down! Fuck! Why does this keeps happening?! Via started crying so I grabbed her from my mom. “Shh, don’t cry. Your mommy will be okay. She’s strong. Everything will be okay.” We waited outside the operating room, anxiously. Via ended up falling asleep on my arms. An hour later, the police came. “What happened?” I immediately asked as I stood up. “Jackson Miller was the one who shot Savannah. Based on the security footage, he aimed at you but Savannah blocked the bullet, and she ended up being shot instead of you.” Why would she do that?! Why would she sacrifice herself for me?! “After that, Jackson was shot in the head by a sniper. We are still trying to locate where the shooter is, but we are sure that it was a sniper. Jackson, is dead on the spot.” “Jackson’s father was found dead earlier. His car fell off a cliff,” Stefano said. I sighed in distress. “Please continue to investigate. Inform us immediately if you find any information,” my dad said. The police left and I sat back down. Jackson already died, so I can’t make him pay on what he did to my wife. However, the question remains; why did he aimed at me? Did he want to kill me just because I’m Savannah’s man? Was he jealous because of his obsessiveness towards Savannah? But who killed him?
