65: Chapter Sixty-Five

“I’m sorry! I can’t hold it any longer! I think I’m going to fart if I keep holding my laughter!” Sylvester said while laughing. I can’t stop myself from laughing too.
“You’re so bad at acting! Why did I never realize that your face is so funny! I almost lost it when I saw you squeezing Skyler!” I said while laughing. I looked at Cameron, who looks flustered and confused. “That’s what you get! You think you’re the only one who can pretend to have an amnesia?!”
“You think that’s funny?! I was so worried!”
“I only pretended for a few minutes but you did it for weeks! I wouldn’t lose this kind of chance to pay you back!”
“That’s different! I did it for a reason!”
“I did it for fun, but it’s not different!”
“You two should stop, you might end up fighting. You just got married,” mom said.
“You also played along, mom?” Cameron asked.
“Of course. I also wouldn’t miss the chance to play with my kids. Also, I’m Savanah’s mother. She got the humor from me.” I smiled and fist bump mom. Cameron turned to my brothers, and Sylvester spoke even before he could say anything.
“Don’t blame us! We are also victims! He played the same prank on us earlier!”
“Don’t take it too personally. We are just playing along with her little request,” Stefano said and tapped Cameron on the shoulders.
“You should be happy that I really don’t have amnesia. Also, did you really think I’ll just forgive and forget that time that you pretended to have amnesia?! I just forgave you but I didn’t forget!”
“We should leave the two of you. I’ll feed Aviana and these three little idiot pigs.”
“Wait? Us? Mom!” Sylvester yelled as they exit the room.
“Sit.” I told Cameron as soon as they left. He sat on the bed beside me. “Are you mad?”
“I’m relieved... that you’re awake and healthy enough to play pranks. I don’t know what to do if the call I received earlier is not this kind of news.”
“I heard you went on a business conference. Was it already finished when they called you?”
“Yeah, it was already done. But even if it’s still on-going, I would rush back immediately.” He grabbed my hand and kissed it. “Thank you, for coming back to me... to us.”
“How could I leave when I just became Mrs. Zach? Do you know how much happy I was when the doctor and nurses called me that? They keep saying Savannah Zach. Also, you called me your wife earlier! I almost forgot that I was pretending and almost smiled! How could I die when I’ll just start living as your wife?” We both chuckled.
“How can you be so adorable?”
“I’m also beautiful.”
“You are the most beautiful woman, and I’m lucky to have you as my wife.” My smile slowly fades when I remembered something. “Why? Does it hurt anywhere? Do you want me to call a doctor?”
“I heard Jackson and his father are dead. He was shot after he shot me, right?” His expression changed as he nodded.
“Until now, they’re still looking for the shooter of Jackson.”
“Stefano suspects that his father’s death wasn’t an accident. It was disguised as one, just like doctor Mavis’s death.”
“Doctor Mavis? The psychologist?”
“Right. I share the same thoughts with Stefano. I feel like they found an information that they shouldn’t have, that’s why they’re killed.”
“Jackson... could have the same case. Maybe he found something out?”
“His shooter wasn’t really from our security team?”
“No. We don’t have snipers that day. I was so mad at the security team knowing that Jackson was able to pass through them, but then...”
“Then what? What happened?” He took a deep breath before continuing.
“One of the security members, who’s on duty that day, is currently missing. Turns out, he’s the one securing the entrance in the hotel’s kitchen that day. It looks like he was an ally of Jackson.”
“Will they be able to catch them?”
“I think it won’t be easy. We have been suspecting that it’s a syndicate or organization, if that’s really the case, then it’ll take time for us to find them. We are going against a syndicate and it will be hard and dangerous.” I sighed. “You should not stress yourself and just rest. I’ll be here beside you so, just tell me if you need anything.”
“I need a kiss.” He didn’t hesitate for a second and kissed me on my forehead and lips. I took a nap comfortably knowing that my husband is beside me.
--
The next day, I’m alone at the room. Someone is guarding outside because Cameron had to attend a meeting, while my mom also has a meeting. Aviana is with my mother-in-law.
Suddenly, the door opened. I saw dad holding a bouquet of tulips. He placed it on the coffee table and awkwardly approached me.
“Are you doing alright?” I stared at him and could visibly noticed a bruise on his face.
“You should ask a make-up artist to cover up that bruise. What would people say when they see the SH holdings CEO with a bruise?” I already heard from mom that Skyler punched dad so I wasn’t surprise to see the bruise. Honestly, dad looks tired. He’s starting to lose weight ever since grandfather was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. I know he’s doing a lot of things in the company on behalf of grandpa.
He's just standing there awkwardly so I decided to break the silence.
“How’s grandpa doing?” He raised his head and looked at me.
“He’s... he’s not getting any better. He can’t even remember me. Uncle Shawn keeps telling me to bring him to the states for medication and leave the company to him but—”
“But you don’t want to. Of course, you’ll lose your position when that happens.” Uncle Shawn is my grandfather’s brother. He’s aunt Gianna’s father.
“Then what should I do? I have been working hard for years just to earn your grandfather’s trust. Until now, he doesn’t want me to take fully in charge of the company. If Uncle Shawn ends up being the substitute chairman, your aunt Gianna would eventually inherit the company. Us? We’ll have no place in the company anymore.”
“That’s what matters to you? Whether you inherit the company or not? You don’t mind if grandpa doesn’t get any better?”
“There’s no use of leaving. I researched and called the best doctors in the states. There’s no cure for Alzheimer’s. So, leaving won’t do it.”
“Why are you here anyway?”
‘’I just wanted to check on you—”
“Do you need me to persuade Sylvester to go back to the company? Or persuade my husband to invest something to you? I won’t do either.”
“Do you really think I’m that cruel?! I just wanted to see my daughter, can’t I?! Right, I can’t blame you if that’s how you have been feeling for years. But don’t fully think that I’ll let my kids die. I know, I’ve been the worst father, but I have my reasons. It’s hard for you and your brothers? It’s harder for me! At least the four of you have each other’s back, but I don’t have anyone to support me!” He took a deep breath and looked away. “It’s good that you’re alive. I’ll take my leave now. Sorry for disturbing you.” He left me there speechless.
