LIS: 40

"You and your squirrel can go to hell."
She stood up and left him. She noticed some of the tourists came up to him as she walked away. So, he even attracted some attention? Bad trip!
Cheska marched towards the double bike and rode it. Maybe he had forgotten about her since he already have a cute squirrel and a bunch of fans.
"Cheska, wait up," Carter called her, carrying the foldable tripod in his hand. He was forced to hop on the back of the bike. "Why did you just leave me there?"
"Why did you leave the squirrel and your fans?"
He laughed. "You're a little childish, aren’t you?”
“You were laughing at me when you can clearly see I already freaking out.”
“Squirrels don’t climb on just anyone. You look pretty here.”
She didn’t look awkward in the picture with her suprised look while the squirrel was eating a nut on top of her head.
She didn’t know if she should laugh or cry on herself. "I looked like a fool earlier."
“It’s okay to look like a fool sometimes. Anyway, it is a scary experience if an animal suddenly just climbed up on your head. But, do I look like I'm going to leave you? Let you get harmed?”
She bit her lip. "I-I don't know."
He caressed her forehead. “I'm sorry if you got scared earlier because of the squirrel. I'm sorry if I made fun of you. How can I make up for it? ”
"Another zipwire while singing the theme song of Winter Sonata?"
His eyes widened. "No!"
“DI KO KAILANGAN ng kayamanan. Puso mo ang tangi kong inaasam. Hindi ko kayang ikaw ay malayo't mawalay ka sa piling ko (I don’t need wealth. Your heart is my only hope. I can't afford for you to be far away from me),” Cheska sang while hugging herself.
"LSS much?" Carter asked as they walked home to his house.
It was already nighttime when they left Nami Island. They still waited for the lights to be turned on at the small Eiffel Tower in Petite France which has also been the location of various Korean programs.
"I have separation anxiety with Nami Island. If only I didn’t have leave."
Cheska would have stayed there overnight if Carter didn’t remind her that his sister and mother had no one else to be with them in the house. He also didn’t want to leave her there alone and only fetch her after the tour. She was his responsibility, he said. He didn’t even want her to get near the cute squirrels. He was trying to protect her now.
“You can just go back next time. Hopefully with someone special,” he said. "So you can really enjoy the place with the man you like."
"I still enjoyed the tour with you though.” She held his gloved hand. "Thank you. I don’t have the courage to go to such a romantic place on my own. I might just cry bitterly with all the lovers around me."
"You didn’t feel like crying earlier? You didn’t feel sad? I won’t feel offended if you wished you were with someone else instead."
She just laughed. "Do I look like I’m sad? With this kind of expression I have now?"
"There. You should always smile like that,” he said, happy with her joyful aura. "I want you to always be happy. You've been sad for six years now. And that’s why I want you to forget your sadness when you’re with me. I'm not saying you shouldn’t forget Doc Darryl. But you owe it to yourself to be happy. To keep on living."
“That’s exactly what I’m doing now. I found something that makes me happy. ”
"Like…?"
You. You make me happy.
He managed to wash away those six years of her grief. It used to be hard for her to laugh but she was able to feel things again with the simple things he do for her. She could see his effort. She witnessed how he would go to lengths just to please her. He went out of his way to make sure she would enjoy her day, even the things that were out of his role as a tourist guide. She felt like she was nineteen again, young and carefree and thrilled about life.
What if I tell him that he was the one who was making me happy, what would he do? Will he be happy? Will he be flattered? Would he also say that he was happy to be with her?
She felt the urge to tell him how special she felt when she was with him. She never had a chance to tell Doc Darryl how she felt. What if she once again lost the opportunity to tell Carter how she feels?
I won’t even say that I’m in love with him. It's too early for that. I just want to tell him how much I appreciate all the things he did for me. How much my life changed because of him.
Cheska stopped walking. "Nae Sarang, I want to tell you something.”
"Hmmm… what?"
“Carter! Carter! ”
Cheska wasn’t able to say whatever she wanted to say when she saw Min Ji coming up to them.
