CHESKA WAS JUST crying as she stared at Carter’s picture on the wall of her room. It had been a week since he returned to Seoul and she never heard anything from him since then. Only Eun Young messaged her to tell her that Carter was back home safely.
“You really don't want to join us in Tagaytay? That would be fun.” Mikha was now standing by the door of her room. "I thought you would be happier if you go back to Korea.”
"I don't know how I can be happy."
“Definitely not by sulking here. Come on. You already know the truth. Doc Darryl doesn’t exist anymore. Are you still mourning for him?”
Jaimee's video went viral and, as expected, people who had been her victims came forward and pressed charges against her. Mikha wanted her to file a complaint as well but Cheska decided that it was enough that she put out that video. She didn’t want to rehash the past. She just wanted to be able to move on.
“I'm not sad because of Doc Darryl. I’m thinking of Carter. I did find out the truth but I lost him in return. And I don’t know how to start. I don't know how I can have him.”
Her friend hugged her and consoled her when she started crying. "You can't blame him. He just wants to make sure if you really like him and not the illusion or the ghost of another person you see in him.”
"But how do I do that?"
“Tell him why you love him. That your feelings for him have nothing to do with him looking like Doc Darryl. He said he still feels insecure even if it's just an illusion. Tell him that you love the real him, imperfections and all. And I've figured out a way on how you would do that,” her friend said and winked at her.
REASON WHY I LOVE CARTER MENESES #79
He is afraid of heights but braved the zipwire from Gapyeong to Nami Island just to be with me. He held my hand while singing A Whole New World. The perfect Alladin.
Cheska sipped on her milk tea after posting a new entry on social media. She also posted a picture of Carter taken by a zipwire camera.
She was in the room waiting for Mikha to arrive. It's their BFF day and this was their only boding time without her boyfriend.
She had been posting her reasons on why she loves Carter for three months now. She even started having followers because of that and the avid ones were Eun Young and the Gangster Juniors who were always cheered on her entries. So many others were also inspired by her posts. There was even a TV magazine program that called her for an interview but she refused. Almost everyone had noticed her posts except for that one person who she really wanted to read it - Carter.
She never got any message from him. He didn’t even have any idea about her posts when she was always tagging him. Three months felt like long enough and she was running out of ideas on how she could prove that she loves him.
A lot has changed about her since she returned from Korea. She tried to go out with her colleagues and also made new friends. In her free time, she volunteers in the shelter for children who had been victims of violence. She even sponsored two kids so they could continue their education. She was now the Cheska who Carter changed. She felt like her life has more meaning now. The only thing, or person, that was missing in her life was Carter.
"I want you to date someone,” Mikha said as soon as she arrived. “I know you will like him.”
"Miks, I have no plans on dating someone.”
"Carter said you should try going out with other guys.”
“I already did. And they all became my good friends. I don't think it will ever work. It was Carter that I love.”
"Just try it. For the last time. He is coming here soon. He will fetch you.”
“What? You are crazy,” she complained to her friend. “Today is our BFF day. Boys are not allowed.”
"But I love you, friend." They heard someone ring the doorbell. "I think he's already there."
Cheska ran to her room. She would not face their visitor who looked like he would only just hang out in her house. This was not in her plan. She was about to close the door of her room when she heard the voice of her date.
"Anneong hasaeyo," he greeted Mikha. "Is Cheska ready?"
"Carter," she whispered and turned to the man. He looked like an apparition in long sleeve black shirt and jeans. He was carrying a paper bag and flowers. Was it really Carter or just someone who only looks like him? She walked towards him without a thought. She didn’t care if she looked like a witch in her crumpled shirt and without a slipper. She hasn’t seen him in three months. And she missed him so badly. She also had a lot of things to say to him. But all she could say was, "H-Hi!"
