LIS: 56

CHESKA KNOCKED on the door of Jaimee’s house in Bataan. It wasn’t the same simple apartment Jaimee’s family rented when she first visited her a year ago. The house was a two-story house and was not far from the apartment they used to live in. It seemed like their living has improved a lot. But she even managed to ask me for money two months ago. Her house is even better than mine.
She was able to speak with Jaimee’s mother last night after she arrived from Korea. She found out that Jaimee hadn't left. That she was still in Bataan and was looking after the construction of their new house. She told Jaimee’s mother that she would visit the next day but that she didn’t have to tell her daughter because Cheska wanted to surprise her. She also found out that only Jaimee would be left at home because the old woman was going to visit Jaimee's brother who was living in the other because her grandson was sick.
Carter knocked on the door when there was still no answer from inside the house. He was leaning against the wall on the side of the door. He wouldn’t be seen easily from that there. He looked gorgeous in his short-sleeve denim shorts and brown pants. He was also wearing sunglasses. It was not obvious that he still had not any sleep and was tired from the trip.
While Cheska could feel the strain all over her body. She was really tired. The truth was that she could no longer feel anything. She hasn’t had any rest since Carter confronted her on what he found about Doc Darryl. They had to cut their trip short. They immediately returned to Seoul that afternoon. She just distracted herself by shopping for souvenirs with Eun Young. There was nothing unusual with them. Carter only told his sister that he looked like Doc Darryl. He didn’t tell them yet about what he found out. He probably didn’t want his family to treat her differently.
But when she was with Carter, they were not talking with each other except when he would ask her if she needed anything or if they needed to talk about Jaimee. They were together but it felt like he was so far away from her. And if she wouldn’t be able to control her emotions, she would burst out crying. But she must hold her emotion. This was not the time to cry because they still have to finish a mission.
And then the door finally opened. Jaimmee looked surprised to see her.
"Ate Che!" She hugged her tightly. "I miss you."
"I miss you, too," she said affectionately but at that moment she just wanted to strangle Jaimee. You, bitch! "And you’re the one who doesn’t contact me." Except when you need money and tell me how much you miss Doc Darryl. It was just now that she realized the strange things in her actions that she used to never put any other thoughts of.
Jaimee pulled her inside the house but let the door remain open. “You know how it was at the healing camp. They wanted us to stay away from social media. How are you?”
So this house is a healing camp now. When did this place become General Santos? But then again, who wouldn’t be healed if your life improved like this? I was a sponsor, why am I not informed?
“Good. I visited Doc Darryl in Korea.”
Jaimee’s face suddenly lost its color. “Oh! Oh, really? I-in Jeju Island? Y-you saw his grave?” Her voice was quivering. She tried to recover but Cheska already noticed how Jaimee’s eyes move.
“Even better,” she said. "I brought him here so you could see him." That was the signal for Carter to show up.
He stood by the door and took off his sunglasses. "Hello, cousin!"
Jaimee’s face looked like it was drained with blood. She stepped back. "W-Who are you?"
"Who am I? I am Kang Jung Rin according to you. Aren’t you the one who created me? Aren't you glad to see me alive, cousin?”
Jaimee’s eyes looked she was asking for help when she turned to Cheska. "Unnie, what’s the meaning of this?”
"You’re busted. We already know about your modus operandi,” Carter answered for Cheska because she didn’t know what to say to Jaimee. She might not be able to hold her tongue and say something she would regret later. “You fool people using a man’s picture, created a bogus account, make them fall in love, and then ask them money. Just like what you did to Cheska. Correct?”
Jaimee shook her head. "That's not true." She turned to Cheska. "Unnie, do you think I will do that to you?"
Cheska clenched her palm. "We’ve already put you on a blotter,” she said. “Carter and I will file a case in court. We have strong evidence against you because I have saved our conversations and how you used his pictures to pretend to be Doc Darryl. That’s a cybercrime, Jaimee.”
"What else can we dig against you, cousin?" Carter asked and sat down on the sofa. “That you don’t have an illness? That you didn’t leave Bataan? I’m pretty sure you’re also the one who paid for this house. Does your parents know who the sponsors are for this project? Too bad you won't be able to enjoy this when you’re behind bars.”
Jaimee covered her mouth and shook her head. “Please don’t. I still have a lot of dreams. I-I still have to go to Korea. My boyfriend is waiting for me.”
Carter frowned. “What a sad story. But it's not as sad when you killed me, right? Cheska mourned for me for six years. I didn’t even know that she had loved me for six years and been offering candles for my dearly departed soul. That’s cruel.”
