As expected, her grandmother was standing by the parking lot when the car entered. I wasn’t sure if she was mad or not but she wasn't smiling at all.
“Where did you wander after the program ended? It’s already late and you just came home now?” she said
“Nana, something unexpected happened that is why I came home late.” Athena answered
“Get inside the house!” her grandmother said in a firm voice
“Good evening.” I said
“Huh? Vladimir. What are you doing here? I didn’t expect that you would still be with Athena.” she said with a cheerful voice
“Look at this old woman. She suddenly changed her tone of voice.” Athena said before going inside the house.
Her grandmother's face changed and glared at her after what she said but smiled again when she looked at me.
“I can’t let you go home this late so you have to spend the night here again. You can go home tomorrow.” she said before she pushed me to go inside.
I heard her thank the driver and let him go home to take a rest since it was already late. I wanted to explain that I can still go home but she pulled inside the house.
“Now, I want answers from both of you. Are you dating?” she said
“Nana! What are you saying? We just happened to be together and you’re assuming that we’re dating.” Athena blurted out
“I was just asking. You don’t have to be annoyed. I will also disagree if you’re dating because you’re still young.” Nana said before smacking Athena’s arm.
Both of us made a hurt face since I could feel how painful that smack is because it landed on her wound.
“Ouch!” Athena cried
“Wha.., What’s wrong? I didn’t smack you too hard.” she said before pulling my jacket that was covering Athena’s arm.
Her eyes widened as Athena blew on her painful arm. Nana looked at the two of us back and forth with curiosity while waiting for an explanation.
“I injured myself accidentally after the program was over. I didn’t know that I got hurt and I only noticed it when I felt something sticky on my arm which was blood from my wound.” Athena explained
“She passed out after that which made her phone like this and that was the reason why we weren’t able to contact you. We brought her to the hospital to have her wound stitched up. It wasn’t that wide but it’s deep so it still needs to be stitched.” I continued explaining
“Let me see. Thank goodness and Vladimir was there to catch you when you fainted. I wouldn’t have known what to do if no one was with you.” Nana said worriedly
“I told you to always be careful because you can’t even handle looking at a lot of blood and gross-looking wounds.” Nana said to Athena
“I’m still intact. It is just a small stitch.” Athena jokes
“What did the doctor say about your wound?” she asked again
“She just needs to clean and change the dressing to avoid infection. She also needs to go back after a week.” I explained again since Athena was in a daze at the hospital and kept on fainting.
“How can I leave you alone if you cannot even bear to look at some blood?” Nana said faintly
“It wasn’t just blood Nana. It was literally dripping. You know that I wouldn’t just pass out because of blood.” Athena said
“I will heat up the food that I make so you can have dinner before you go to bed. Give some pajamas to Vladimir later so he can change his clothes because I could see some bloodstains on his shirt.” Nana said before heading to the kitchen.
“Do you want to take a shower first?” Athena asked me.
“ I will just wash up and change my clothes since my shirt really has some stains.” I said
“Follow me upstairs then. You can use the room that you used last time to take a quick shower. I will leave the pajamas in the bed.” she said
“You can go to bed now Nana and we will fend for ourselves. Don’t worry too much about what happened since it happened unexpectedly. No need to report it to Dad.” I heard Athena say as I entered the kitchen.
“Okay. I will leave you two alone and I will go now to sleep. Enjoy your dinner and then go to sleep afterward.” her grandmother said before leaving the kitchen.
Athena smiled when she saw me and then told me to sit down and eat. We both started eating silently before she broke the silence between us.
“I’m really thankful for what you did today but can you keep it a secret from my friends? When I say friends I’m talking about Jessica and May.” she said
“Why?”
“I don’t want them to know that I got hurt when I bumped into Daniel. They might hate him. Daniel didn’t really have any fault since I was the one who bumped into him.” I said
“Is there something going on between you and Daniel? I can’t really understand if you hate him or are trying to protect him.” I asked
“I may not feel comfortable with him but I wouldn’t want other people to blame him for what happened.” she answered
I nodded my head to make her feel that I understand even if I had doubts and there is something that she is not telling me. I felt closer to her since I knew one of her weaknesses even if I’m not sure if she wanted me to know it.
“What are you going to do about your phone? It was totally broken and it may take some time for it to be repaired.” I asked
“It doesn’t really matter since I can live without my phone. I can use Nana’s phone to talk to Dad. I also have a computer that I can use.” she answered
I wanted to ask for her number since I deleted the one that Daniel passed to me when Henry asked for it before. What if she decided not to have her phone repaired? I shook my head to get rid of that thought. I have to think positively if I want to be closer to her.
“Aren’t you going to school tomorrow? There are still some games that will be having their championships.” I asked
“I don’t know because I will surely wake up late. It’s already past midnight and I am not sure if my arm will not throb later. But you can freely go if you want. Just don’t forget to say goodbye to Nana.” she answered
“Let’s see what is going to happen tomorrow since I might also wake up late. I am already feeling tired since I played two games when they insisted on having the championship this afternoon.” I said
“I don’t know if I should feel awkward that you’re here again at our house even if we are not that close. My friends haven’t even slept over here two times.” she said chuckling
“It’s also my first time to sleep in another person's house except for my relatives.” I answered
“Then I hope you aren’t feeling uncomfortable having to sleep and stay at our humble abode.” she said smiling widely
I was stunned when I saw her smile that wide for the reason that she never smiled at me in that way. I only saw her smile that wide to only her close friends.
“Your grandmother is very accommodating so it’s not uncomfortable at all.” I said
“You might be tired so you can go and take a rest now. I can clean up alone since we only used a few things.” she said
“Oh, I almost forgot. You have to call Allyson and inform him that you’re home safely. He was the one who carried you to the hospital.” I said
“It’s late and he might be sleeping already. I will talk to him on Monday instead.” she said
“Then send him a message at least so he will know when he wakes up. He might go and look for you at the hospital.” I said
“Can you send him a text message then? Do you have his number?”
I nodded before I sent a message to Allyson. I have just sent the message when I received a call.
“Allyson is calling. Should I pick it up?” I asked
“I guess so but how could I hold your phone when my hand is full of soap?” she said
I answered the call and then held it in her ear while leaning near the sink beside her. She looked at me thankfully as she talked to Allyson.
“Hello. Why are you still awake when it’s late? Don’t worry because I am at home safe and sound.” she said
“Ummm no. I am using Vladimir's phone since mine is totally broken. If I don't see you tomorrow then I will see you on Monday. Okay, have a good rest and good luck with your game tomorrow.” she said goodbye
