“Why? Are you going there already?” she said before running away
I got annoyed by her teasing since a lot of students could hear what she was saying. I ran after her as we went against the crowd. I was so determined to catch her that I did not notice someone coming my way. I lost my balance when I bumped into someone which made me sit down. I looked up to see Daniel looking down at me. He didn’t even bother to offer his hand to help me up.
“Why are you sitting there so pitifully?” I heard Allyson’s voice
“Ouch!” I said as I felt a tang of pain from my hand that I instinctively extended to stop me from getting hurt from the fall.
“Are you okay?”Allyson said worriedly as he sat down near me.
“Yeah. I just felt some pain in my hand.” I said
Vladimir also came running when he saw me fall down. I was surprised when he assisted me in standing up while ignoring Daniel and brought me back to the seats by the gate.
“We should go there since we are blocking the way here. More people will be coming down.” he said
I felt my arm become numb as we sat by the gate while waiting for the jeep that will fetch Jessica and the other students to bring them home. I didn’t mind it because I thought that it was normal since I fell a little hard. Faint lights that were coming also from the classrooms above are the only lightning we used so I ignored the pain from my hand. I was supposed to ride with the jeep since it will pass by our house but there was no space available.
“It’s okay. You can go home first and I will walk home. It’s not that far and I have Vladimir and Allyson with me.” I said
“We will see you on Monday then. Be careful and make sure to send a message when you arrive at home.” Jessica and May said
We were watching the jeep go when we heard Allyson’s friends calling him. I could see the hesitation on Allyson’s face so I smiled and pushed him to go.
“Are you sure that you can go home alone?” he asked
“I’m going to be fine. I still have Vladimir with me.” I said
He was still talking when I felt the tang of pain from my hand. It was more painful this time that I cannot avoid frowning. I reached for my phone to light my hand and saw blood dripping from a cut in my arm. There was a hole in my jacket that was wet from blood. I swallowed hard as I slowly removed my jacket to check on the wound. Looking at the blood running down my arm gave me goosebumps that I felt my world getting dark.
VLADIMIR’S POV
I noticed Athena frowning and making faces as if she was hurting somewhere. I saw her use the light from her phone screen to check her arm. I wasn’t sure if I was seeing things but I think I saw some blood. Allyson was talking to me so I could only see what she was doing on the side of my eye. I saw her removing her jacket before I panicked because she suddenly fainted. I was able to catch her but her phone made a thud sound as it fell on the road.
“What’s wrong?” Allyson asked
“I don’t know. She just fainted. Can you pick up her phone?” I said as I held her in my arm
“The screen is totally broken and I cannot turn it on.” he said
“Can you turn on the flashlight of your phone? We needed to check on her arm because I felt something wet.” I said
“This is bad! We need to bring her to the hospital because her arm is bleeding.” Allyson said as she carried her and ran to the hospital.
It was a good thing that the hospital was only within walking distance so we didn’t have a hard time. I could see traces of blood from my hand using the bright light in the hospital. The nurses on duty immediately assisted Allyson to one of the rooms for him to lay her on the bed. The nurse interviewed me as we waited for the doctor to come and check on her. I saw Allyson pacing back and forth since his friends were waiting for him outside the hospital.
“You can leave her to me. I will take care of her, don’t worry.” I said
“I would like to stay but I have work to do tomorrow and my friends are all waiting for me.” he said
“I understand. Leave your phone number and I will update you since her phone is broken.” I smiled to assure him
He left after making sure that I can take care of everything. I tried turning on Athena’s phone to call her grandmother but I couldn't check it because of the broken screen. I cannot call grandmother Victoria because it was late. I saw her slowly opening her eyes as the nurse was cleaning her wound.
“What happened?” she asked in an unstable voice
“You fainted so we have to bring you to the hospital.” I said
She looked at the nurse that was cleaning her wound and swallowed hard. Her eyes started to waver and her pale lips frowned due to the pain.
“The doctor will be coming soon to stitch your wound since it is deep.” the nurse said
She stared at her wound when the doctor started stitching it and fainted again. I thought that maybe she fainted due to the pain but I saw the doctor gave her anesthesia before they started.
“You can go home after she wakes up and tell her to come back after a week.” the doctor said in a patient voice.
They didn’t admit her since she only had some stitches on her wound so we can freely go home. She regained consciousness again after some time and looked around the room again. I helped her sit down so she would not strain the wound.
“How are you feeling?” I asked her
“Is it done?” she asked while avoiding looking at her arm.
“Yeah, they said that you need to come back after a week and we are free to go home.” I explained
“Have you called my grandma?”
“I don’t have her number and your phone can’t be opened since the whole screen broke when you fainted. It is already late so I can’t call grandma Victoria to ask for her number.”
“Can I borrow your phone? I will try to call the driver if he is still awake.” she asked for a favor
I handed her my phone and to our relief, the driver was still awake so he was able to answer the call. He informed us that he will be there as soon as he can. We went outside the hospital and waited for the driver. I could see her feeling cold so I gave her my jacket since she cannot wear her jacket that was soaked with blood.
“What about you? Aren’t you feeling cold?” she asked
“I’m fine since I have too much heat in my body. I’m worried that your arm might throb if you will feel cold.”
“I’m sorry that you had to go through all this trouble because of me. You should be sleeping now if I didn’t get hurt.” she was so apologetic while looking at me.
“I am your friend now so I should help you in any way I can.”
“What happened? Why are you at the hospital?” the driver asked worriedly when he arrived.
“Don’t worry about it. I just hurt my arm unexpectedly.” she said while showing it to the driver
“How could I not worry when you called too late and told me to fetch you at the hospital? It was a relief that I did not go to sleep yet and was still waiting for your call.” he scolded her while checking on the stitches of her arm.
“Don’t be too alarmed. Just a few stitches and I am good as new.” she smiled
The driver told us to get in the car since it is getting late. We were on the way home when Athena whispered something to me so the driver couldn't hear it.
“Can I ask you for a favor?” she said
“What is it?”
“Will you help me explain to Nana what happened and why I have to go home this late? I’m sure she is still awake and waiting for me to come home. I can’t remember what happened after I suddenly passed out soo..” she said
“Ummm... Yeah, no problem with me. I will accompany you to explain everything.”
“Thanks. I will tell the driver to drive you home after. But remember not to tell her that I got hurt.” she said
