“Aren’t you coming in to say hi to Nana?” I asked
“No, I need to get going because I will be going back to the city tomorrow. Tell her that I dropped by and said hi,” he said
“Okay, take care then. Safe travel for tomorrow since I might not be able to see you off.” I said
He smiled before putting on his helmet and driving off. I went inside when I could not see him anymore. I stared at the gift that he has given me after changing my clothes and wondered if I should open it.
“What are you staring at? Will the box open on its own if you stare at it for some time? Is it going to pop so I know if I should ready my heart?” Nana whispered
“Nana! You startled me. When did you get here?” I asked
“I kept on calling you but you are not answering so I came up to check on you. Who gave you that gift?” she asked again
“Ace. He picked me up from school but he will be going back to the city tomorrow that’s why he did not come inside.”
“That friend of yours. Don’t tell me something is going on between you.”
“What do you mean finally? Nothing is going on between the two of us.”
“Then what is that thing?” she pointed at the box in front of us
“I don’t know. I haven’t opened it yet.”
Then what are you waiting for? Open it so we can check what is inside. It is making me curious since it is big.”
“Okay. Why are you so interested in what is inside the box?” I said as I open the box slowly
“Oh, chocolates. He didn’t forget your sweet tooth and your preference for having food as gifts. Is that a dress?” Nana kept on commenting as I check on the things inside the box
“Do you think Ace might be out of his mind? What will I do with those? ” I asked Nana as we both stared at two dresses on my bed
“Why don’t you try them on? He must have brought it for you to use on your prom so you won’t have any excuses.”
“Do I have to use those? Are you sure that you want me to wear them?” I said
“Why not? Go and try them on. I’ll take a picture and what’s the use of the full body mirror if you will not use it.” she said while pushing me inside the dressing room before shoving the dresses in my arms.
“What do you think?” I asked Nana as soon as I got out
“It’s pretty, simple and its sleeves are long and it is in black which you love. I don’t know about your Dad though,” she answered
“It’s not that bad but are you okay with the neckline. Why does it seem too low or was it the camera angle?” Dad said
“Why did you call him?” I said to Nana
“I didn’t. He called and I only answered. It must have slipped on my lips and told him that you were trying on some dresses for your prom.”
“Th neckline and fit are just fine. It is not that revealing at all. I like that it is an elegant casual dress.” I told Dad
“How about the other one? Go and put it on so I can judge which one you should use,” he said
“I’m the one who is going to wear it so why would you decide on what I will wear,” I said to my Dad
“I know but I should still see what kind of dress or gown you will wear. I may not be there but I still want to be part of those events,” he said
“Which one do suggest for me to use then?” I asked
“Do you have any heels to pair with your dress?”
“I think I have 10 sandals I haven’t used anywhere in the house. You bought a lot even if I don’t need them.” I answered

I sighed and turned on my bed as I swipe on the photos on my phone. I am feeling nervous as I clicked send. I dropped my phone beside me and then covered myself with my blanket. I got surprised when I heard my phone ring. I reached for it with my eyes close and slowly opened my right eye to check.
“Whew! That’s a relief.” I said when I saw where the message came from
I felt my heart thumping again when I heard my phone ring for the second time. I held my breath as I slowly checked where the message was from. I calmed myself as I opened the message. I shrieked without sound on my pillow.
Ace had sent a heart reaction to the pictures that I sent him. He also sent a short message as a response to my message.
“I didn’t expect you to send some pictures. By the way, you look gorgeous in those dresses. Simple yet elegant.” he said
I would be a hypocrite if I will not admit that I liked his compliment. I wasn’t showing off the fit of the dresses to him, I just told him that I was annoyed and had to try on the dresses since Nana saw them.
“Err thanks. I will surely use one of them on the prom.” I answered
A compliment from a person that you like seriously makes a difference. I laid down in bed smiling while having the phone on my chest when I heard my phone ringing. I rolled my eyes before answering the call.
“What?” I said
“How rude! Can’t you say hello nicely?” Vladimir said
“Why are you fighting? Lovers quarrel?” Jackson teased after joining the call
“I heard lovers quarrel. Did I miss something?” Henry asked next
“What is this call for?” Jessica asked
“Am I too late? What did I miss?” May asked next
“Do we have an assignment that I was not aware of? What is this video call for?” Daniel asked
“Oh, nothing. I just wanted to waste your time because I am bored.” Vladimir laughed
“It’s late and time for bed. If it is not that important then I will end the call before my parents will notice.” May said
“We should leave according to the time we entered the call. The first one who answered will be the last.” Jessica said
“That is not fair. I was the one who answered first and I will be the last.” I complained
I saw Daniel smile before leaving the call and the rest of them followed. I glared at Vladimir who was laughing.
“What is wrong with you? Why would you call everyone just because you are bored?” I just started ranting when he ended the call.
I am cursing him on my mind when I saw him calling again. This time it wasn’t on the group chat, he is calling me personally. I sighed first before answering the call.
“What do you want now? I am going to bed so tell me what you want to say fast.” I said
“I want to ask you out for the prom.” he finally said after some time
“Daniel asked me out first so I think I will go with him,” I said
“I am also asking you out now and he would understand if you will choose me.”
“Or he would find it unfair that you will be my date when he asked me out first,” I said
“Then tell him that I asked you out first.”
“Are you telling me to lie? Why would I go to the prom with you?”
“Because I am your friend.”
“Daniel is also my friend. What difference does that make?”
“But I wanted to go to the prom with you. I want to be your date on that day,” he mumbled
“Then you should have asked me first. I wanted to be fair with everyone.” I said
“What if it was Ace who asks you out? Would you still choose Daniel because he asked you out first?”
“Why are you mentioning Ace here? This has nothing to do with Ace and he would not ask me out. He doesn’t have a reason to do that even if he is still in here.” I asked confused
“Because you like him. If someone you like asks you out, what would you do? Who will you choose?” he said
I know that I was very open in saying that I like Ace. I did like him before but I have grown out of it. I still like him though not in a romantic way. Sometimes I cannot understand why everyone keeps on asking about crushes so I have no choice but to tell them that it is Ace. He already graduated so it is not a big deal and that is also another way of hiding the person I like.
