Chapter 51 Absurdity
“Mom, can you please take a seat.”
My mother walking back and forth with her upturned eyebrows and her pursed lips she was staring at the floor as she made her steps. She’s been doing it for a minute or two. I don’t know if I calculated the time she spent just by merely walking with her high heeled shoes.
“What’s wrong, Mom? Oh for the…” I shut my mouth when her eyes went towards me. Her sharp gaze is now piercing with her look.
“A letter has been sent. Your great grandmother.” She paused and shut me a look again. Slowly she softens her gaze.
She went to seat on the cushion. “No matter how I hated that woman… She’s still your father’s mother.”
I was now confused. Standing-I went to sit beside her. Putting enough space between us. She was now quiet.
I get it. Mom put up with, like a lot with the relationship she had with my grandmother. They weren’t that close. There is this striking conflictions they both shared whenever they saw each other. It’s something I took notice of back when I was younger. I wasn’t close with her either. I don’t like her that much. I only like my Nana, my Mom’s mother. I haven’t even developed an established granddaughter-grandmother relationship to my father’s mother.
“It’s so clear, Azaiah. That woman is always in whenever money comes up. She’s always been in for the money. That’s why your father and I’s relationship.” She stopped and stared at me.
“I know. A marriage for…” For convenience. That wasn’t ever so convenient because the ending that happened between my mom and my father.
“What happened to her, Mom?”
“That woman has finally took a break from the world. Your grandmother is dead.”
She even talks with… I started to shake my head upon seeing my mom’s expression. She’s trying so hard to emphatized with the situation even deep down she knows that she didn’t had the kind of feeling for her.
“And the letter?” I inquired, wanting to know what my grandmother wrote.
“I’m sorry my child but she didn’t wrote her apologies for committing her schemes for trying to play your father and I’s relationship under her controlling ulterior motives. And sadly she didn’t even wrote your name on her last will. She didn’t even left you a property for your inheritance. Ahhh!” My mom exaggeratedly clicked her tongue.
“That old…”
“Mom, spare her with your curses please. She’s already dead.” And may her soul rest for good.
She huffed, releasing her breath. “She wanted us. Us… Your father, you, and I to spent days together to mourn her funeral. That’s her request.” Her faces says it all. She couldn’t believe that my grandmother wrote it. “It’s an odd request, Azaiah.”
I couldn’t give my realest reaction. Mom’s expression is a bit funny for me. “I think we should at least fulfill it, for her.”
“Azaiah!” She exasperatedly heaved another breathy release with enough exaggeration on the side.
“I cannot take this.’ She stood up. Her heels had this clacking sound. She was going somewhere in whatever part of house she wants to be in.
“Where are you going?” I asked her.
“To drink. I need a drink, Azaiah.”
“A glass of wine, Mom. You’re needing a glass of wine. Am I right?” I said, knowing that this is the kind of drink she’s pertaining.
Mom enjoyed wine so much. Different from my father who is into heavy alcoholic drinks. Those drinks that has the ability to knock off his senses, those kind of drinks are my father’s favorite.
“Not only just a glass, Azaiah. I need a whole bottle.” She pranced off leaving me in the living room with my mouth hanging opened.
She’s really… I shake my head again.
I sat while trying to think about what I heard earlier.
His hair was a mess and his eyes were tired. He was still attractive for me. I distract myself when I caught him looking at me. He stopped… He should’ve kicked the ball.
“Galen. What are you doing?” Ehaan’s voice was firm.
I didn’t look and walked. I kept on walking. I still need to do something. I still need to write the homework that splattered another fascinating passionate feeling out of me. It’s about giving my own conceptual description about the lotus that grows on muddy waters. I need to prepare my answer. It’s needed. Or else I will end up stammering while saying it if I wouldn’t write it in details. It’s good rather relying on my mind for its ability to elaborate my thoughts on the exact day tomorrow. Being prepared always helps me a lot. It helps me of perform anything I do better. It’s the key for me to do things effectively. I stood up, never really looked back to even deep down I am itching to move my neck to see what’s happening.
“Awe.” We both said in unison. I went and crouch; getting my stuffs I stood only to stare at Calli who is looking at me.
“I am sorry. I wasn’t looking.” I clearly didn’t look as I walk. I was busy thinking. What if I am in a place where it’s all about the jive and movements? I’m glad I am out here in the open, in the fields. Not in the busy streets.
“I am sorry too. I was in a hurry.” Calli’s eyes are staring at me. “I- I am handing this to Galen, Azaiah. I’ll be back.” She hurried and went her way towards Galen .
I stared at them. I caught him staring at me straightly again. Is that all we can do to us? Stare to each other from afar and not doing anything? Will it satisfy the pull that I am feeling? The gravitational pull that’s too strong to be ignored is still here. It hasn’t change. Even after the strife that added a taint in our connection.
“Boo!!!” Someone managed to push me in gently.
“You weren’t surprise?” Thea asked.
I wasn’t. It was a light touch. The “boo” didn’t even startled me.
“No.” I showed her a smile.
She started frowning. “Here I thought I somehow surprised you. You didn’t even budge.”
I only smiled at her in return. My eyes went back from where I used to look a while ago when Thea hadn’t arrived yet.
“So that’s the reason!” The tone of her voice, she changed it herself while her eyes are looking with irritation at what’s from afar.
“These are really absurd. These situations are really absurd.” She sounded mad.
Shaking her head she pulled her. “Let’s go, Azaiah.” She pulled her in the opposite direction. “I see no point in hurting your eyes to the view. It’s not worth the look.”
“I can’t help it. I have eyes, Thea.” I said, trying to make the air lighter.
“And? And what? Torture it?” She shook her head. “It’s not good, Azaiah. No need to hurt yourself.”
“You and him are kinda similar in your words.” Remembering what Martin said, I associated it with Thea’s.
She turned her head. “I know who you’re talking about. Don’t even try to mention his name.”
I began smiling once more. “I didn’t even try but here you are assuming that it’s already the person you are thinking about. Are you that sure that we are both thinking the same individual?” I teased her.
“Azaiah. Do… not say, anything.” She was putting a lot of emphasis on her words.
My eyes wandered and saw someone who’s running towards where we are. My smile starts to widen.
“Cloud!” I waved at him.
His focused expression turned lighter. He was smiling. Cloud was approaching us; he placed his arm, wrapping me in an embrace. His hug is light. I put my hand around him.
“What… is this?!!!” Thea stand in between. But she let them hug each other. Her eyes turned bigger. And she was looking at them revolt expression. The sight was not appealing for her to stare at.
She was not a fan with what’s in front of her. “Since when did you too become so close that physical gestures like this are done to each other? Did I miss out on anything?!!!”
I giggled which Cloud also mimicked. We both pulled out from the hug, smiling to each other.
“I gotta go to them. See you later.” His pace were fast, before he looked back and waved at me before heading towards the direction of their practice area.
Galen saw it!
I silently exclaimed in my head. He saw the hug that Cloud gave me. I back away and stared at Thea. Her expression turned sourly. She began acting like she wanted to vomit. I searched through to follow her eyes only to see Martin giving her a kiss. Martin’s eyes turned on me; he then began flying me a kiss too.Download Novelah App
