Chapter 25 Cyber War Between Vincent, Kazuto, and Lorenzo

Milea looked at him in shock. “You... should be dead! Didn't Vin shoot you?”
Lorenzo just chuckled. “The bulletproof vest saved me. Remember! Kazuto is still watching us. He thinks you killed me.”
“I see.” Now, Milea understood. They had all planned it while she was Kazuto's hostage.
A few minutes later, Vincent, Lorenzo, Valeria, Nakamura, and Ryuga had gathered in the living room of the Nakamura residence. Meanwhile, Milea was safely in her room. Her uncle had reserved a special room for her.
“I don't want Milea to get involved again,” Nakamura said. “Can we do it?”
“Of course, Mr Nakamura. I don't want it to happen again either. But, Kazuto already knows everything about my wife. Right now, he must be hunting Milea,” Vincent replied.
“Isn't Milea tough enough to be in this team?” Valeria interjected. “I've heard a lot about her, Vin.”
Vincent only smiled briefly in response. “She is. A tough woman who I love very much.”
“At least you recognise the greatness of your own wife, Vin.” Valeria sneered and glanced at Lorenzo. Her ex-husband could never be proud of her.
“Well, let's get this important meeting started. Kazuto is still waiting for our breakthrough,” Lorenzo changed the subject.
***
Vincent stands atop a skyscraper in the centre of New York City. He had something on his mind at the moment. His breathing was heavy while the holographic screen on his wrist displayed a flashing red alert.
“Shit!” Vincent cursed.
Kazuto had taken over the global satellite network, directing it to disrupt the financial, communications, and even defence systems of major nations. The world was on the brink of chaos. If he was still obsessed with ruling the world.
“He's... like Mr X Black Knight. Very dangerous,” Vincent thought.
At the secret headquarters hidden underground, Lorenzo spoke through encrypted communications.
“Vin, now is your chance. Kazuto has ensnared the world in his crazy game. You can get out of this game. Or you might want to rule with me,” Lorenzo offered.
Vincent gritted his teeth. “I'm not your pawn, Lorenzo. And I'm not the kind of greedy man who wants to rule the world. Mark that!”
Vincent's warning was dismissed as a bluff by Lorenzo.
“Really?” Lorenzo's voice sounded soft, but full of poison. “Are you absolutely sure Kazuto is not the same mastermind as us?”
“Haven't you guys always dreamed of creating a world of peace without bad guys? This time, with me... we create the world according to your wishes,” Lorenzo said trying to influence him again.
On Vincent's screen, Kazuto appeared with a satisfied grin. “Too late, Vin. I've seen all the possibilities. And I know your choice.”
“What?” Vincent widened his eyes in shock.
Suddenly, all the systems around Vincent began to fail, possibly completely. The once brightly lit city was now shrouded in darkness due to a total power outage. In the sky, satellites began to direct their signals, transmitting electromagnetic waves that could cripple every defence system in the world.
“I will not let Kazuto rule the world,” Vincent resolved.
Without fear or hesitation Vincent leapt off the building, sliding with a grappling hook before landing on the balcony of an apartment. As soon as his feet hit the floor, he felt something strange there. His breath caught as he looked at the holographic screen on his arm. It turned out that the system had been hacked. Kazuto had gotten into her mind, into every piece of data she stored.
And to make matters worse, another notification appeared at the same time.

Vincent's eyes widened in shock. It was not Kazuto who hacked him, but he himself.
A chuckle sounded from his communication device. Lorenzo.
“You didn't realise, right? Actually, I implanted that protocol in your memory a long time ago. You're not just Kazuto's target, Vin. You're the key,” Lorenzo said.
Vincent's mini monitor screen suddenly displayed a live broadcast: Presidents from various countries appeared on the screen, all with panicked expressions. Kazuto stood in the centre of the room, holding a tablet with one finger hovering over the keys.
“The world is at my fingertips, Vin. Now, you only have two choices: save the world, or remember who you really are.”
Before Vincent could respond, the screen went black. “Shit!” cursed Vincent.
Everything on the screen went black. The sound of Vincent's heartbeat was clearly audible in his ears, combined with the sound of sirens wailing throughout the city. In the sky, Kazuto's satellites were spinning like invisible spies. Apparently he had sent out electromagnetic waves that paralysed the global system.
“You only have two choices: save the world, or remember who you really are,” Kazuto repeated, which broke Vincent's concentration.
Kazuto's voice was still ringing in Vincent's head, but now there was another voice whispering deeper, more familiarly. Lorenzo's voice.
“You're the key, Vin. Kazuto is not your enemy... he's just a reflection of what you can achieve.”
Suddenly, the pain was so intense in Vincent's head. Vague memories began to emerge. Protocols that she had never realised were active in her mind. Like layers of fog being lifted, Vincent saw something shocking in his past, that he had once worked alongside Kazuto.
“You bastard!” Vincent was forced to pull over. He would re-strategise when he went to battle in the cyber world with Kazuto and Lorenzo.
Vincent immediately contacted Ryuga. “I need you and Ghost's help. We'll meet at the base, don't let anyone know. It's a secret,” Vincent ordered.
“Okay. I understand,” Ryuga replied.
In a hidden room in the underground system, Vincent hacked into the global network. His hands moved quickly, codes flashing on the holographic screen before him. Security systems in various parts of the world began to cripple, one by one.

His eyes widened. No, this was not a hack from Kazuto. This was the result of Lorenzo's manipulation.
He had already chosen.
Meanwhile, at another base, Kazuto stood in front of a giant screen displaying a map of all the countries in the world. Each red dot indicated a server under attack. But there was something different. The pattern wasn't random like a normal hack. This is too neat, too systematic, he thought.
“This isn't just an ordinary cyberattack,” Kazuto muttered, his eyes narrowing sharply. He began to suspect something.
The screen in front of him suddenly changed, showing new codes entering his system. Line after line of code ran like a digital snake, dismantling his security system.
“Vin...?”
Kazuto immediately understood what was happening. Lorenzo had succeeded. Vincent had reversed course.
“I have to stop this.” Kazuto activated the anti-hacking programme, re-locking his system, but it was too late. Vincent had already gone too deep into his security system.
Suddenly, the screen flickered. Vincent's voice was heard from Kazuto's internal communication system.
“Kazuto... I remember everything.”
Kazuto let out a long breath. “So, you chose to become their weapon?”
“No, I didn't. I chose to be myself.”
Instantly, the lights in Kazuto's room went out. He felt something unprecedented, it could be the destruction of the system he built himself.
