“Lorenzo?” Milea widened her eyes in surprise at Lorenzo's arrival. “What are you doing here?” asked Lorenzo flatly. “Where's Vin and Ryuga?” “They're still in the warehouse,” Milea said under her breath. “I see.” Lorenzo understood. That's why he waited for the right time to appear before Milea. The harbour that night was so quiet, only the sound of the waves crashing and the night breeze hitting Milea's frightened face on the run. Her breathing was ragged, her body filled with adrenaline as she tried to avoid the pursuit of Kazuto's men. Milea didn't expect to meet Lorenzo there. Just as she was about to move, a gunshot suddenly rang out, a bullet almost hitting her shoulder. She gasped, her body lurching backwards. However, before Milea could fall, a strong hand pulled her to the side, bringing her body behind a metal container. Milea gasped for air, her eyes widening at the sight of Lorenzo before her. “You?” she whispered in shock. “Shut up! There are snipers around,” Lorenzo said firmly, pulling her further into the shadows. Another bullet whizzed by and slammed into the container wall. Lorenzo groaned softly, his shoulder scratched by a bouncing piece of metal. Milea looked at him doubtfully, wanting to leave immediately, but she knew there was no other choice but to follow Lorenzo at least for now. Swiftly, Lorenzo led her to a small warehouse hidden in the harbour area. Once they got inside, Milea immediately let go of Lorenzo's grip violently. “It's all your fault!” Milea exclaimed with suppressed anger. “If you hadn't interfered, Vin wouldn't be in danger right now!” Lorenzo sighed heavily, staring at Milea with a sharp gaze. “I never intended to harm Vincent. But if we don't settle this now, it's Kazuto who will win.” “I don't care. I just want Vin to be safe!” Milea retorted in a trembling voice. “And you think I don't care?” Lorenzo leaned closer, his face inches away from Milea's. “Do you know how far I've gone to destroy Kazuto? I'm not doing this for myself, but to make sure you both survive.” Milea was silent, her breathing still ragged. Anger and fear mixed together. She wanted to hate Lorenzo, but deep down, she knew there was sincerity behind his words. However, before Milea could respond, the sound of footsteps could be heard outside. Lorenzo turned his head quickly, pulling a gun from his holster. “We're not done yet, Milea. But now, we have to survive first.” One shot hit its mark, hitting a sniper in the lower abdomen. At that moment, Lorenzo was fighting with Kazuto's sniper. Lorenzo's gun slipped from his grasp, and Milea hurriedly picked it up to protect herself. After Lorenzo managed to subdue the sniper, Milea suddenly gave him a surprise that he had never thought of. “Milea, what's wrong?” Lorenzo held up both hands. Milea gripped the gun tightly in her hand, the tip of the barrel aimed right at the head of Lorenzo who was sitting on the chair with his hands tied now. The dim light from the chandelier in the old warehouse trembled faintly, following the tension that enveloped the room. Milea's breathing was heavy, her thoughts even more chaotic. “You won't provoke me easily, Lorenzo,” Milea said firmly. “So, you're following Kazuto's words to kill me?” retorted Lorenzo in his arrogant tone. “If I kill you, Kazuto's network will certainly collapse,” Milea muttered rather quietly, her eyes piercing towards Lorenzo. Lorenzo, the man who had been considered a mere pawn in Kazuto's game, only smiled faintly. “And if you let me live, you might lose Vin. Are you ready to accept the consequences?” Milea's heart was racing. Lorenzo's words pierced her deeper than she thought they would. Milea had come with the intention of finishing Lorenzo off, but something wasn't right, not what she expected. Milea could sense that the man was hiding something. “Why aren't you afraid of me?” she asked suspiciously. Lorenzo just chuckled in response. “Because I'm not your enemy. Kazuto did use me as the main access to his system, but what you don't know... I worked to bring him down from the inside,” he explained. Milea froze instantly. The girl's eyes widened, her index finger resting on the trigger slackened slightly. “What? Don't lie to me! If that's the case, why didn't you ever tell anyone? Including Vin.” “Because I was waiting for the right time. If I die now, my only chance of overthrowing Kazuto will die with me,” Lorenzo said in a serious tone. Milea tried to digest those words. If Lorenzo was right, killing him would only strengthen Kazuto's position. But if she let him live, Vincent could be in danger. An unfair choice for Milea. The sound of shoes squeaking on the wooden floor brought her to her senses. Before Milea could say anything, there was the sound of a gun firing at something. Lorenzo staggered, fresh blood spurted from his chest before his body collapsed to the floor. Milea's eyes widened, she reflexively raised her gun, but the next second her body froze. In the shadows, someone stood with the gun still smoking. “Vin?” Milea widened her eyes. Vincent's gaze was so cold, there was no emotion in his eyes. He walked slowly towards her, then whispered softly in her ear. “I can't let you choose. Don't dirty your hands with the blood of a traitor!” Vincent said. *** Vincent managed to get Milea out of the harbour before Kazuto's men arrived to attack them again. With the black car travelling fast, they left the darkness of the night behind. The streets were wet from the previous rain, the city lights glowing in the car windows. “Milea, are you okay?” asked Ryuga in the driving seat. “Yes, I'm fine,” replied Milea who was still shaking. After several hours on the road, they finally arrived at the Nakamura residence, a luxurious mansion hidden amongst the hills on the outskirts of the city. Milea got off with her body still trembling, her head full of unanswered questions. “You'll be safe here,” Vincent said flatly, but his eyes contained something deeper. “For a while.” Milea looked at him sharply. “For a while? You think Kazuto won't find us?” Before Vincent could answer, the door to the house opened. A middle-aged man with a serious face stood in the doorway. “Vin, we need to talk. Now,” Nakamura said. Vincent nodded, then turned to Milea. “Get some rest. I'll see you in your room soon.” However, just as Milea was about to step inside, a familiar voice echoed from inside the house. “You guys are really slow. I've been waiting.” Milea widened her eyes. That voice... was impossible. From within the shadows, a man appeared. Lorenzo Piero. With a faint smile, Lorenzo looked at them both. “We need to talk. Come in!” “Vin, didn't you shoot him already?” Milea didn't get the point of this whole game.
