Lorenzo smiled slightly as he watched the digital map of the world change. Kazuto's line of defence was crumbling, and the global network was now within his grasp. Lorenzo looked at Vincent who stood silently beside him. “You finally understand, Vin. This world isn't about who's right and wrong. It's about who's in control.” Vincent didn't answer at all. His hands were still on the console, his gaze blank. He had just destroyed the defence system of his old friend, Kazuto. But, inside Vincent, something was still not right. It was like there was another piece of memory that had yet to be revealed. His memories of the past with Kazuto were still ringing in his mind. Then, suddenly, a red notification flashed on his screen. [Override Detected. Protocol 0 Activated.] Lorenzo squinted. “What is this?” he asked in shock as he looked at his screen. Before Lorenzo could react, the system began to change. The world map returned to blue. And the voice they heard next made Vincent's heart race. “You think you can just beat me?” said Kazuto, who was starting to get angry with Vincent and Lorenzo's actions. “I need to end this game soon,” Vincent retorted. “Get ready!” *** Inside the dark and silent server room, only the hum of computer machinery could be heard. Milea sat in front of the holographic screen, her breath held as her fingers danced over the virtual keyboard. “What is Ryuujin-kai hiding?” Milea was very curious. She had hacked into Ryuga's system, one of the most dangerous moves she had ever made. The screen in front of her suddenly displayed a hidden folder with a high-level access code. Her heart raced as she opened it. That file should not exist. However, this... With a tap of a finger, Milea opened a video recording stored inside. “What's this?” Milea widened her eyes in shock. The video began its recording, taking place about 25 years ago. Milea's eyes were glued to the screen as the video played back the events of the past. The room in the video was dark, lit only by the computer screens lining the walls. Several men in lab coats stood around the main screen, watching something with very tense expressions. In the centre of the room, a boy of about 12 sat on a metal chair with his hands tied. His eyes were filled with fear, but there was a greater anger in them. Milea held her breath as she recognised the face. “Isn't that Kazuto?” Someone's voice was heard from behind the camera. A voice that was so familiar. [Subject 07 is ready for testing.] Milea widened her eyes. It was Vincent's voice. “Is it really Vin?” she hesitated. But something felt strange to Milea. Vincent's tone was very flat, almost like... someone who had no other choice, desperate. Another man entered the recording, standing in front of Kazuto. Lorenzo. Not only Lorenzo, there was a man who looked a lot like Vincent's father. “Listen, Son. You can cooperate, or you can become an example of the failure of this experiment.” “Who is that guy?” Milea wondered. “Could it be the professor, Vin's father?” Kazuto looked at her hatefully. “You guys ruined my life. You killed them all!” Lorenzo smiled faintly. “It wasn't me. It was Vincent's father.” Milea was transfixed. Her heart beat faster after hearing Lorenzo and Kazuto's conversation. Kazuto shouted angrily, trying to break free. But before he could move, a metal device was placed on his head. A wave of electricity ignited, and Kazuto screamed in pain. “How cruel,” thought Milea. She felt sorry for Kazuto. In the corner of the room, Vincent stood still, his face expressionless. As if he was just a pawn in this game. The recording had ended. “Impossible....” Milea really wanted to deny it. But, the video was the only evidence Nakamura, her uncle, had as Ryuujin-kai's confidant. Milea sat down limply. The trembling hand tried to close her mouth. All the questions in her mind were now answered. Kazuto wasn't just hunting Vincent because of threats. This was purely his past revenge on Vincent and his father. But what was worse... Lorenzo had manipulated everything from the start. If Vincent knew this, he probably wouldn't be able to accept the fact that he had been a part of Kazuto's destruction. But if Milea hid this fact, Kazuto would continue to hunt Vincent with unfounded anger. Or could it be that Vincent already knows all this? Her voice trembled as Milea spoke to herself, “What should I do...?” Suddenly, the security alarm sounded in the room. Milea was startled. On the screen, a notification appeared: [Access violation detected. User location tracked.] Her eyes widened. Ryuga finally knew. An intruder had entered his personal space. The server room door opened roughly. In the doorway, Ryuga stood with a cold stare and a knife in his hand. “You shouldn't have seen that, Milea,” Ryuga said warily. “I've already seen it. You guys hid it all this time from Vin, right?” “So?” Ryuga slowly approached his cousin. “Are you going to mess things up? Our plans are all laid out. So, I hope you don't interfere.” “What are you going to do with Vin later?” Milea was worried. “Vin has already planned this strategy. And he's very worried about you. For this mission, he doesn't want you involved, Milea,” Ryuga explained. “But ....” “Shut up! If you've already seen it, just keep your mouth shut! Don't let Lorenzo or Kazuto find out from you. Understood?” Ryuga ordered. “Oh my! Damn me, how did you see that video tape?” Ryuga deeply regretted it. “Then why did you keep it?” asked Milea, trying to buy time. Ryuga didn't answer. He just pulled a penknife from its sheath, twirling it between his fingers casually. But Milea knew, behind his calm demeanour, Ryuga was ready to attack her at any time. Suddenly, Ryuga disappeared from sight. Shit! Milea immediately rolled to the side, the next second Ryuga's knife stuck in the computer screen where she was sitting. A spark of electricity struck, the screen instantly shut down. “You're making me uneasy, Milea. They could accuse me of negligence in saving that video.” Ryuga leaned closer, his eyes shining sharply under the red glow of the emergency alarm. Milea didn't answer. She just kicked the table at him, seizing the moment to run for the exit. But Ryuga was faster. He pulled another knife from his arm and threw it. The knife spun in the air and Milea could only duck just before the tip pierced the wall behind her. “Stop, I said Milea!” muttered Ryuga. “I want you to shut your mouth, not run away.” Milea ran down the narrow hallways of the underground base. Her hand moved quickly on her wrist, activating the communication system. “Vin! I'm in trouble at Ryuga's underground server location! I have something you need to see!” Static. There was no answer. Damn, they've cut off the communication signal.
