Chapter 28 Deadly Hard Choices
“This place will be destroyed.”
“Milea, run!” Vincent shouted.
Windows shattered, flames soared from the hallways, and walls began to crumble from the explosion. Kazuto's team had launched a full assault.
Lorenzo smiled wryly. “This seems to be the decider.”
Instantly, Lorenzo activated a small device in his hand and the entire base's security system began to react.
“You'll all be locked in here,” Lorenzo said as he backed away slowly. “I have other business.”
Milea looked angrily at Lorenzo. “You want to run away now?! After all this?!”
Lorenzo just chuckled. “I'm not a fool, Milea. I know when to back off.”
With one quick step, Lorenzo disappeared amidst the smoke and rubble.
Meanwhile, Kazuto remained focused on Vincent, despite the growing chaos. “Don't think this is over, Vin!”
Vincent didn't answer. He was already moving faster.
With his remaining strength, Vincent kicked Kazuto's knee, making him wobble slightly. Milea took the opportunity to pull Vincent to his feet.
“We have to get out of here, now!” Milea said.
They ran for the exits, but every passage was filled with fire and rubble. There was no way out. What to do?
Outside, the sound of helicopter propellers could be heard coming closer and closer. Milea looks up and sees it, Lorenzo's helicopter.
And in it, Lorenzo himself stood, staring at them with vengeful eyes.
A loudspeaker blared from the helicopter.
“Vin! You won't get away this time!”
A small missile was released from the helicopter, travelling straight towards them. Vincent and Milea could only stare at it for the last few seconds. Before the white explosion enveloped everything.
A few minutes later...
The atmosphere grew tense and heated. The underwater base shook violently after the bomb shook their battle ground. Explosion after explosion shook the steel walls, water began to seep in from the cracks in the ceiling. Emergency sirens wailed, red lights flashed wildly throughout the hallways.
Danger!
In the midst of this destruction, Vincent and Kazuto are still fighting it out. They had to settle their dispute in the past.
“So, you really don't remember what your father did to me back then?” Kazuto reminded Vincent again of that dark past.
Blood dripped from Vincent's temples, his breathing was a little heavy, but he did not back down. Kazuto's fist shot towards his face, Vincent was still able to dodge at the last second, then retaliated with a hard punch to Kazuto's stomach.
“You're still stubborn, Kazuto!” Vincent shouted. “I wasn't involved and my father was forced to do it because of someone else's orders.”
Kazuto smiled despite the blood flowing from the corner of his lips. “And you still think it was Ryuujin-kai?”
“What do you mean?” Vincent widened his eyes.
They came to blows again, their bodies crashing into each other, shattering the consoles and panels around them. Electric sparks exploded from the broken cables. They were still focused on defending themselves.
Inside the helicopter, Lorenzo quietly stepped back. He would let Vincent and Kazuto fight freely.
The cunning man wiped the blood from his cheek, pressing a button on the digital bracelet on his wrist. A small submarine began to activate in the headquarters hangar.
“That's enough fooling around,” Lorenzo muttered. “I don't need to get involved any further.”
Lorenzo watched from the helicopter window with a smirk, leaving Vincent and Kazuto to kill each other.
But someone saw him.
Milea, hidden behind the rubble, clenched her fists. Lorenzo had already escaped.
“Damn it!” cursed Milea while holding back her annoyance. “He shouldn't have escaped this time,” she hissed.
Just as Milea was about to chase after him, the sound of fast footsteps echoed behind her.
“Milea!”
Milea turned her head and her eyes widened. Ryuga, Valeria, Nakamura, came together.
They emerged from another hallway, their faces full of determination. Have reinforcements arrived yet? Milea thought.
“We've come to get you and Vin out,” Nakamura said quickly.
“Thank you, Uncle,” said Milea with an emotional expression. Then, she turned to Valeria, Lorenzo's ex-wife.
“And for hunting down Lorenzo,” Ryuga added in a cold tone.
Milea nodded quickly. “Then, we must move now!”
While in the helicopter, something happened that Lorenzo didn't expect. “Sir, we need to move to the submarine,” one of his men informed him.
“Alright, do it quickly!” Lorenzo ordered.
Lorenzo had almost reached the undersea hangar. The submarine was ready, the doors starting to open.
BIP. BIP. BIP. BIP. BIP
Lorenzo smiled with satisfaction. “It's only a matter of seconds before I disappear from this damn place.”
But then-
DOR!
A bullet slammed into the wall right next to his head. Lorenzo turned around quickly.
Ryuga, Valeria, and Nakamura stood at the end of the hallway, weapons raised as Lorenzo's helicopter descended.
“Where are you going, Lorenzo?” asked Ryuga sharply.
Lorenzo chuckled. “So, you guys finally decided to hunt me down too?”
“Your game is over,” Valeria said coldly. “We'll make sure you can't run away again.”
Lorenzo raised his hands, but the sardonic smile was still etched on his face. “Are you sure this is the right decision?”
Suddenly-
From the ceiling, dozens of automatic drones activated, their weapons glowing red.
“Because I always have a backup plan,” Lorenzo whispered.
DOR! DOR! DOR!
Bullets whizzed in all directions. The hallway turns into a bloody battlefield. Nakamura took cover behind a metal crate, firing his weapon at the drones. Ryuga sprinted, dodging gunfire as he approached Lorenzo.
Lorenzo took the opportunity in the chaos to run to his submarine.
Ryuga saw Lorenzo jump into the submarine and without hesitation, Ryuga jumped right in!
The submarine doors closed, leaving the two of them inside.
Inside, Lorenzo was surprised to see Ryuga standing in front of him.
“You really want to die here with me?” asked Lorenzo, still smiling.
Ryuga raised his knife, his eyes flashing coldly.
“No, I don't. I came to make sure you never get out alive.”
Meanwhile, at the underwater base that was beginning to collapse...
From different places, Milea and Vincent saw Lorenzo's submarine begin to move away, but they could not do anything.
Kazuto, who was still standing despite being injured, stared at the scene with hateful eyes.
“Lorenzo will pay for everything,” Kazuto growled.
Vincent staggered, staring at the flashing monitor screen. “We need to get out of here first.”
Outside the large glass headquarters, something moved in the darkness of the sea.
An unknown undersea warship had just appeared. And the muzzles of their torpedoes began to glow red.Download Novelah App
